I remember being scared of the water my first time playing Half Life 2 because of the teleportation sequence where you see the ichthyosaur. it would have added some intensity to have the ichthyosaur in the deep water and bullsquids in more shallow water. I never thought about this before but I guess Gabe Newell Is to Half Life what George Lucas is to star wars or I guess now what Disney is to star wars
there are 2 things I remember about these as a Kid: - My best friend who was older and had the game before me , describing these to me : " Imagine a olive green manta-ray with black spots but instead of fins on its sides, it has legs and spits acid" I was spooked. - When you kill them, they sometime cry, which somehow, made me feel bed for killing them.
Honestly, if bullsquids were supposed to jump out of inconspicuous mud heaps without a single hint at the ambush or something like that personally I wouldn't be happy with their existence. If they were supposed to sit behind the corners and wait for you to get in their line of sight like in HL1 then yeah, that was a silly reason to remove them entirely, especially if they can't swim.
Any researcher from a good chunk of BMRF tbh. "This thing spits green stuff. What exactly is that stuff? Let's vacuum a sample up and find out" And I believe Lamarr has went through much more rough stuff, when Kleiner decided to got his hands on her
Technically he meets the bull squids first , in hl1 when u push the cart in he gets teleported to xen and sees the bullsquids first and then later the vortigaunts
When you push the cart and cause the resonade cascade, two vortigaunts teleport in, but then quickly teleport out when they touch the ground, followed by Freeman being teleported to xen and seeing the Bullsquids. Bonus fun fact: if you position the cart and/or yourself in the right spot, you can catch the vortigaunts before they teleport out, and carry to the next map after the cascade is over, so they won't teleport out anymore and you can do some funky stuff, like getting a security guard to that room and getting a gun before ever getting the crow bar getting a chance to skip it entirely, and most importantly, die to then because you forgot you catched them
I remember hearing that the leaked Green Bullsquid variant was a version ment for EP2. In EP2, Bullsquids were ment to make an official appearance, as Aquatic / Land enemies but they were cut late in development.
Bullsquid's colour scheme makes sense in HL1 because it makes them somewhat blend in with the brownish Xen environment. The bright yellow-and-black one also makes sense due to their venomous (and possibly poisonous) nature but they aren't that small to rely on scare tactics as they don't have issue with attacking humans on sight which are larger than them. The one at 6:04 looks like it's trying to blend in with freshwater coastal grass which could've made sense if bullsquids are able to adapt extremely quick.
The gator-like bullsquid would make much sense since gators and crocodiles are very similar to bullsquids in both physique and behavior so considering the fact that portal storms raged in almost every part of earth, it would be really likely that both species will eventually mate and more hybrids will be born (or hatch).
Headcrabs never retaliated against Bullsquids. Other than that, there's Raising the Bar which is an amalgam of all the HL2 beta concepts, enemies, and campaign elements. They've even got a cremator fight. Sadly it's not finished yet, but it's at least alive and well.
"That means the bullsquid is the only cool Half-Life enemy that hasn't reappeared in anything since the first game."
*Weeps aloud in alien grunt fan*
I wanna see Gargantuas again, that would be cool.
-Bullsquid strong
-Semi-Powerful
-Showed up rarely
-Never mentioned again

"the bullsquid hasn't appeared in a game in over 20 years"
>black mesa: *Am I a joke to you?*
If we count mods then everything is always being made
@@PurpleColonel black mesa is not a mod.
@@PurpleColonel yea it's not a mod black mesa is a offical remake to half life 1
@@csonbea1 Its not official.
@@PurpleColonel I agree, while Valve themselves did support Black Mesa, that doesn’t mean it’s official, and even if it was, the appearance of the bullsquid is still the same as it has been, because Black Mesa is a remake of Half Life 1, which doesn’t change the fact that it still only appears in Half Life 1 and it’s expansions
The bullsquid has a bird like behavior. When its standing near food/meat it will lift one of its legs. Thats what birds do when they feel safe.
Half-Life bullsquid aim: 🗑️
Black mesa bullsquid aim 🏹 🎯
missed potential by not calling the video "you know what's BULLSQUID?"

"A big load of Bullsquid" would be a hilarious post-combine swear.
You're telling me a bullquid banged a headcrab and that's how humans were made?
uh
1:48 When you make a small scribble in your friends notebook but then he retaliates by scribbling over an entire page in yours...
