The intro jus HIT me like a truck " the endless liquefying and adjusting went you are drawing faces" , for some reason even though the tool exist I barely use it, i just got the revelation that i could be using it instead of redrawing the face every time, I do use the lasso and transform tool sometimes but i can see the liquefying tool be used for different uses cases T_T
I've had one of Nsio's tutorials saved on my drive for YEARS, and every time I look at it the thing I'm immediately hit with is that it feels like I'm looking at an extremely technical blueprint that I don't quite understand, but I can still see the value of it regardless. That person is an art machine.
This video has wholly convinced me to subscribe. You're amazingly well spoken, clear, and informative. I prefer a more realistic approach on my stuff but this is helpful even for me. And just pleasing to watch. Thank you.
1:40 this is the exact order I follow when drawing a head as a beginner artist, and it's so much easier knowing the proportions after the face structure itself since u aren't forced to do another angle you didn't want, unlike doing the eye first then face
Oh dang, didn't realize it was a new vid. Never even seen your channel before. That's some good stuff. About 5 months ago I picked up drawing again with the intent to get actually good at drawing characters and the first method I found that kinda worked for drawing heads was the Loomis Method. But I've been struggling to keep everything in place consistenly. I hit a jackpot sometimes, but there's a lot of doubt on where to put the eyes and the distance between them. I never tried to draw the nose and mouth first, and yeah, it actually makes it easier. Genuinely not a minute after this video I did 2 faces, same method, even ignoring the eyes and brow position steps and voilá, it's all correct, or at least deceivingly enough so. It's such a simple solution that I feel stupid for not trying before lol Thank you! EDIT: Oh, I guess as a side-effect my noses got more pronounced now, but I don't dislike it. And I guess I could sketch them but later erase if I want moe faces. EDIT 2: Did a couple more. And wow. Just. WOW. You have no idea how much time that little tip saved me.
Thank you for breaking down all these different simplifications and styles! It's really helping me a lot with drawing different kinds of faces from imagination. I also really like the little tidbits of humor you interject every now and then. Overall, this video inspired me to try some different things with faces.
This might be a little bit of an excuse to yap Abt my current hyperfixation lmao but I personally love how the artist for project Edens garden draws there eyes, I rlly like how they use eye shapes and how the personality of each charachter is so easily conveyed by just seeing the charachters eyes alone!1!1!
do you have a video on turnarounds? if not , can you make one? I'm struggling with keeping the proportions consistent as well as the shape of the face when not using the turnaround guide lines
i wish someone would go into more detail of how to actually draw the best looking line. i struggly making a natursl looking jaw not because i dont know what it should look like but because it just doesnt come out like i want
There's a lot of deformations and exaggerated proportions for anime/manga and cartoons/caricature. You definitely need to understand the human head and your deformations into anime/manga style will be better. In fact, buy a plastic skull model and keep it by your desk. One example of play with proportions which isn't anatomically correct, but correct for deformed anime/manga style is the placement of the mouth in an angled view. The mouth should not be centered over the center line of the face or it will look strange like the lips are pursed. The mouth especially for a female face should be off center. You will understand what I mean by looking at anime/manga examples. Do every mangaka follow this? No, but the majority do.
something i just HAVE to mention is how araki's eyes are so clearly hooded in a non-asian way. it is SO DIFFICULT to portray eyes in a distinctly european/african way in an anime style. i've been struggling with it for YEARS and theres a particular teardrop shape that begins at the outside corners of the eyelids and tapers in that is so essential to getting right. THE REASON I mention this is because i wanted to draw myself, i have heavily hooded eyes, got em from my dad. but, when i tried to portray it, it looked like i was drawing myself as asian (and i do NOT wanna asian-fish!) because you can accidentally make it look like a double eyelid (or even a monolid if the hood is severe enough that it falls over the eyes). so i LOOOOOVE araki's drawings! because they're inspired by roman and greek sculpture there is a distinct way he draws the puffiness of the eyelid that comes with a (for lack of a better term) western hooded eye that i haven't seen often in drawings but is soooo common! just look at jennifer lawrence, tom cruise, zendaya, forest whitaker, and blake lively!!! and i think the reason it looks very different on non-asian people is simply because an epicanthic fold is not as common. the epicanthic fold makes the hood of the eye start further inwards, whereas many people have hoods without an epicanthic fold, which makes it look like the hood is located primarily on the outer corner of the eye. this is why someone like Jens Byggmark (a swedish man) has been asked many times if he's "wasian." he has an epicanthic fold in combination with hooded eyes. But tom cruise is never asked, because while his eyes are intensely hooded, there is no fold. also, if any of this was worded strangely or is somehow ignorant, absolutely let me know!!!
MY FAVORITE ARTISTS ARE Izumi Todo, Ikuko Itoh, Shigenori Soejima, HIROHIKO ARAKI, than the rest in pieced, AKIRA TORIYAMA, KAZUKI TAKAHASHI, LEIJI MATSUMOTO, AND SHEGERU MIZUKI!
Bruh those Naruto freeze frames aren't fair lol, they get bullied a lot but it's sakuga and those individual frames are meant to add momentum to the fluid animation, not to be seen on their own. Broken faces on regular talking scenes though are something else
I cannot draw anything before the eyes (unless it's chibi, then I draw the head first) or else it's gonna look like bs so I always draw the eyes first but do whatever works 4 yall
"If you want sexy middle age anime uncles you should go for low eyebrows preferably thick with 3 C's and narrow eyes with more depth in the brow region." And then says "So far I've covered most of the basics here but we can and definitely should take things to the next level" 💀
But i dont want to draw in the anime style. I think this style is so spread and when you want to draw something and google tutorial there are so many anime tutorials like anime is not the world.

I don't have money to buy that, things like that is expensive here in Indonesia, so i rely on online 3D stuff, so i can see them on my laptop
You should look at Yoneyama Mai's work. It is really impressive!
