short clip of the joys of facing players using backhand blades, specifically the swift slash and blind spot ashes of war. Both being in my opinion, extremely busted and easy to spam in the current state of the game. Pretty much soiled my PVP experience for the day. Let me know what you think.

hey man, as an avid backhand blade hater as well, here is what ive found are the best ways to deal with them (post swift slash nerf)
literally any AOE spell or AOW that gives you enough hyperarmor to tank the ss or blindspot, AND does enough dmg to make it worth the trade for you. More often than not these guys have 5 total brain cells and just run in thinking that there is no way theyll die because theyre used to just spamming their aow against bad players. I have 2 lvl 200 pvp builds, a strength faith and a pure wizard.
For melee options, flaming strike is EXTERMELEY strong against blind spot, bc if you time it right theyll try to dash through it, get hit by the fire, and then get clobbered by the follow up strike. black flame tornado is also a good option and can potentially one shot if you have high faith. storm assault is good too.
For my wizard, there is one spell ive killed a bunch of backhand blade abusers with- gavel of haima. You can eat a blindspot hit or ss hit if you are in the animation when you do it, and it will always hit as long as you are trading because the aoe goes 360 degrees. If you have high int it should do around half/more than half their hp (at 80 int its hitting anywhere from 800-950 depending on their armor). That new gravity spell that explodes is a good option too. Or just be an annoying wizard and spam something like rancor or star shower

If this is after patch swift slash aint that broken anymore, like its cheese and annoying but i have been seeing SO much worse in arena. You keep perfectly spacing/dodging the swift slash but not punishing right after, or just trade a heavy weapon into it. Before patch just gg tho. Everyone is just spamming single broken weapon arts or spell spam in there
PVP is just more fun elsewhere

There’s no punishing swift slash lmao.
The player can roll out or attack you with his heavy bleed buildup R1 more than likely ending in a bad trade then resuming quickslash which can fire faster than hyper armor can kick in, out-space your attacks with the aow’s insane range and stun to guarantee follow ups.
It’s still gg.
Source: i’ve used it on colossals, the only solution is for the opponent to switch to swift slash.

@@thebigenchilada678 The patch nerfed both damage and AOE its not hard to get out of its hitbox anymore and heavy weapons will always outtrade it now you are speaking nonsense.

@@cehvi3947 no i’m saying that heavy weapons won’t be able to outrade it because the AOW is faster than the time it takes for hyper armor to kick in. The uncharged version of quick slash does as much stagger as the charged version too, if you get hit by the first you’ll have to roll and if you have to roll you can’t trade.

Pvp is fucking dead bro if its not one broken thing its the next.Then right before the dlc drops they literally buff poise when they had it at a good spot with 1.10. Now all i fight is solitude armored/bullgoat walls that dont poise break even from jumping R2s. This games pvp is a fucking joke Im taking a long ass break from this game it has nothing to offer bit frustration. I might come back at the end of the year when they finally start patching this bullshit but tbh the netcode is so bullshit i might not play another from soft game online unless they use dedicated servers cause this host to peer bullshit aint it.

Light roll counter that or fast spell cast. Also timing your medium roll counter that.

This game was never really designed or balanced for pvp. IT's unfortunate because it's such a great game. I kinda wish dedicated arena pvp was a completely separate experience from the base game. Certain ashes of war, spells, movesets and builds just completely break pvp. Yet are perfectly fine in the base game. If they nerf them, now the single player experience is negatively affected...

Just separate the two imo. It's the only way they can actually balance it properly.
