@3:47 if the close up of this tire is the same tire on the Tern in the background of the previous shot, you’ve got the tire installed on the rim/wheel backwards… based on the rotation arrow on the tire in the shot at the time I link to. Just thought you might want to be aware of that. Happy riding!!
Love your videos! I already had my first flat about a month ago. (I've not had but one or two flat tires in my life!) Fortunately there's a bike shop nearby and they fixed it. I'm not riding daily now--so I guess I'll do the checking every ride as you recommend. Thank you!
YO YO, excellent video, you go, girl !! You answered my questions, and you are a great teacher!!!! I checked many bike companies on utube, and you did way better. Thank you so much you so much. Keep them coming !! 😊
Hello Arleigh, outstanding video! I just finished building my E-Bike, and I had a few questions about the tire pressure, which you so eloquently addressed in this video. I was also researching tire pumps, which you also addressed by placing a link in your description area. Well done! I am for sure a new subscriber. See you in the next one.
I got my bike in March never inflated it. Until I got a my first flat the guy told me he could tell. I finally got a pump. I have tried to pump at the gas station but it was really hard to. I do 40-45 I tske the pump with me.
My pump is broken (I really need a new one), so I've not been able to check mine, but I found today with the sudden change in weather my back tyre was really soft, and it would occasionally bottom out. I do prefer to ride mine slightly softer for comfort anyway, but I do try and check the pressures at least once a week. I also tend to get a lot of thorns and stuff around here, so I do also get a lot of flats, usually in the rear tyre.
Schwalbe makes tires that are almost flat proof, but you need to check the air frequently. I suggest you look into those. You must be good at changing flats by now. 😉
I’m a new rider and been trying to find the correct air pressure for my tires, this is probably a stupid question but how is it that a car tire pressure is 32psi but a bike tire is between 40-55 psi ?
Very Interesting. My bike tires say 40-65. I think they were at 65 when I purchased the bike from my local bike shop and when I did a test ride during my bike search. The test ride was all on pavement. After I purchased the bike my rides were mostly on a crushed stone multi use path. I noticed right away how differently my bike handled vs riding on pavement. After about ten days I noticed it handled much better. Then five days later I noticed the tires looked low. I did not know I needed to check them every week. The pressure was down to 35psi. I pumped them up to 55 and found that pressure felt good on the 1/2 mile of pavement I ride on to get to the trail and felt good on the trail as well. After watching your video I am thinking I should consider a higher pressure in the rear tire since the battery is installed as part of the rear cargo rack and my bike is flat foot technology so my weight sits towards the rear vs the center of the bike. I really like your videos. You explain things well so even a novice like me can understand.
Good advice there. Are there any additional air pressure considerations with regard to range? Also same question but for hot/cold temperature extremes.
Tern rims and the stock tires aren't tubeless ready are they? I want to get a cargo ebike, but I do delivery and can't afford a tube change. Tubeless is the best, putting a plug into larger punctures is so fast. Adding sealant after many small punctures is easier than a tube change as well. Have you looked into tubeless? Or by chance am I wrong about the stock tires, and they are actually tubeless ready?
I haven't seen any tires rated for cargo bike weight that can also be tubeless. For bikes for business clients, we use Tannus tire inserts and slime in the tubes.
i have the ChaoYang 26inch x 4" that came with my Vtuvia Gemini 26inch Ebike. These one's state 20PSI / 1.4bar max. Yet the Store where i bought my Ebike from says i must pump it up to 2bar or 2.1bar. I'm bit worried and asking others that have similar tires or experience.
If the weight of an electric bike is approx 6-10kg heavier than a similar non-electric bike why is it such a big deal when compared to the weight of the riders of bikes which can vary by 30kg or more.
Thanks you did great ,do advice i ride Monday Wednesday and Friday hight 5.11 wait 103 kg my tyres needed to be replaced within two or three month size 2.2 .26
Thanks a lot for these tips Arleigh. Any recommendations on when to check the air pressure: before a ride (before leaving, "cold" tyres) or at the end of the day when reaching home ("hot" tyres)? I know the air pressure in a car tyre is different before leaving and after riding for 30km for example. Many thanks :-)
Interesting question!! I don't think normal city bike tires will ever get heated up like a car. I personally check them before a ride. If you check them after you ride. If you check after you ride, they may lose air before your next ride.
Great tips! How should my tire pressure change based on cold or hot weather? When it’s cold it will be lower already should I shoot for 35 in a 30-55 range so more tire is in contact with the pavement on my cargo bike? When it’s hot should I shoot for 45 and below or ride a bit higher?
Like you wish I k ew Does my bike I’m already with air in the tires and dumb question but I get up in the box kind of have a cast on my arm and I disable foot so if you know
Ok, but how do you verify PSI/BAR? I Commute daily and my manual cargo bike is my grocery getter, I typically carry tire repair items and top up air monthly. But I just use the compressor at my local gas station in Europe. Not really exact.
On my ebike it's 40lbs. max...I usually put 40...but notice it rides hard on curbs when I jump them at slow speeds. What is a better range of air pressure? I do have dual suspension but can't adjust it. Any thoughts?
@@BikeShopGirl My ebike is a folding Voyager Pro Radius eBike with 16" wheels. I ride on mostly paved roads, sidewalks, some grass too...use my ebike for my work commute, but like to use for future bike trails.
Air pressure is a compromise. If you’re bottoming out you need a higher pressure. I would run 45 on the tire that bottoms out even though it’s rated to 40. If that doesn’t solve it find a higher rated and/or possibly wider tire.
Good advice video. Last weekend, I put down my deposit to preorder a very expensive GSD R14, and has started a detailed investigation on what accessories to purchase. (Did I mention this was very EXPENSIVE!! GSD Cargo Bike) So one of the first items I need to purchase is something to secure this GSD, so what kind of locks do you recommend, and how many??? Planned use for this is for Shopping, as well as a Silicon Valley Bike commute. I've been looking at those Abus bike locks with the ability to have multiple devices opened by the same key, but the devices have to be in the same key/security class to be compatible to use the same key (???) so what does the GSD come with, and what class of Abus locking devices would be compatible ???
Have you looked at the various reviews on this channel? I did one for my favorite lock. The frame lock and battery cores are not part of the key alike system. I personally don’t mind but if you do then you’ll need new lock cores and frame lock to match your preferred lock.
@@BikeShopGirl i am carrying a 3 pound camera in my front basket and sometimes 1 litre of coffee and often my rain suit just in case, i figure about 4 pounds in total. So maybe try inflating my tires 5 pounds more than the back?
The weight is split between the two wheels so the tires technically should handle 260. Glad you got a pump and are using it often! What type of biking do you do mostly?

