coolant running through the inlet manifold comes directly from the block, not the radiator, so it heat the manifold on cold days and cools on hot days.
Can you space the manifold away from the head until it fits rather like you showed, with it not fitting? The reason for the extra bit on the exhaust manifold is that it gives two outlets. From that the exhaust itself has two downpipes that converge further down - thus creating a 4:2:1 with efficient port scavenging etc. I think the heated inlet thing is to prevent carb icing, which can be a problem in cold weather
Thanks for the info. I could get some spacers laser cut, but i think the max is 15mm for the laser, so i'd need to double-up. Plus id need to get more spacers for the manifold butterfly bolts, as they hold inlet & outlet
my dad has same car and use it wiuth 1 carbirateur is it worth it or loose power my mechanic says no u dont cause ur carbirateur is biggest?cant find for double carbirateur for air
Hi James where did you get the fitting for the brake booster vacuum from and what’s the size , I’ve bought the booster kit for my spitfire 1500 but it never came with the manifold fitting . I think the water jacket in the inlet manifold is to cool the manifold at normal running temp , it’s going to get hot with an exhaust manifold directly below it . If the midget manifold doesn’t work in got a complete system you can have, two tubular manifold’s into a collector then centre section to back box . I’ve bought a full stainless for mine with twin exit so if you pay postage it’s yours for free . I can take photos to send you .
The manifold was just drilled & tapped to accept the barb for the booster. Im afraid i have no idea what size/spec it is as a friend just had it kicking around in a drawer! Thanks for the offer too. If i get stuck i'll let you know :)
Hi james. you've got the midget manifold coming so you bought one already. i have the same view as you do.... i like one carburetor. i've done this swap using the herald thirteen sixty inlet manifold. that inlet manifold is really good as it has curved inlet runners - not the two hard ninety degree turns. and it will fit with the exhaust manifold you already had..... which is the most efficient exhaust manifold made for a spitfire.... better than most aftermarket headers too. the herald inlet must be chopped on the bottom to remove the water passage - i flap disked mine and she fits like a glove with the fifteen hundred spitfire exhaust manifold that you already have. john kipping - whom i spoke with in new zealand loved this single set up with the new hif carburetor you have... or the SU hs6. it's simpler, and lighter to boot. anyway whichever you decide happy to watch more vids. cheers.

I believe that coolant running through the manifold prevents icing in cold weather....

@@BritSpit might need to be fabricated with welded tubes and flanges so that you can bolt it all up onto the head

@@psy_like_old_daysteo8177 no loss of power with single carb :)

@@BritSpit ok I meant the one in your original manifold not the new one , I’ll after investigate further 😁
Interesting idea, I'm having a nightmare with my dual hs4's.
Tuning twin carbs is a dark art! If it runs well off a single carb it'll be worth the hassle!

Balls... should have just got the herald manifold! Typically there wasnt one available when i was looking :/
Also im guessing you need to fab an adaptor plate to fit the later carb? It's got a flange for a HS2
@@BritSpit--- the herald 13/60 inlet manifold with rounded runners use the zenith stromberg 150 carb.
@@nickyalousakis3851 I've got a herald manifold on the way :)
