I purchased an E-M10 when it was originally released in 2014. One thing about the OM-D line, people don't realize what the camera can do until they've used one for a while. For the price, even the basic OM-D is packed with useful features. I bought mine originally because of the size and it reminded me of the Canon 35mm camera I used a long time ago. I've since added an E-M1 mark III but still use the E-M10 when I want to go really light.
Same here! I had exactly the same experience as you did. But before the em10, l had an epl5 for underwater photography. After I saw what I could do with it and how customizable that camera is, I didn't hesitate to buy the em10 when it came out.
I tried m43 with em10ii and was impressed, then purchased em5iii, which, with the original grip, offers almost everything as em1ii with some more flexibility with weight. I think only m43 users have so many opportunities with lenses. Gathering an impressive assortment of excellent lenses is still within an affordable domain. To have a comparable set of lenses FF users need to sell their houses.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I only use a crop sensor cameras. Fuji & Panasonic. Last week went to a photography workshop taught by a Panasonic luminary. I misplaced the G9 I intended to use. As a backup I purchased an EMD1 Mii for a very good price with an additional battery. Yeah! Then I found the G9. The EMD1 Mii is very comparable to the G9 that I love. Going to a workshop next month taught by a couple that are Olympus Ambassadors. Will bring the Olympus with me. Have a mix of Olympus & Panasonic lenses. Now I need to figure out how to set the Oly up. Had an EMD-5 and loved the colors produced by that body. Expect at least the same quality of colors. Have no interest in full frame. I am an amateur and the quality of the M43 and APSC images are good enough for me. I appreciate the light weight and small size of my gear. Schlep about with the gear for hours on end and both my back plus shoulders are grateful for both the weight/size benefits. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I just made the switch from Nikon; you just can't beat the small size; excellent lens and image quality. I bought the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and lens used on Ebay. My collection of lens include the 45mm1.8, 12-40mm 2.8 Pro, 40-150mm 2.8 Pro with 1.4x teleconverter, 75mm 1.8 and the awesome 60mm 2.8 Macro lens. You are absolutely right Mega Pixels are overrated and my Nikon D700 12 Mega Pixel did just fine for event and portrait work before I upgraded to the Nikon D850. Cheers!!!
I have the EM 1 Mark 2. It’s half retired because I bought the OM 1 for the upgrade in auto focus for wildlife, but I would never get rid of the EM 1. I recently took it on a trip with the 14-150 lens. It just works as do all Olympus and OM1 cameras. I also still have my EM 5 Mark 2 which is an elegant all metal body camera. The late TH-camr, David Thorpe is an excellent resource.
I have the Em1-mk1, 3 Em1- mk2s and an EM1-x. Sports action photography mostly. The mk2 is fabulous, I bought the 1X recently (was on a cracking special) for the auto focus improvements, but honestly can't tell a difference. The mk2s are our go to cameras, and I have one with a 7Artisans 25mm on it, that is my walk out the door camera, when I am doing photos for myself.
Hi David, I've used full frame, APS-C and Nikon 1 in the past. Like you, I also had a D600 that was very troublesome with oil on the sensor. Eventually that issue led me to get a D800. I sold all of my full frame gear in July 2015... then shot with Nikon 1 for four years. In June 2019 I switched to Olympus M4/3 and bought an E-M1X. Simply the best camera I've ever owned... it easily runs circles around the D800 I used to own. The computational photography technologies in the camera are simply awesome. My wife and I now own a pair of E-M1X bodies, an E-M1 Mark III, two M.Zuiko prime lenses and seven M.Zuiko zoom lenses. We couldn't be happier. I've captured hundreds of thousands of images during the past three and half years with the E-M1X and I'm still surprised with the capability of the camera. Tom
I genuinely can’t believe I didn’t bother to look more closely at m4/3 before now. I guess being a sensor size snob in the past was part of it. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on am EM1 mkii next year🖖
Yeah, I started off with a second hand EM10 MKII for street photography. It's a great camera. I've since added the EM1 MKII for landscape work and several more micro 4/3 lenses. I think it's a brilliant system.
