I love VICE. You guys are, believe it or not, the most unbiased source of information I've ever come across. No agenda, no sponsors.. I hope you keep it up, great stuff!
this comment is to the creator of vice!, i watch a lot of youtube n there are many awsome things to watch but i have to say in my opinion vice is the greatest thing on youtube, i say this because no-matter what you talk about or check out its real, what ever people say or do you show it, the vice team goes into situations that are sad,happy,dangerous-you guys will check out anything and that takes courage, i learn somthing new everytime i watch, i say this to all of vice team members THANK YOU!
I'm very impressed with Vice. Every video is unique & interesting. As for Shane, he is the heart of Vice & is the reason I keep watching these videos. He's amiable & pleasant & knows what makes a great video. He pushes interviews right up to the danger zone. I'm amazed at how Vice got started. I'm even more amazed that Shane is still alive. The places he goes to are VERY dangerous to anyone who even looks like an American let alone an American with a film crew.
Brilliant interview.Vice is New,Fresh, uncoruptable, intimate, humane, objective,as close to the Truth as it gets.Pure.Awsome!This is the future of Journalism.Good luck.
Shane Smith, what can I say but: Thank you for so much. You have created one of the great things on You-Tube: OK, the best thing here on U-Tube. SERIOUSLY..
read some Reddit articles...herd gavin was bought out in 2005...he's worth only 5 million...granted this was before vice went online....but Shane is worth 1.2 billion today.....and the other guy is worth 400 million (sorry can't spell his name)..gavin had to sign a NDA..
Dude was Spike Jonze in The Wolf of Wallstreet? And Shane Smith sounds like he's on Xanax all the time haha so cool and chilled out. But you know what, after all he's seen and been thru, a regular day with crazy shit happening would seem boring.
He says we shouldn't watch Vice for news or the truth, and yet it's the best channel for seeing REAL news. I personally prefer people who get in there and just find out what's going on, have their own opinions and report interesting things other than death or celebrities. You can't go and report somewhere without changing what it is you report, same as you can't examine something scientifically without disturbing its natural environment. Truth is in the eye of the viewer or reporter.
Funny how your magazine created those stories, because I met a few"reporters" in a pub, and they wanted to take picture of me and make up some funny story about me just to print something crazy Just a bunch of bull, kind of like what you were talking about in your beginnings. There magazine was....National Enquirer. And that mag. has made some $ over the years.I cant believe you mentioned them: (N.Enquirer). I guess I've followed you since your start here on U-Tube. Loved every minute of it
8:00 "immersionism"… what they're really emulating is Gonzo journalism. They're trying to do what Hunter S Thompson did but using a camera and the internet instead
How can a fully grown adult work for Vice. And that founder Shane Smith is so incredibly cringe. "I lived in Budapest...criminal...arbitrage". You can just feel how that story has been honed over years of house parties.
It simply doesn't happen. When people go to Africa to examine the wild, they leave wheel marks, trash but more importantly they become part of that environment. Likewise animal testing / research, all these things leave their mark. But mainly I'm talking about how the reporting of a situation can have minor or drastic effects, when you make public something it changes people's perceptions of it and can cause change. Like Wikileaks leaks of the corrupt Icelandic bank dealings (read about it)
I wouldn't be surprised if it's legal. Like, maybe Gavin left with a "Don't use my shit or name - ever, or this here paper says I get your ass". If someone bought me out of a media franchise I helped created, I'd get me one of those.
hands down the greatest news/pop culture/ documentary publication ever..... have been a fan of voce since the start
"either have people love you or hate you, but just don't be in-between"
that explains EVERYTHING!
I love VICE. You guys are, believe it or not, the most unbiased source of information I've ever come across. No agenda, no sponsors.. I hope you keep it up, great stuff!
This did not age well

I absolutely LOVE Shane Smith!! I would love to sit and talk to him. I would ask so many questions!! I think he is so REAL!!!

Wow he just pretended Gavin McInnes never existed.
Spike is involved in everything I love
That island was created just so there is an insanely interesting place to interview Shane Smith
This is so many kinds of awesome. It gives me hope.

