hello, are you using this stove for heating, and how much pellets does it burn for a day?

That sounds a lot like my cat when he is sleeping. He snores like that, and his eyes are half open, but he is asleep.

Hi Andy. Very clever! Really like your design. Did you modify it beyond what you've posted in these vids? I've watched them all and was hoping you'd post one more after having some experience with it's function and efficiency... I'll bet it really puts out the heat!

Do you have to heat up the chimney pipe, first, to get the air flowing right, being that it is positioned lower than the intake?

like your approach, simple and easy.
What about the ceilings, couldn't find what you did in your videos.
Was it necessary and if how did you do it ?

Nice design, very impressed. How often do you need to feed it on an average cold day?

An external piped air source is good so you don't suck cold air in to the area to be heated and dilute the warm

Can you share the dimensions of your stove? What size pipe and couplings are you using. How high is the feed tube? how long is the extension that goes from the feeder tee going inside the barrel. Are you using a 90 degree coupler inside? How long is the Extension for the Heat riser inside. Love your stove because there doesn't seem to be a lot of fabrication involved. Great Stove.

It sounds like you could use more o2 in the burner, or have a separate inlet for secondary burn, you probably get no secondary burn struggling for air too much. Secondary burn is the burning of the rest of the gasses from the initial burn, resulting in complete burn, no/low pollution, no wasted energy..
Be careful with that cheap chimney pipe is not very think, it will burn thru soon, and easily. Get black pipe for wood stoves to use for chimney. I know how cheap that pipe is, it is not what you think, use black pipe, you no need to burn up yourself and place, black stove pipe is thicker. The shiny pipe is thinner to save money on appliances that get much less hot but still need exhaust, it will never burn out when used and installed with proper appliance, but not made for wood pellet stoves, it will burn out like paper when it gets ready to burn out on a wood stove. Could be poisonous if that is galvanized pipe.
Thick (Like 1/4in if you can get it, thicker the better) SS is the best for the burn chambers if the stove is going to be steel, and a nice thick SS exit chimney pipe, like 1/4in. walled coming out of the stove, then on to black pipe in the living area, then on to SS insulated wood burning chimney pipe for your attic space and beyond, all the way to the top, after the insulated SS pipe goes thru the roof the entire extension extending above the roof until you cap it with a rain cap at the very top. You will get exceptional draw keeping it insulated all the way to the tip, and cut down on creosote. Also an incomplete burn will result in premature creosote build up in chimney, fire hazard, especially with those thin chimney pipes. It is a trade off, once you get a good burn and a complete burn, the stove will burn hotter, that is another reason i recommend the black stove pipe, not the appliance pipe, and when going thru an attic use the insulated SS stove pipes made for burning wood, they will cost you though, but they will last you a lifetime, and if you install it good and secure, maintenance it once or more a year(checking to be sure it is clean of creosote, etc...), it will never burn your house up.

Thanks for your insights, Tony. Appreciate sharing your knowledge here as I'm working on a design myself... You mentioned that this build is lacking O2 in the burner. Do you think going with 3" pipe and the same size pellet pot (where the pellets burn) would allow more air to enter around the sides of the burn pot would solve the problem?

Here in Alberta Canada if that stove caused a fire and it's not CSA or UL approved the insurance companies wouldn't cover the damage. A home is no place for experimental stoves. Sheds or detached garages, shop, old cabins maybe but not homes.

    • @andyman31
      @andyman31  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

yea if ur talking about the piece of metal that prevents all the pellets from falling out of the feeder pipe . i call that a " distribution element " , it regulates the pellet to air ratio ... i have a few styles that all perform differently . its a cut and folded piece of metal that creates a V like shape at the bottom of the feed tube . you can either wait for a follow up video ... or il post some pictures for you to look at on my facebook page :)

I test heat exchanger for the flue tube:
      aluminum iron filings etc. (chips)
      5x5mm mesh,
a larger diameter draft tube (flue at + mesh) with apertures (cut to the grinder) on the top, to let out heat.
