  • Here's what we did to install a grey water pump for the kitchen. Our new ground floor kitchen is 2 metres below the sewage line. We needed to pump all grey water 2 metres up to reach the sewage pipe - this shows you the grey water pump we chose, the pipework we ran (spolier alert...it wasn't straight) and how the grey water pump works for our kitchen. It could equally be used for a shower or bath but not a toilet.
This is part of our house renovation in France series where we are converting our bare breeze block ground floor (Series 1) and then remodelling the first floor (Series 2) all in the sunny south of France.

❤ French House ground-floor Renovation start to finish: • French house renovatio...
We’re a family living in France who needed more space ! To give our three children their own bedrooms we decided to renovate an unused part of the house ourselves. Then we have to re-model everywhere else. We didn’t plan to do it that way, but the costs to pay people to do it were more than we could afford. We did everything from cutting new openings, installing the lintels, the floor and walls, tackling French plumbing, installing a kitchen, a downstairs cloakroom with toilet, installing the windows...pretty much everything. With no experience.
This channel documents our journey and learnings.

Hi! Wonderful explanation video. I have a Sanivite 3 and find it works well in terms of power from our kitchen sink. However over only 6 months a smell has come from what I imagine is organic material (don’t think it is sewer gas). Do you have any tips for cleaning it out without damagin the pump. Where I am in Germany the plumber are very reluctant to come out and give it a clean so soon after installation. Our neighbours upstairs don’t enjoy it too much when warm water activates the smell :( cheers

We still haven't cleaned ours out as yet, although i'm aware we probably should. I'd say it's an annual task. Do you know if you have an anti-return valve in the pipework? If not, that could be the cause of the smell. Regarding cleaning it, our plan is to disconnect everything & take it outside. Taking the lid off is straightforward. Then i'd clean out possibly with rubber gloves if there is a lot of detritus, and / or rinse it out with a hose or bucket. Not a nice job, but at least it's not a toilet macerator!

So far so good. We don't notice it's there and to date have had no problems 18 months on. We should probable give it an internal clean one day soon.

Did you have to install a vent off the saniflow or does it not require one as it is only for waste from the sink water. Also did it not come in the kit with a non return valve

Hi Steve - no we didn't. There is actually a vent on the unit itself (the oval on the top) and I confirm that it doesn't smell 🙂. The relatively chunky looking outlet has a non-retun valve built in which I didn't realise until I'd already installed our own....so we have 2! Good luck with your installation.
