I'd like to meet this man, I am a 24 year old that also suffered from an AVM hemorrhage. I've lost half if my vision, deal with aphasia, and am a bit weaker on one side, but generally I honestly have trouble believing that I am not either dead or worse. This man and I have things in common that very few others do.

@@vladimyrmorris6554 I didn't have an AVM, I had an AVF. Which was located in my neck. It was about the size of a pea, the doctor said. It was surrounded by entangled blood vessels, that was choking off circulation and causing all kinds of stabbing and shocking pain in my left ribcage and kidney area. The vessels were twisted in my neck and around my spine. They went in my left wrist with the catheter to inject the glue up into my neck to "kill" the AVF that was located there. It was REMOVED, and the pain in my left ribcage is gone. That was torture living with each day, 24 hours without relief. Went through that 24 hour pain for about 6 months, and no pain pill could stop it. However, the surgery left me not so well in other areas of my body... I couldn't walk after the procedure. Everything from my waist to the bottom my feet is NUMB. I MEAN EVERYTHING. My doctor said with "time", I should get back to walking normal again, and the numbness should subside. I'm taking physical therapy now.

I feel very fortunate. I've had migraines most of my life and in 2006, an AVM burst in my brain while I was on vacation. My surgeon, too, was at Johns Hopkins and was wonderful. Fortunately, my AVM wasn't so severe and the bleeding stopped within the week. I was able to avoid surgery and spent three months at home while the blood dissipated from my brain.

Yesterday I found out my father has AVM. I am not a med major in college and I don't study anything about medical problems. This is the first time I'm hearing about what AVM is and I plan to learn more about it. As of now my father is in a coma in which he went in after surgery. I'm extremely scared but I came here to hear other's stories so that it would give me hope. I pray that excellent doctors and surgeons know what they're doing and help get my father back to a normal life.

December last Year I got my diagnose. AVM in the brain. Located in the section for movement and talking. The problem about AVM is of course you never know how long the avm will hold. Sadly it seems like your fathers one wasn't safe to "let it be".

As someone who is that current position, I empathize. My boyfriend also was diagnosed with AVM after he temporarily lost half his vision during a migraine. Later we found out he had 6cm AVM located between the occipital and parietal lobe. In the last 4 years, he had 5 surgeries which were 3 embolisations and 2 gamma knife. Throughout the whole journey, the main thing got both of us through it was the mantra," Focus on what is and not the what if." When you talk with your surgeon write an answer to questions or record on your phone with permission. After you are done with the consult go do something that you both enjoy to decompress. When you are both calm state mind discuss the options with your partner then make a decision. From our experience gamma knife was a lot less invasive and had min side effects however it takes up to 2 years to know for sure if the surgery worked. We were told that side effects like seizures, headaches, nausea and so on may occur as late as 4month after the surgery. Embolisation from our experience has been a harder recovery however after 2 months of migraines he was back to normal. He was told on the first consult to stop lifting heavyweight, stop competitive swimming, and keep stresses to min. After his second surgery, he went to see a therapist for a couple of months and started mindful thinking/journaling. Now he is a pro when dealing with stress and communicating his emotions. By listening to him and being there for him will only make your relationship stronger and make the process easier.
