I watched Alex's special the night it came out, & re-watched it again the next night, then last I watched 'The Old Man and the Pool' again (b/c wanted my neighbor to become a Mike Birbiglia fan so convinced her to watch it by agreeing to watch it w/her), so watching this video of you two together mixing humor with tenderness & grief, & w/appreciation for your 'chosen field,' along w/intermittently 'roasting' one another was such great fun, And also thought-provoking. Thanks very much❣
12 Twelve Times! Very healing for Jews post Oct 7 I grew up secular but in all Jewish neighborhood & public school as the majority in Brooklyn so never had need to assimilate .Great focus on the limits of empathy that has kept Israel , and now Jews worldwide ,from winning .BH If somehow you can find a comedic way to expose Farrakhan islamists too .
This will be an odd suggestion, but Hank Green of the vlogbrothers and Crash Course fame on TH-cam recently filmed a whole comedy routine he developed over the time he had cancer and it should be airing somewhere soon It would be amazing if you had him on the show to talk about how he went about learning standup as he really went through the process (but like a speed run version) starting at local open mic nights in his hometown
I’m a recovering Catholic, Colombian and believe that all we need is the Golden Rule-Treat others the way you want to be treated. Simple. I’m married to a wonderful Reformed Jew who lives for laughter. His humor is usually dark and a mystery to me. I’ve realized that humor is culturally based, and we coincide in laughter about 50% of the time. Your brilliant Just For Us show was the first time that we both laughed 100% of the time. I also cried. The story of your first Xmas moved me profoundly. Your father defending exposing you to Xmas to your school was brilliant and deeply moving and inspiring. I think we need more of these examples of compassion and understanding if we want peace. The person that you said interrupted your show must watch that segment, depicting your mother’s humanity and compassion. Your father accommodating your mother’s mission was also a beautiful moment. We’ve had numerous Jewish couples over for dinner and to watch this show-we can’t get enough of it. Thank you ☺️
Came across a short vid of Alex at the Apollo and heard some of myself. Remember I’d seen him here and had passed but I’m back. (All about me.) I haven’t heard a male speak such a personal language of where I’m recognizing myself in my life right now. Having such deep feelings and so unable to keep them inside my head and being. Only able to release them through an authentic (NeroD) stream of my own language. And loved ones are the ones who stay to listen and if they don’t “get me” and accept who I am, then I have no ill will because I know I’m a lot. I’m a lot for me. I’d be a lot for Mr. Gates. Thank you (both) for being brave to be vulnerable Humans And I’ll take the “ long form” description for myself too.
I love you guys!! My truth and vulnerable parts fuel my standup. I am a dyslexic, Jewish, ER doctor with ADHD and scoliosis. Zetz😁Empathy is everything.
Alex ur set on live at the apollo is the funniest thing I've seen in AGES (am in UK) - also btw Joel Domett , watching his stand-up it seems he is finding himself funnier than everyone else, he seems to be more interested in his reflection than making people laugh lol....
Omg 😂 poor Bert. It requires some holding still lmao😅 Also thank you for the greif talk. I can relate so closely to those feelings and how i handle them. I needed to hear this today fpr the tears and the laughter. Thank you guys ❤
It's so weird to be like, "well, the two choices are - being made fun of behind your back (out of hate), or to your face, which means love!" Like, or neither? Maybe they're both bad, and 'expressing love' by Actually expressing love (aka, Not insulting someone) would be healthier?
Great episode but Mike either needs to stop mumbling and then screaming in laughter (or even screaming!) or the producer needs the work on the levels. I had to change the volume 10x.
@@Leviajohnson I listen watch online at work on my computer. My office door is closed. But I'm also working so maybe I'm just extra sensitive to it (or since it's speakers it's worse).

I love when Mike has guests on where you can tell they’re genuinely good friends. These are the best episodes.
Right,- Alex was a total “lean in” kind of guest.

Just for Us is BRILLIANT. Best thing I've seen in a very long time.
Great show, the first part was very touching

Feeling so called out when Mike is like, “I can’t speak for the TH-cam viewers” lol

😂 That's because Benj is from Philly where we also say "muse-am" and "rum"!

The Bill Gates bit is so funny
❤
Clearly some edits around Alex's mention of Farrakhan. Release the full clip, what did he say!?!
'You're gesticulating..." I've also got an issue with doing this too much.
Mike needs to lay down and rest his back after that one.
Have you looked at Alex's fingers during this interview?
Well now thats the only thing I can look at....

I listened with AirPods and had no such trouble. But maybe with speakers and some background noise that happens?