I bought my first Micro Four Thirds camera many years ago and have been a fan ever since. To show you how long ago that was, I started out with an Olympus E-P1. Now I own a nice number of Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds cameras and lenses. All things considered, you’ve got to love how they deliver so much performance with so little size and weight. These are my go-to cameras as they fit my shooting style (and budget) perfectly.
I moved from Canon APS-C to Olympus Micro 4/3. First one was an E-PM2 from a pawn shop, then a used EM10 mk2, a used EM1 Mk1 and I finally bought my first new camera, an EM5 mk3 with my first pro lens attached. I bought the EM5 because I liked the feature set of the EM1, but wanted something a little more compact for traveling. Still have the 10 and the 1. Gave the PM2 to my stepdaughter.
Geez! I just got an Olympus Pen-F, and I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun just walking around and shooting! I dropped crop sensors and full frame, Canon and Noink, 10 years ago, and NEVER looked back! Also have the Oly 300mm f/4 on an EM1 MKii. Plenty of Lumix and Oly glass, and ALL of them perform great!
well here is a 34 years old olympus fan girl from Saudi. had so many om d camera, from the 10 series i had the original. loved the om 5 mark ii very much as well as the pen f as now i got a second one. right now using om d 1 mark iii and very soon the om1. love there compact size as well as the colors. with a bit of help from youtubers like yourself now i can have sharp birds in flight shots. so no issues with C AF as some claims. thanks so much for this nice video. sure you deserve an om1.
Thank you🙏 I’ve had no problems with the C AF for street photography, not exactly fast moving compared to birds in flight, but it’s been great. Thanks for watching and have an awesome day 🖖
From Olympus I had an EM-10 MARK IV, I now use EM-5 MARK III since about two years and I don't feel the need to change for anything else. The main differences over the EM-10 are 20 megapixels instead of 16, better sensor (same as EM-1), phase detect autofocus instead of contrast and weathersealed body. A tiny bit heavier, about just as compact. EM-5 is the pocket version of EM-1. I don't know if it's the best camera, but it's the absolute best for me. The 5 axis stabilisation is a game changer, it really is, and 20 megapixels is indeed more than enough.
I must say I do like the design of the em5 better then the em1 mainly because of its size and lack of a large grip, but I genuinely feel like it could be a system I switch to completely so having that extra card slot to shoot redundancy for client work is something I’d like for piece of mind. Thanks for watching 🖖
I purchased an original E-M1 about seven years ago, and just about carried it everywhere ever since. I had literally worn the paint off every corner on the camera. About two years ago, I began to have shutter issues with it, and given that Olympus was getting rid of its imaging division around the same time, I talked myself into a new 35mm format Canon EOS R. Now, I've used both Canon and Olympus for a long time, so either brand seemed like a good deal to me, and worth the investment. Funny thing was, once the new camera novelty had worn off with the EOS R, I realized that I was really pining for my old Olympus E-M1. I could have purchased another from the used market, or picked up a newer version such as the MkII or MkIII, but one grows attached to a good camera kind of like an old friend. I took the body and sent it to the Olympus repair facility and waited. A couple hundred dollars later, and my E-M1 was back. They had done an absolutely awesome job! Not only did they replace the damaged shutter mechanism, but they replaced the strap lugs, a dial, updated the firmware, and completely cleaned everything. Superb! My well worn old friend was back but it was working like a brand new unit. Now, we get to the point. The EOS R is a very nice and very capable camera, but since getting my Olympus back, the Canon rarely leaves the house. For day to day photography, I simply enjoy using my Olympus more than the Canon. Also, except in rare circumstances where the larger sensor shines (long exposure low light photography being the main one), the images I get from the Olympus are just as good as what I'd get from the Canon. In fact, because the Olympus is so good at "getting out of the way," I think that I often get better images from the older and smaller camera. Beyond all that, I love my stable of Olympus lenses. They are smaller, lighter, and easier to carry than the full-frame alternatives. To outfit my EOS R to the same degree would necessitate spending an awful lot of money! Anyway, I love using m43rds, especially the OM-D E-M1. Honestly, it does the job, and best of all, it's fun to use.