I think that as part of the deal where he sold his shares, they can't mention Gavin. I may be wrong though.
i'm glad i got to spot Gavin's name in this video despite there being no mention of him at all.
I can't stop laughing at the lavalier attached to his makeshift turban.
is the skinny guy, the actor from "3 Kings"
Yes
Thumbs Up if you love Shane Smith's work!
I still have some of those old issues shown in this video!
WHo's the blurred out guy at 4:00? Gavin Mccinnes?
+Rob Michael Holy shit is that true? I had no idea. I guess Shane's narrative worked on me
how do you know this?
read some Reddit articles...herd gavin was bought out in 2005...he's worth only 5 million...granted this was before vice went online....but Shane is worth 1.2 billion today.....and the other guy is worth 400 million (sorry can't spell his name)..gavin had to sign a NDA..
I have loved vice since the "best of vice" magazine issue someone gave me years ago
Lovin this episode, I was just thinking to myself yesterday, How does Vice start out?
I love a good origin story! Birth of the antihero magazine!!
Arbitrage? This guy was making international grey-market bank moves independently in his early 20's. Talk about living free, that's brilliant.
"We're not the best because we're the best -- we're the best because we're the tallest of the midgets."
Dude was Spike Jonze in The Wolf of Wallstreet?
And Shane Smith sounds like he's on Xanax all the time haha so cool and chilled out. But you know what, after all he's seen and been thru, a regular day with crazy shit happening would seem boring.
Jonze played "Dwayne", a Long Island stockbroker who hires Jordan Belfort early in the film

More videos with shane!
No mention of Gavin McInnes? Must be a legal thing as the blurred his face out in a pic.
You should do a documentary on Shane.
Congrats on your 420th video at the end of this series ;D
i like how spike says "Yemen" lol
I find it interesting that he didn't mention Gavin whatsoever while talking about the startup of Vice.
I was going to say "Hey he looks like the guy in 3 Kings...." looks it up on google "Oh fuck he is the guy in 3 Kings!!!" lol
great stuff
Wait, when Shane asked Spike if he'd heard of Jackass, that was a joke, right?
/woosh
hi vice. can you make a comparison video between ayahuasca and iboga please ?
Funny how your magazine created those stories, because I met a few"reporters" in a pub, and they wanted to take picture of me and make up some funny story about me just to print something crazy Just a bunch of bull, kind of like what you were talking about in your beginnings. You're thinking of Spike Lee bro
7:57 thats the best impression of Ricky i've seen in some time… #TPB
why is 420th video such eventful??
how can that guy be that white rolling around in Yemen shirtless haha
6:07 TARD FIGHT! lol
I don't think they're tripping during these interviews.
but I'm sure they've been smokin pot and swigging whiskey during the drive.
What's the story behind that? Did they fall out?
Blame killary ❤
nice inside job
no, hes canadian. he was living in budapest.
I want to work for Vice
for some reason, i feel like these dudes were high when they did this
1:00 grab that shit!!
You do realize VICE is more than a youtube channel, correct?
POWERFUL Shane Smith
no lawl im just trolling to see if you get pissy and write me trolololo.
I always thought Spike Jonze was black, probably because of Spike Lee...
.
It's cool, now knowing some of Vice's background, finally.
Me and spike jonze have the same chest hair.lol
Damn, I live in Budapest :D
Yep.
"i don't know if you've heard of jackass.."
"no, shane, i haven't. but i was in it."
The dislikes on this are from the people that owned "Voice"
Why don't you tell me about Gavin? since I have no idea about any of it.
i love you vice :)
8:00 "immersionism"… what they're really emulating is Gonzo journalism. They're trying to do what Hunter S Thompson did but using a camera and the internet instead
People in Yemen are hospitable, very friendly. If you are male you wont' have any problem.
They shot heavy metal in baghdad?
The Price of VICE. Show Shane the MONEY!
They started singing along... they tried to be friendly. But it looked for a bit like he was 1. high 2. disrespecting them
why did he leave?
vice is the best!
Why is Spike Jonze in Yemen? He doesn't do news
Yeah MONTREAL!
woooow what a day for my weed guy to be dry
i fucks with vice
How can a fully grown adult work for Vice. And that founder Shane Smith is so incredibly cringe. "I lived in Budapest...criminal...arbitrage". You can just feel how that story has been honed over years of house parties.
This guy is such a fing liar, it's actually kind of hilarious from a certain light-just don't take anything he says seriously
so stupid
These two are too cute. We do not deserve them.
whats the story behind all that?
wow can't believe vice is worth about $1 billion
hes just drunk and stoned like most of us Canadians.
He is. Explains why he's so legit, eh?
Haha. Not just Vice, but Vice City... 6:44

It's a Countrinent
I would nominate Shane Smith for one of the most interesting people in America
I wish they sold vice in my country.
Where the fuck is Jay!? Silent Bob.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's legal. Like, maybe Gavin left with a "Don't use my shit or name - ever, or this here paper says I get your ass". If someone bought me out of a media franchise I helped created, I'd get me one of those.
on the employment map i want to be the only square in the east!
Dat fashion issue. I'm scarred for life.
