My own Sicilian part of my family has Middle Eastern and North African heritage, as well as Neofiti Jewish ancestry from Calabria. I feel proud to have Muslim ancestry in my family, and it has influenced my own Jewish faith in that I also deeply connect the Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews who lived in the Muslim world. Peace and mercy be upon all the Muslims in the world and may HaShem give you all blessings

Generally Italians don't like to talk about it and by extension Europeans in general (it detracts from the eurocentric view of history where Muslims were always "backwards savages"). African Americans will often bring it up but they depict the Moors as being black Africans rather than the tan middle easterns that they were. I'm not trying to make it racial, but basically what I'm trying to say is that people don't like to acknowledge the Muslim aspect of Sicily's history.

    Awesome
I have been to Italy 5 times and Malta once, and Sicily definitely has some Islamic history on the island. I have been to the National Mosque of Rome which is nice. Malta has small towns with Arabic names (Rabat, Mdina, Meiliha) and their numbers are the same as Arabic numbers. But there is one official masjid in Malta in an area called Paola. Obviously there is huge Islamic history in Andalusia in Spain, some Islamic history in Portugal as well as some of the Greek Islands such as Crete. Even Parthenon on Acropolis Hill in Athens was a masjid at one point - sad there is no official masjid in Athens as far as I'm aware

Salam aleykum Ustadh, is it perhaps an idea to have some series on islamic history? The development of the caliphates, spreading of islam (from andalus to china) . Like a structural series, which may be considered by some "dry geeky material", of events and developments you also discussed on some of the library chats (on the ghaznawids and nizam-ul mulk), and on the Umayyads in the sahaba series. I think you'd be one of the few qualified persons to teach this, and you have a great ability to convey this in an interesting way as well. BaarakAllahu feek.

"Muslims started fighting amongst themselves", means the Muslim community had decayed by time and the teaching of Islam was left over. Fighting and killing in another word causing harm to each other is direct opposit to Islam as Islam means securing safety and security to everyone. So when the Muslim community decayed they were expelled from many parts of the land.
Untill today no one is concerned of refreshing the Muslim community as they are unaware of the problem within them but wasting time in singing the past pride and raping on other communities.
In short Allah wants to be proud of helping His followers and wants to claim the victory of Muslims. That's what meant by Alhamdulillah and Allah Akbar. But our people are how far ignorant of the meanings of both single words? Should the really knows it, they never recite the Soorath Fathiha the way the do it now and they never shout saying Allah Akbar the way they shout now.

I have to disagree with you that Sicily was “nothing before Islam”. Sicily had a very old civilization that rivaled the power of classical Greece and Rome before Rome became an empire. Also while Norman Sicily was a beacon of multiculturalism and a sort is protoenlighenment, it would be inaccurate to lay its success solely at the feet of the Muslim community there and most historians accredit the Norman leadership for bringing unity and stability to the island that it hadn’t had before the conquest, when the Sicilian Muslims had been fighting amongst themselves.
