Stage and props built by 38(Berlin)Field Squadron Royal Engineers, proud to have been part of it. Worked on the ‘nightshift’, 10pm-6am for two weeks at the deutschlandhalle before it all kicked-off.
I remember this well,as I was one of the torchbearers, when we broke off into two streams I marched past the pipes and drums and slid on horse shit!we were from the 1st battalion Royal Highland Fusiliers (mostly from Glasgow and Ayrshire)the girls were from Glasgow university, halcyon days of youth
I was there 62 Transport & Movement Squadron - RCT. Was the driver for the officer in charge of the Tattoo and had the job of videoing all of the the rehearsals for around a week so they could go over the performances. Brings back some memories.
Thanks for sharing. The Tattoo used to be a crowd-pleaser with my German friends as well as the Allies. I was just talking about the Berlin Military Tattoo I saw with my mother in 1977 or 1978. What a shame more do not appear to have been filmed or rather uploaded to TH-cam or other platform. Nothing like a bit of military band music for doing the vacuum cleaning! 😂🤣😝
Although the picture is so weak, it's sometimes hard to see what's going on(!), the musical quality is fine here, and the lads certainly gave it their all back in 1986. Basically, the Royal Tournament transferred to Berlin, but with a huge massed band of splendid quality and a very cohesive London theme. Another success for the amazing Michael Parker.