Oh yes, and one more thing. The 16 MP sensor on the E-M1 provides more than enough resolution while failing to overwhelm my computer storage options. In the year or so that I was shooting almost exclusively with the EOS R, that 30MP sensor created images that have really eaten up storage. Over the long haul, fewer megapixels offer a significant savings in space. It's something that really shouldn't be discounted.
Some great shots there David. I changed from Nikon, D7200 and D 500 to an Em1 Mk iii, this was during our first spell of Covid ! Had been looking at Olympus and the Sony A7R3 but at the time the Sony was expensive ! My two Nikons and seven lens sold within two weeks and at that time people were saying Olympus was going under ! (mainly by full frame people) after doing my research eg looking up what Olympus Visionaries were shooting with the gear and how fantastic the images were I was hooked, then a couple of large Camera suppliers here in New Zealand decided to quit Olympus and sold the gear at cost prices so I jumped in. Purchased an Em1 Mk iii with the 12-40 F 2.8 Pro lens, then the 300F4 came up at cost price, the next week was the 40-150 F 2.8 Pro so had my main gera. Since purchased the 60mm Macro, 17 mm F 1.8, 30mm Macro that and the 60mm are fantastic sharp lenses. Back in March I purchased the OM-1 and what a game changer for my bird photography, the Em 1 Mk ii was great but the Om-1 is on another level ! Micro 4 thirds is not dead !! Cheers
Sounds like you got some bargains. This proper look into micro four thirds has been quite eye opening and I can’t wait to see what the em1 mkii is like. Thanks for watching 🖖
Awesome story, as said above, I'm sticking to my Olympus guns! Looking for a good deal on a macro lens. 30mm can be had for around $200 and 60mm around $300. I guess for insects in natural environments the latter should be better not to scare them off, would you agree as owner of both?
@@buggersofoz Yes but they both have there place, I find the 30mm a fantastic walkaround lens I also use the Raynox 250 with a 46-43 adapter ring and one of my home made diffusers. perfect combo for Macro !
Some of my favourite photos from you are right here in this video! Awesome photography and another fantastic video! Absolutely love the colours in these shots David
Love M4/3rds. Shooting raw and using Lightroom's new 'DenoiseAI' feature in the detail module, really cleans up the image if you use higher isos. I've got Pen E-P5, Pen-F and E-M5ii cameras. The one I use most is the E-M5ii, weather sealed and built really well, highly recommend it.
I’ve had almost a year in the system now and have absolutely no regrets. The em1 mark ii is an absolute beast of a camera that has dealt with everything I’ve thrown at it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do 🖖
I shot so many weddings on the Olympus OMD E-M5. I got the battery grid for it and its even a better camera. I really wish they would bring back the battery grid for the E-M5 newer models.
i have Em10m.2 and just like yours, the screen were "broken"....got very good price, and i love it since then. The IQ are great, the EVF works amazing, and the AF combine with some olympus prime lens, reallly fast...even in some low light situation...
Wow! This video has blown up both in views and comments! Great to see that mate and conversion the growth of the channel...3.51K!!! Well deserved my friend! Have a great weekend!
Yeah not at all what I expected mate, but very happy with the result. The best part has been the comments too. Absolutely love the positivity from this one. Hope you’re well mate, have a good one🖖
I recently bought the e-m10 mk III. I've had the e-m1 mk II and Panasonic G9 in the past but I sold them but still wanted a small m43 camera. I also think the e-m10 series are the best looking Olympus cameras. I have the Canon 5d MK II and Fuji X-T2 which give me something different but I'd say 70% of the time I use my e-m10 mk III.
