Awesome information ! 👍 I looked up my Carrier (Furnace, Heat Exchanger and HVAC) and they were installed new in 2018 at the same time but the installation company and home seller company never registered any of them so they all say 5 years warranty for parts. Sad but at least I know my warranties are expired. Thankyou to your friend for having that warranty checking app on his site.
Thank you very much for the information! Your videos have helped DIYers such as myself save a lot of money and learn a lot at the same time!! Keep up the great work!
Great advice. My furnace is 30+ years old, so no warranty. When it comes time to replace it, I'm putting the company that installed it 30 years ago on my short list.
Awesome...have a leaking A coil on a Trane air handler installed in 2021. Looked it up just like you said and bam!...there is was. Hopefully the HVAC service tech will confirm Monday and get that part installed asap. Won't hold a charge at this time and it is summer time. Thanks again for the really well explained videos.
Had this as my first HVAC experience in a new home. Our HVAC was two years old, but the coils rusted (Goodmans chinese parts), charged me $1500 for the labor, under warranty!
Yes that is normal. The part is under warranty. But the labor, materials, time, refrigerant, miscellaneous parts and warranty process is not covered under warranty. So yes the part is under warranty but not the work to take care of the warranty part replacement. Usually for most companies the charge in your case the $1500 in this case is to cover the work and very little profit which is why companies don't like warranty as in actual profit very little is there.
I have been in the hvac industry nearly 30yrs and have never seen this occur. I suppose some shady guys might but I wouldn’t say it is common by any means. Parts that are less than $20 are commonly just thrown away instead of processing the warranty. It would cost me far more in time to handle the warranty in the part than to just throw it away
I had a Mitsubishi ductless units with a heat pump installed and the installer said the system had a 12 year warranty. Turned out the warranty was 5 years parts and 7 years labor separate running at the same time so really the max fir any coverage was 7 years. They will mislead and lie to get the job.
There's an actual 12 year warranty if installed by a diamond dealer and registered within 90 days of installation, but there are exceptions. Labor isn't covered at all, so that sounds like the installer's warranty and the 5 years on parts was due to failure to register the warranty.
If someone charges you for a part they got for free from your warranty it’s called fraud. Call the police. If the 500 dollar bill was for labor, then it depends on your warranty. Some warranties cover labor for some work. Some don’t cover any labor. Depends on the company and warranty. Usually the company that installed will keep records on your equipment. Every customer should keep their own records as well. Even if you stay with the same company for life.
Your 10 year parts warranty is only valid if you had a licensed contractor install your system and you have to be able to show that youve been doing annual maintenance every year both on the ac and on the heat side of the system or its void. You have to maintain the ststem with a licensed company 2 times a year. If there's a transfer of title on the home it drops down to 5 years not 10.
i had a squirrel cage motor go out and they wanted like 1500 to replace it. i got the motor for like 125 and replaced it in a couple hours. caveat emptor!
having our furnace replaced next week from an 28 year old 80 % to a brand new 95% single stage 70,000 BTU been quoted 4200 ( Canadian ) 3100 ( US ) for everything ( installation , parts and equipment ) 2 professionals doing it said it will take around 4-6 hours Does this sound right and a good price ? thanks for your videos cheers from Canada
I just bought my house about a year ago. My HVAC service guy says my unit needs a new coil and wants to charge me $2750 for a new one. It looks like the warranty is good for 10 years, from 2017, but he says the warranty only applies to the previous owner of the house. According to what I read on the internet, HVAC warranties transfer to a new owner. Is this guy lying to me so that he can rip me off?
I'm considering install a HVAC myself, does this invalidate manufacturer's warranty? Goodman web site states "No warranty coverage is offered on Goodman brand equipment purchased by consumers over the Internet, including web-based auctions, telephone or other electronic means, unless the unit is installed by a dealer adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local codes, policies, and licensing requirements."
Depends on the individual warranty and which parts. Sometimes they cover labor, sometimes just a bit of it and sometimes nothing. Depends on the equipment and manufacturer.
Hey I completely forgot about this. Thank you for the reminder. Are capacitors warranted for the 5-10 year period also ? I’m watching your video and see that Bryant furnace with a flex exhaust duct pipe. That’s ok to have. I’m thinking of having my 90 plus furnace replaced with 80 % and have exhaust out roof. I can use this flex pipe. Excellent tutorial and Info
What I want to know is do I have to spend $100+ a year to have it "serviced" or the 10-year warranty is void, which is pure BS! I am 65 years old and never had an annual a/c "cleaning" or service nor have I ever had to replace anything more than a startup capacitor, blower motor or just to add a little freon.
My furnace's board went bad under warranty. I called the company that did the install to repair. I was informed that I had to buy a service contract to prove that the furnace had been getting yearly service, to satisfy the warranty. This was on top of the labor charge to repair. Was I ripped off?
Unfortuanately, this is how HVAC companies appear to be operating now. Either you have to have maintenance contract with that company, or they had to have performed the original install. Otherwise, they will charge a "warranty handling fee" which is often hundreds of dollars. Additionally, homeowners often can't file a warranty claim with the manufacturers since they are not a registered dealer for that brand. It does seem a bit of a rip off for homeowners.
My lennox furnace is under extended warranty, and the multi stage blower motor bearings are making bad sounds. The installer will do a warranty replacement, and wants to charge $750-$840 for the service. Feels like i'm about to get screwed. Opinions? Furnace is 9 years old. 10 year warranty
@@garysork5603 Unfortunately, (especially for Lennox) if the reputable service tech is not a registered Lennox dealer, they will not be able to file for the warranty replacement.
Haven't watched yet. Just the title is absolutely real. There is 0 honesty, or self respect with big company HVAC support/warranty. Then... Do Not get me started on interaction with Manufacturer. OK, no gonna' watch... And there you go. I CANNOT go to Lennox and lookup my warranty. Even with my contractor account #. ONLY LennoxPro can login. So, back to calling the HATE Filled contractor, or calling Lennox who are passed HATE Filled. CANNOT input serial number with Lennox. All the other Mfg. allow that, wonder why? Hrmmm. Good thing I still have my paperwork. Without install date cannot know warranty of HVAC unit. p.s. the equipment warranty/ies in my paperwork have NO Dates, just part warranty years per part. I have no idea the minority of HVAC with a soul. Thanks this channel at least is honet.
Question? Are you still under warranty even though nothing is serviced yearly, i read that if you don't get yearly service, your warranty will not exist anymore
Yes still under warranty no matter the maintenance. If you have a HOME warranty, a lot of times they will deny a claim because of lack of maintenance but it would be pretty rare for the manufacturer to deny it. But keep your unit maintained to make sure you don’t get denied! Cheers
Lol. Ok. When I was fixing furnaces this last cold snap in the Midwest, driving on solid ice from call to call all day and night long……I didn’t force anyone to let me fix their equipment. Funny thing is, they all called us.

The game these days is that they don't "charge you for the part" - instead they charge a "warranty handling fee." More legal, but still frustrating.

Manufactures almost never ever pay labor
Depends on the individual warranty and which parts. Sometimes they cover labor, sometimes just a bit of it and sometimes nothing. Depends on the equipment and manufacturer.