Hi there Arleigh... Thankyou so much for being such an information station !! Lol.. xx
You are so welcome!
I’m a new rider and been trying to find the correct air pressure for my tires, this is probably a stupid question but how is it that a car tire pressure is 32psi but a bike tire is between 40-55 psi ?
Volume in a car tire is much higher
some bike tires can go up to 120 psi for skinny tires. My road bike I set at 100 psi.
Question how about PSI for my mountain bike when I’m taking my babies for a ride in the attachable bike trailer.
On road? I would do max
I'm sure that "When you're going through the Terns (slight pause and subtle smile)" and "when you're Terning" were totally pun unintended :D
Thank you for the information. I'm off to check out your other videos.

Range of your battery? The less rolling the resistance the better!
For hot/cold, not that I know of unless it means cold = snow/wet.

What tyre pressure would I need for my carrera crosscity e bike please 🙏
I don't have those bikes locally. It should be on the side of your tires.

26 inch Fat tire ebike inflate at 17 -19.5 psi in rear, and 16-18 psi in front
15 psi for loose dry sand

@@hassanmehmood7904 it is less about size and more about quality. Look at something with flat protection and high mileage rubber

I don’t focus on the temperature and more what the ground is like. Wet/ice = lower. Clean and fast = higher

I don’t recommend the gas station compressor for that reason. They aren’t exact and often are off. A good bike pump is $20-40 with a good gauge.

30 front back 35 !
i ride with a front basket and nothing on the back (no panniers, no kids etc :-) ) should i have higher pressure on the front than the back?
How much are you carrying in your pannier? If it’s not much, I would keep them equal but you could always test!
