Another amazing episode. That’s incredible how can a person that drinks wine can accumulate so many bottles. My biggest investment was a box of Opus One 2018 and it lasted me a week 😂…sorry I’m not a collector 🤦🏻♂️
@@andydevinewine Just do what I did and buy a bunch of 2016 Pichon Baron. Crack one of those open and youll regret it. It's like licking a brick wall. But in 10-15 years it's probably going to be one of the greatest wines Ive had.
Lol, first close up shot and you see an Echezaux.... and it keeps going from there... OMG, I cant imagine the value of this cellar, in the millions obviously, but how many...
I knew if you were to continue with this ideal for episodes you would bump into alot of great cellars but holy crap!!!!! This guy’s wine journey is off the chart. Killer find and great episode.
I always love your videos! I’m surprised to see he had no wines from south Africa. A lot of good wines come from there! Keep the videos Coming and greetings from the Netherlands.
Great video. Incredible cellar. I’ve several red and white Garzon in my collection. Serious quality. And I’m in that camp…..I’ve a buying problem. Not a drinking problem. And I’m a collector like him. Lots of single bottles. To date I’ve had over 350 different grapes and a wine from just about every country. Great video….. thank you.
I was guted when I saw the little bottles of Yquem with all its vintages...so beautiful. A wine from my country that I probably will never get the chance to taste (among many of them) 😭😭😭
Why can’t I live next to people like this? First cellar tour was crazy…now this? Can’t wait to see what’s next. Also, props to Pops for delivering on that gift…not an easy task for someone with a collection like this.
This is incredible collection. But one mistake I have found collectors to make is buying so much wine that they cant drink it before it peaks in age. Just this cellar, say you consume 500 bottles a year, you still have a 10 year inventory unless you throw a lot of parties, etc. Also, I have found sorting your cellar with bottles that are coming of age up front rather than sorted by appellation or varietal, etc gives the collector easier control over his wines and makes it easy to select whats for dinner. But Whitman obviously has an incredible intellect and memory so maybe he has this all figured out!
What an amazing cellar! Bit disappointed that no Canadian wines were mentioned in the collection, especially given the close proximity to BC which produces some outstanding wines. Whitman should venture a couple hours to his north! 😁
The Iranian wine is Molana - I looked it up and just bought a bottle myself. The first Iranian wine since 1979 and certainly the FIRST Iranian wine made using modern methods
Great cellar tour and also very nice too see you mention there are some wines from Slovenia in Whitman's cellar! I am curious to hear which bottles he has🍷? Keep up the content!
Nj is actually a very big state for home wine making. We are acting pressing Friday morning and then picking up another batch of grapes on Saturday. If interested I would love for you guys to try some
I had an '82 La Mission Haut Brion about a month ago now and it was incredible. I kept the bottle and it's sitting next to me right now lol. Looking forward to potentially seeing a video on it in the future.
Far out! Having money would be a nice thing but I don't so I'm off out tomorrow picking grapes 🍇✂️ at Kent UK Gusbourne sparkling - 100 acres of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
I love yall videos! Yall are so cute and I personally love the dynamic of casual drinker, enthusiast and somm. These cellar tours are great too and has me salivating. My only question is for someone like Whitman and collectors in general ... there's no way he can consume this many bottles before he dies and lots of bottles will likely go bad. So that would be a question I have for these massive wine collectors and cellars. Why have this many bottles if you can't consume it and it will go bad? Thanks!
That's a really good question. I'm probably going to fit the same description. I would say three things: a.) We don't know when we're going to die so it's hard to time it to the last bottle - lol b.) We don't always know what bottle we want when, so it's really nice to have a wide variety c.) There's an element of collecting that's simply that - folks who collect stamps don't necessarily plan on licking the stamps just because they got it. I don't think Whitman plans on drinking all of his '79 wines.
If anyone is interested, there is a documentary regarding the wine from Armenia called SOMM: Cup of Salvation. It's really fascinating. If you ever need a stand-in for your amazing Somm Stacey, let me know ;)
Please come visit us in France and our 100 bottles wine fridge. The 82 La Mission Haut-Brion will be fully accepted 😎 Amazing wine cellar, great tour, and video!👌
Whitman is such a homie for having Garzon Tannat. I wonder what he thinks of the high end White Stones from Catena Zapata. I work in the wine industry in Virginia and we grow quite a bit of tannat. If you guys are ever in the DC area shoot me a DM!
I have the 1987 VCC but ullage is not so great at about upper shoulder. I can send a pic if someone gives me an email address. I have the 85 and 88 for that decade but I guess you already have them as well.
A Champagne cork is made of three pieces glued together. We don't want the wine touching that cork. The pressure in the bottle also keeps a really tight seal. That pressure is why we like to chill the bubbly bottle before opening it but still like to throw a towel over the process in case of eruption. We also like our Champagne chilled. If you put a bottle of Champagne in your freezer to chill it faster, you risk forgetting it and the bottle will explode. I would not keep a bottle of Champagne in my refrigerator for more than a week as it seems like some of the bubbles have disappeared.
a missed opportunity by the collector to open a nice bottle of wine, which would have given the video an extra touch. he was probably afraid that he would have to miss out on a vintage
We had Horse Power and Quilceda Creek (did not make the cut)- both of which were excellent wines. The '82 needed to be put away and rest for a while after a long flight and drive...
I felt ep. 2 conversations were a bit more in depth and meaningful. But with such huge collections would be interesting to go more in depth and maybe opening a few more bottles? I feel like this guy was ready to explode with stories and information, or he came off snobby, or maybe simply too overwhelming for 17 minutes. Can't decide which.
While I admire the passion and love for wine, it still makes me sad to see all these fantastic bottles just being hoarded up, many without the intention of drinking them as he mentions himself. It's a big part of the problem with the pricing on wine today and availability, all to end up in one persons mega cellar and for the drinkers to miss out or have to shell out a large amount to try some of the revered bottles that have become scarce.
You own 5,250 bottles. Wildly assuming the average price per bottle of $1,150 x 5,250 = $6,037,500 wine equity in your house… I hope you have guns all over the house and insure the wines 😂
Big thanks to Whitman for letting us tour his cellar. Really enjoying these private cellars.

Better to have loved and lost…. Than to have never loved (an opus one)
@@Yeoldelole true that 👌🏼

Thanks for taking us on a tour of another fantastic cellar.
Cellars like this are so fun, you can see the wine nerd come out in the owner, and the adventure they like to experience through tasting it all.
Loved the B-roll of the guys geeking out at the end.. that's definitely what we wine lovers do 💀💀💀😭💀
100% geeks/nerds at work.....
That burn at 2:01 completely blindsided me, paired perfectly with the warm background music and welcoming intro. Love it 😂

Love this series. Glad google recommended your channel to me.
Damn he has each of the 2015 romanee conti vineyards, what an ultimate flex.
Amazing collection! Library of world wines. If Brains from Thunderbirds had a wine collection this is it. Whitman has it well organized.

Fantastic video. That is a long trip for you two (and your viewers appreciate it.) Also, your gift to Whitman of the '82 LMHB was very nice!

Absolutely true, which is why some collectors choose to sell some of their wines. I sold 500 bottles last year because of what you point out.
@@OurPourDecisionsperfect time to start a YT channel focused on drinking wine!

I really love the honesty in your videos. Take it as a compliment from a Dane. I'm already looking forward to your next video! 😊
Finally another video!!!! Very impressive. I like all types of videos you guys do. While I have less than 300 bottles, mine is “broad” as well