Nicely done. I used to keep a E-M10 II in a small hard case with a spare battery and the three Sigma art primes behind my car seat. For walk about town street photos I liked carrying the E-M10 with the Sigma 19mm or 30mm. For low light photos there is a scene mode that you might want to try out if you haven't already. I think its called hand held starlight. It will take a series of high ISO photos, align and bled them together in camera to give you a photo with less noise than if you took a single photo at the same ISO. I used to shoot events, weddings, family and senior portraits with Olympus 4/3 gear. 4/3 glass can be found inexpensive now these days. The E-M1 II will be able auto focus 4/3 glass and some of the best glass I've ever used are Olympus HG and SHG lenses. My favorite OM-D camera is the E-M5 II, for me the best ergonomics of any camera I've had. For work I currently use the E-M1 II as my A cam and the E-M10 III as my B cam. I do a mix of video and photos so the 4K video and improved IBIS on the E-M10 III made it worth the upgrade. I usually keep the 45mm F1.8 on the E-M10 III for quick photos while I'm using the 12-40mm F2.8 on the E-M1 II for video. Be sure to check the firmware on the E-M1 II when you get it. After firmware 3.0 its almost a different camera. You get a lot of focus related improvements, I think reduction of noise at higher ISOs, some video improvements and a bunch of other things. If you think IBIS is awesome on the E-M10 II just wait until you get the E-M1 II. Battery life on the E-M1 II is the best I've ever used on a mirrorless camera. I've covered 8 hour events on just two batteries without draining the second battery.
Wow, thanks very much for this comment, Adam, there’s some great info here. I hadn’t realised that the scene modes were so useful, I expected them to be gimmicky like they are in other cameras. I’ll be sure to take a look at the 4/3 glass once I get the EM1 mkii. Really appreciate the info here, mate. Thanks for watching 🖖
I use this camera for two years already: I bought it almost new (it had approx 50 test shots and was waiting for its time in a box) and I am still extremely happy. The sizing (and I have huge hands, never been a problem!), the look, the controls: I just love it. I am also super happy with the results. While I do have second thoughts, like "well, shouldn't I have invested in a FF, or at least the newer sensor?" I was never really regreting the decision. The camera with a kit lens or prime is a bargain and a great step into photography, which in the last two years really became my passion.
I have an OMD EM5 mk1 I’ve used since 2014. I shoot Nikon full frame and APSC as well. I’ve used the olympus paired with the 17mm 1.8 for street photography and have been able to get shots I never would be able to with a full frame kit. It’s so tiny no one notices me and the image quality for that original camera is still fantastic. Newer ones are even better and you can pick up used bodies for next to nothing. I’m looking eventually to get an EM 1 mkII.
I have the EM1.2. It's especially good for procapture (buffering shots with a half pressed shutter until the "right" moment). This could include shots of birds taking flight or something you are waiting to capture in the street. Burst photos are also very good for portraits of kids or a group to get the right facial expression.
I have a bunch of cameras and always unconsciously, pull out the EM10-ii for its easy fit and use, despite all the little quirky issues with the screen and EVF switch. Like a wife, without whom you are not able to live despite all her aggravations.. There is no comparable feeling than holding this little baby in your hand; even the kit 14-42 mounted, it is a versatile performer; till you hear the shutter sound of the EM-5-ii!!!. Pefect. Carry a spare battery always... Cheers!
I recently had the same problem with my screen on my now 7 year old E-M10 II, and was able to fix it for a total of 10 € for a replacement screen flex-cable. The repair actually was really straightforward, it toon a while but now I have a fully functioning screen again :)
Had to watch this after you persuaded me to get this camera over the epl8. Nice to see the kit lens producing what I consider to be more than adequate results. Sure I’ll probably buy more glass once I’ve decided what direction this new aspect of photography takes me. It’s exciting enough at the moment to think I’m going to have proper camera experience over merely tapping a phone screen.
Came here from the GF2 video. These old MFTs are great. Like I said in your other video, I sold my GX85 and GX9 simply because my trusty old GF1 gets the job done. Yes, I am aware that there are waaaaay more advantages with the newer cameras, especially if you put in the price factor and IBIS for the (now cheaper) GX85 etc. But there's something about the satisfaction that you get from older cameras, and still have all the capabilities you need to 'out-perform' newer ones. I agree with you here - after my years of GAS through covid, and after I actually started to print my photos, I learned that the camera doesn't matter. I printed photos taken with an old 8MP point-n-shoot and couldn't tell the difference. The most important was that there was a photo in the first place, and of course the person who took it.