6:32 they should have kept them in the boat area. All that toxic water would have kept the player from swimming there anyways
Whenever I saw the ballsquid, the texture of its back reminded me one thing
Hot pockets
I remember being scared of the water my first time playing Half Life 2 because of the teleportation sequence where you see the ichthyosaur. it would have added some intensity to have the ichthyosaur in the deep water and bullsquids in more shallow water. I never thought about this before but I guess Gabe Newell Is to Half Life what George Lucas is to star wars or I guess now what Disney is to star wars
These videos are brilliant, we need more Half-Life content from you; you’ve listed a few things which are pretty new to most people, great job.
"it has its own website" hit me like a ton of bricks, way funnier than it probably should be
"Spit some of the least accurate projectiles"
Me who only played black mesa (the remake): they are accurate as hell
Yeah how they manage to arc that stuff hundreds of feet is a mystery
Blegh. What an inferior experience.
@@toxic_shr00m hahahahahahah
Should’ve played the original then you’d understand lmao
Just play the actual Half-life.
Bull Squid/Slig:"Hi, haheha, 'ere boy, get 'em!"
1:49 rocked his shit😂😭😭
Same thing that happened to Corporal Shephard.
Bullsquids got uncanon'd, can we get some Fs in chat for the poor not canon aliens?
Marc laidlaw states that some of the hl1 enemies (like bullsquids and houndeyes, etc) are in said universe just in diffrent places.
there are 2 things I remember about these as a Kid:
- My best friend who was older and had the game before me , describing these to me : " Imagine a olive green manta-ray with black spots but instead of fins on its sides, it has legs and spits acid" I was spooked.
- When you kill them, they sometime cry, which somehow, made me feel bed for killing them.
6:25 What kind of lobotomized idiots does Valve use for play testing?
Honestly, if bullsquids were supposed to jump out of inconspicuous mud heaps without a single hint at the ambush or something like that personally I wouldn't be happy with their existence. If they were supposed to sit behind the corners and wait for you to get in their line of sight like in HL1 then yeah, that was a silly reason to remove them entirely, especially if they can't swim.
Bullsquids weak spot is their mouths shoot it for the best damage.
I will say this, the blackmesa remake really did do them justice with their spit attacks making them much more of a threat
1:49 The bazooka got me 🤣🤣🤣
1:48 he really did take that personally
Crazy how the bullsquids AI is better than every NPC in Cyberpunk combined
The Alpha Bullsquid's coloration reminds me of the description of the Dilophosaurus in the Jurassic Park novel.
0:09 AHHHHHHHHHH
petition to re add the bullsquid
"least accurate projectiles" have you seen combines at further than 10 meters
Guys dont worry bullsquid is alive i saw it eating a scientist
Who the hell decided to get kinky with a bullsquid 2:59
Any researcher from a good chunk of BMRF tbh.
"This thing spits green stuff. What exactly is that stuff? Let's vacuum a sample up and find out"
And I believe Lamarr has went through much more rough stuff, when Kleiner decided to got his hands on her
5:38 Looks exactly like the spit of the Scrag from Quake 1.
Bullsquids and hound eyes all teleported into the ocean
2:12
Leeches? The Ichthyosaur?
They’re not amphibious, they exclusively live in the water.
What if you could ride one like a Bizarrian from Golden Axe?!
0:47 More like a toad than a leopard.
Technically he meets the bull squids first , in hl1 when u push the cart in he gets teleported to xen and sees the bullsquids first and then later the vortigaunts
Thats Correct
i think you can see the vorts flash in and out before you even teleport
When you push the cart and cause the resonade cascade, two vortigaunts teleport in, but then quickly teleport out when they touch the ground, followed by Freeman being teleported to xen and seeing the Bullsquids.
Bonus fun fact: if you position the cart and/or yourself in the right spot, you can catch the vortigaunts before they teleport out, and carry to the next map after the cascade is over, so they won't teleport out anymore and you can do some funky stuff, like getting a security guard to that room and getting a gun before ever getting the crow bar getting a chance to skip it entirely, and most importantly, die to then because you forgot you catched them
Random fact: The bullsquid texture is most likely originating from a picture of an insect belly.
I remember hearing that the leaked Green Bullsquid variant was a version ment for EP2.
In EP2, Bullsquids were ment to make an official appearance, as Aquatic / Land enemies but they were cut late in development.
The aquatic bs and the elite metrocop where in the game in early 2004
I love tracing your descent into madness across the Cascade series
The leeches are still in Half-Life 2.
Yeah, bullsquid needs more love.
