People who do not go to our Panorama Steelband competition in de Savannah. will never understand the all-consuming power those steelpans have on your brains. Leon "Smooth" Edwards was put on this earth to arrange for pan. "Woman on de Bass" is de still to be beaten all-time best pan arrangement ever. I remember jumping up to "de Woman" in the then Holiday Inn car park fetes with my girl in I think, 1980, Thank you Mr Edwards, you are an angel sent to our little T&T to musically bless our nation. I thank you for all your musical and people contribution. God Bless you ...
Amazing. When I listen to All Stars tunes I experience what I can best describe as a "Spiritual Lift Off." I feel as if, like a rocket, my energy / soul / spirit gets ignited and tries to lift beyond the earthly bondage. I then tilt my head upwards to the stars and my eyes seem to just focus skyward as All Stars music launches my essence to the heavens above, I guess, up to the Stars. I love All Stars for that experience. Thank you for every natural or supernatural high.
Still amazing. I'm a Despers fan and recall that Phase II had all but been coronated following their great run to 'final night'. All Stars' jaw-dropping reworking of their previous arrangement here brought a whole new level of strategy to the championship which was to be factored by all comers for as long as Smooth was there. Brilliant and deserved win!
Came from way behind..as u said Boogsie thought he had it on d bag dont ever discount Smooth Edwards..snatched it out Boogsie grasp literally d genius of this man ! All stars to d world 3 wins in 7 years 80 to 86..and in d top 4 otherwise i think
I'm a nycta bus operator, on my lunch break every day I must listen to this song to cheer me up. What a well performed song by Allstars. Sometimes when I listen I will literally jump around and hum the entire piece
Smooth probably will go down as the greatest of dem all. Win loose or draw everything thing this guy touches becomes gold. He is special. God bless him
I was in that audience in front of Grandstand. It was a night everyone thought Despers would have laid big claim for Charlie, after all it was his celebration. "Stars" were playing last and only had an outside shot. As a fan I was a little bit tense and at the beginning Northstand was rocking as usual but as the tune went on the whole Savannah got quiet as we gathered that something special was happening. Half-way through the crowd knew that All Stars was making it a tight race. By the time they started the last two minutes Northstand was jumping in abandon and at the end the whole place exploded! Not a man: musician, pannist, or otherwise: complained. It was a victory well won.
+Daryl Auwai Thank you for your memory, so well written. I have loved this tune since 1990, when I first found it. I also surprised that Despers didn't win, but TT All Stars just blew it up so fine.
The real threat was boogsie with pan rising..all stars came from way of d pace..i think it was like some 20 pts we made up..we surprised d sav that night again showing d genius of d man Leon "Smooth" Edwards and d competence of d band itself on a final night always to be feared regardless of placing heading into d final night.....big band
This song still give me goose bumps and I was very young when this song came out. Love the song, the dedication, and arrangement. I can remember when they named Allstars the winner the whole of town and the hills went crazy, good old days.
Imagine 2022 I'm still coming back to what has not been topped yet. (My opinion) when a piece make your body move on its own, that is pan jumbie! When it catct you you can't escape till the last note release you! Trust me on that! I've seen it happen, people who jus tap and bob, was in full leggo!
