- We took a 12.5 hour overnight ferry (Knossos Palace) from Athens/Piraeus to Crete on Minoan Lines and booked a cabin for our ferry journey. We give you a tour inside the ferry and the cabin. Overall we really enjoyed this ferry and we definitely do the journey again. It was such an easy way to travel between Athens/Piraeus and Crete. Our ferry was the Knossos Palace.

That's the best boat of Minoan lines! We travel a lot from the netherlands to Crete by car and boat.

Pireaus is connected to Heraklion and Chania, which are the two major cities of the island. This route stopped in Heraklion first and then went on to Chania, but you can actually go to Chania straight away with another company called Anek if you want to save some time, I think the prices are similar.
Ooo we’ll have to check that out next time! Although we’d love to visit Heraklion too!
Wherever you are, if you find the red-and-white Minoans, the Aneks aren't far away (normally next door!)

Did you book directly with Minoan or use a third party like ferry hopper? Did you have to pay a full cabin price for both or can one person pay for the cabin and the other join? Just want to be sure I am booking this as best as possible! Excited for Crete in a month!
I booked directly and signed up for their Bonus Club prior to booking (that gave us a 20% discount). If I remember correctly, you either book a chair, a bed in a shared cabin, or you book the entire cabin that can accommodate 2 people. So I don't think you'd save anything by buying two different fare classes if you intend to book a whole room anyway. Hope that helps! Enjoy your trip to Crete!

Why is the camera on them most of the time? Should be on the ship, the view, etc.
With expenses on food, drinks and time, isn't flying cheaper?
For us it saved the cost of a night in a hotel ($75-$100) so it made it a much better deal. The food was somewhat expensive but in the future I think we’d just bring our own sandwiches. We’d have to eat either way.

Found this video because we wanted to take the ferry from crete to Athens. Plane is cheaper but we'll go for the experience. Thanks guys, have a great time in your journey.
A flight may cost more but gets you there same day versus ferry trip 'impacting' two days. Plus you're 'captive' on the ferry to their food and alcohol prices. No thanks...
You can bring your own food and alcohol. The overnight ferry doesn't waste you any time because it is overnight. And the price is half of the flight. I have flown and taken the ferry on this route a lot of times and the ferry is definitely better, except if you want to make a same day or 2 day trip
@@Nickdpoulthat depends. For me who I’m traveling back and forth as I’m studying in Heraklion, a single cabin is 76€ with Anek (Minoan doesn’t have student discount so it’s a hundred and something). While by plane with the Aegean Pass 12 flight package it’s 51.3€ for HER-ATH and 71€ for ATH-HER
