I suppose it says something about what I'm used to receiving in my life- but just imagining a situation where someone actually respected me and was being kind- listening to this made me cry. I can't really imagine this situation happening.
That is what actually happened at my work/job.
A new guy flirted with me, kept showing up wherever I was, he was coming on very strong. Once I decided I liked him, I made it very clear I liked him back. THEN once I did that, he disappeared-for weeks. I got the strong feeling he was avoiding me on purpose. And I thought it was so strange, he was coming on all strong UNTIL I showed him I liked him too. I also noticed he NEVER came to any in office free lunches and fun activities though his boss and whole department always comes to them. Long story short, because I had an experience with another guy like this years ago, I believe this new guy has Avoidant Attachment Disorder.
Once I came to this conclusion, I was like, ‘nope, I am out, I am not letting him near me’ I now go out of my way to avoid this new guy so I never see him, even by chance. The one time after this whole situation that I saw him by chance, he spoke to me in a mean voice like I had done him wrong.
I want nothing to do with him.

Why should she choose either? Readers constantly tell this story denigrating one man. In my case, I was not interested in relationship but the reader's tainted guy just dropped in😅 The second guy appeared and I blocked him. It is obvious that a higher power in the story wants a relationship but she is not accepting some one "chosen" for her. Boring.
