In SG land is scarce so there is a need plan ahead. Land is expensive so need to best maximise its developmemt. In MY land is plenty so issue to build malls at a whim. There ia also lack of town planning in MY which hampers connectivity.

And our Malaysia Boleh quality can be seen in the The Exchange TRX where during its first week of operations there was shoddy workmanship of the building ranging from cracked tiles and unfinished ceilings to malfunctioned escalators and elevators. On the second day of its opening, it suffered from a power outage in the morning, persisted for hours before the electricity was back to normal. The mall also had to cordon and close off the central water play area at its outdoor playground to work on the repairs due to it being broken.

saya dulu study di UTM pada tahun 1990an. selalu turun JB dan pusat membeli belah di sekitar pada hujung minggu. Best World masa mula2 buka, memang gempak. tapi selepas setahun tutup kerana krisis ekonomi. JB Waterfront dan Skudai Parade baru2 nak buka masa tu. sedih melihat apa yang terjadi dengan pusat2 membeli belah ini. semoga dapat mencari resolusi terbaik oleh pihak perbadanan Johor Baharu.

We are heading to more empty malls. We old senior Johoreans just don't have the money for a decent 2 meals a day. However, God provide me the very simple things in life. I plant my own sayur Brazil bayam & chilli padi. Good enough for my daily porridge plus the WORD OF God without FAIL & good medical service to which l am forever grateful to the Government. Ameen.
There is this one particular mall in my district called Galaxy mall, which is essentially abandoned by its management team, and it’s put on life support by salons.
I am not saying Singapore never makes mistakes maybe they have done a few. But reading the comments it shows that Singapore thinks and plans ahead in Malaysia things seem to be done out of pride…. They say there are buildings taller than the petronas and yet the 1MDB scandal seems to be a thing of the past that everybody already forgot. I wonder if Jho Low will ever be found and if the culprits would ever go to jail. It seems justice never gets done in Malaysia. The Petronas are not even beautiful buildings. I’ve heard the shape has to do with the 5 pillars of Islam which shows religion must be included in everything but what is never included in anything is common sense. Seriously… I am a westerner by the way and I like Singapore and I like Malaysia but I feel in Malaysia the average citizen is lied constantly and the government is never at fault and never accountable. At least in Singapore the government’s priority is economic growth and bringing foreign investment in order to diversify the economy. Malaysia is like a dog chasing its own tale. If u ask any Malaysians about the government they just let go a big sigh… I’ve also heard that in Malaysia unless you are a Muslim don’t even try to get into politics because u will never raise above a certain level. The top people will always sgd forever be Muslims. Can they put religion aside and bring in common sense, decency, honesty and accountability to the average common Malaysian citizen? Malaysians don’t even need to look to Europe to see a good government just look across de causeway to Singapore.
The glut of retail space is not only prevalent in JB. It is the case in most cities and major towns in the country. Some hotels (the small and medium ones) are also "permanently closed". Mint Hotel, Hotel Malaya, Hotel Mandarin Pacific, etc in KL are just some examples. The ills of capitalism?? 🤔
Now all the functional malls in JB already very nice and doing quite well, dont build more, risky. Just focus on current ones and make them work well, this way everyone happy. I stayed in JB for 15 years. Great food but terrible traffic and a lot of abandoned buildings.

I am a westerner by the way and I like Singapore and I like Malaysia but I feel in Malaysia the average citizen is lied constantly and the government is never at fault and never accountable.
At least in Singapore the government’s priority is economic growth and bringing foreign investment in order to diversify the economy. Malaysia is like a dog chasing its own tale. If u ask any Malaysians about the government they just let go a big sigh… I’ve also heard that in Malaysia unless you are a Muslim don’t even try to get into politics because u will never raise above a certain level. The top people will always sgd forever be Muslims. Can they put religion aside and bring in common sense, decency, honesty and accountability to the average common Malaysian citizen? Malaysians don’t even need to look to Europe to see a good government just look across de causeway to Singapore.

The glut of retail space is not only prevalent in JB. It is the case in most cities and major towns in the country. Some hotels (the small and medium ones) are also "permanently closed". Mint Hotel, Hotel Malaya, Hotel Mandarin Pacific, etc in KL are just some examples.
