I don't think dontai understands that it's not the superhero part thats throwing people off of the movies, it's the "bad movie" part that makes people not wanna watch it.
I totally agree with the bad writing but superheroes have also been a very common theme and we want something new in that aspect. When are we gonna get more spies, aliens, or other rarer themed films yk?
And now, especially after the pandemic, it's kind of a burden to most to get in their car, drive to a theater, sit down n pay for expensive snacks & watch a movie there. People only pulling up for the big sh*t that's extremely hyped up. Alot of these movies should've just dropped on Netflix or some other streaming platofrm
Nah that was funny tho cause he unknowingly did the exact same thing the guy in the video did (cut in a clip from a different movie that has nothing to do with the subject at hand)💀💀💀💀
9:20 Let me explain it better. Movie studios only get 50-60% of the ticket sales from the United States box office and around 40-45% internationally, with China being the lowest at around 25%. Which is why the break even point for movies with large budgets are so high. Also the production budget doesn’t include marketing which is typically half or 3/4th the production budget. Also the bigger split for studios in the US is one of the many reasons why theaters charge so much for concessions
Idk why everyone was confused. The guy literally just stated that for a movie to be profitable, it needs to make 2.5x the movie budget. Black Adam costed 260 million to make and made less that 400 million which is much less than 2.5x of 260 million(needs to be nearly 650 million).
@@wingsoficarus1139they'll fail in the boxoffice but almost every movie is profitable during their lifetime. Especially with licensing rights to streamers and global movie channels. The little mermaid turned a profit off of products before its theatrical run was even over. ZSJL sells so much merchandise to DC fans it's crazy. Theaters are dying but movies have never been more profitable than they are now, especially with how much of the profits the studios are hogging from writers, actors and the crew in general
This is inaccurate. Big movies can negotiate for up to 80% of ticket sales in the first week or two, after that it drops to 50%. Additionally, there's a ceiling on marketing costs. It's extremely rare for them to exceed 100m, even for the biggest movies. The "2.5x" figure is a major overestimate
we just need more silly movies. Not every movie has to be action and death and money and drugs. Sometimes a simple movie like superbad or happy gilmore is all we need

Highkey Dungeons and Dragons was a fire movie, and it’s definitely quality. The writers were going crazy in that room - it is a shame that it flopped in the box office. 😢
I feel like movies are going to scale back to more A24-like pieces. History has done that a couple times and honestly, movies like Everything Everywhere All At Once and Talk To Me have been doing INCREDIBLY WELL at the box office
what happened to movies coming out along with the seasons as well? Like, Scream in March? If they would have released that shit at like the end of September or in October around Holoween, that would have actually sold out theatres.
“Superhero” movies like Joker and The Batman are just different…they actually made a real movie not just some unoriginal thing…that’s why they were and are both hugely successful for DC/WB
The biggest thing though is when I was younger a movie would come out in theatres and be out for 2-3 months and then you would wait like a few more months until it came out on vhs/dvd. I think that since they are waiting so little for it to come to streaming now that people dont care about waiting a month. Dontai actually brought up a really good point, the technology available to people at home now, is much closer to a cinema experience than ever before. High definition surround sound systems are common place, alongside 60-80 inch Ultra HD TV's so the cinema experience can be more easily imitated at home than ever before, which makes it even harder to draw audiences to the cinema. One of the biggest draws of the cinema is the immersive element and that has only lessened over time as the technology has become more easily accessible

The funny thing with Rise of the Beasts is that Hasbro still considers the movie to be a sort of success, because the toy sales were up during that time.

WB has been treating DC like shit for the longest time DC Comics the reason the superhero genre exists is struggling because WB doesn't know how to fully bring the DC Universe to life and it sucks because DC Comics is really good in my opinion they have a better overall universe than Marvel they just get a bad rep because WB doesn't know how to fully showcase the greatness of DC in my opinion Bruce Timm and Paul Dini should've been in charge of the DCEU they could've brought the DCAU to life but instead we got a mediocre universe that wasted everyone's time DC can beat Marvel they just need the right people in charge to do it