I’m a fairly simple guy in terms of what I need to make a picture and so I don’t rule out any camera. There something to be said for having all the fluff features that make things easier, but those features aren’t necessary to get great images. I recently added an Olympus Pen mini to the collection and it’s absolutely fantastic. Thanks for watching 🖖
I have E-M10ii just exactly like yours, the screen goin off when it flip. I change the flexible cable of the screen and voila it’s like new camera :) it’s fantastic and fantastic little camera..got couple lenses and I’m happy with it…cheers from Indonesia
Buy the EM-1- 2 you wont be disappointed. They are cheap and are a huge step up on the Mk 1. The one is a good camera not bagging it. But the 2 is so much better. Especially with the free upload completed. Happy New Year!
Yeah the em 1 mk ii is where I’m headed. Based on what I’ve read about it, it will become my main camera for making these videos and it’ll definitely replace my need for apsc. Thanks for watching, Wayne. Happy new year 🖖
I've been shooting Micro Four Thirds since the Olympus E-PL2. Currently, I have an E-M1 Mk1 and an E-M1X, which I absolutely love. However, most recently I bought a barely used Pen-F and am having a ball with this camera -- it may very well steal my heart. The other day I loaded up a 'Fanny Pack' style camera bag with my Pen-F with the Oly 25mm f/1.8, the Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ, the Pany Lumix 45-175mm f/4-5.6, and the Olympus 9mm f/8 Body Cap Fisheye lens, and four spare batteries. That gives me a 35mm equivalent focal range of 18mm to 350mm, with macro and fisheye capabilities in a kit that weighs 2.5 lbs!
I love the M43 system. I have an EM1 Mark III with Pro lenes. I sell my work on-line and at galleries and have never had a buyer say "oh, I'm not buying your work because it wasn't shot with a FF camera"
Got for it. Olympus is quite amazing. You might really enjoy the M5. I use the PEN-F along size the Nikon D810. The PEN-F is used about 90% of the time. I'm shocked at how good Olympus is especially with really good glass. And the "poor" ISO performance is not a factor when you can shoot perfectly sharp images hand held at 1/4sec. It's rediculous. Love that system.
One of the unsung features of all Olympus digital DSLRs and mirrorless is the SSWF sensor cleaning system - it works. In 15 years since my E-1 I have once had a dust spot - so switched camera off/on - and it was gone. Look at all the advertising for sensor cleaning kits and software to remove them! Olympus should mention that when selling because the others brands appear to be failures in this area.
I love the em-1 with 40-150mm great for indoor event shooting I Also have 20mm 1.4! i don't even use a flash my iso about 5000 . i love my shots and i print 13 x 19 prints
I had a an EM-1 MkII and it's phenomenal! I used it mainly for wildlife, so I used the 40-150 2.8 and the 60 2.8 macro quite a bit (kept the glass, but had to sell the camera because of a short term financial situation). I have a G9 now, but might get another Mk II or OM-1 so I can have one for low light birding and the other for extra reach (I also have the Panasonic 100-400). You can't go wrong.
I only have M4/3 kit, since being an amateur photographer I don't see the need to go full-frame with massive lenses. My collection of M4/3 cameras started with a Panasonic DMC-GF7 with two lenses, a 12-32 pancake (awesome little lens) and a 35-100 zoom. Since then I branched out to the GX and G series "prosumer" bodies, and currently use a G80 (G85 in the US) as my main camera. I also have a gaggle of quirky vintage lenses including a number of Helios 44 models and a load of other interesting glass, all as cheap as possible. Needless to say, I'm having the time of my life thanks to the inherent compact nature of all my M4/3 bodies, and I fully agree that 16 megapixels is in reality more than enough.
As someone who’s been in the game since around 2009 I can honestly say you don’t need FF for professional work though I do still prefer my FF for using with my old manual lenses (Helios 44, CZJ 50mm f2.8 and a whole bunch of others), I just prefer the look. The labels that both manufacturers and “influencers” put on cameras like “entry level” and “pro” are utterly meaningless especially when the features that make a camera “pro” might not even be relevant to your work. The M4/3 system has become my go-to and I’m way happier with it than I ever was with Sony. Thanks for watching 🖖
love it had an EM 1 mkii part ex'd at MPB for EM 1 mkiii , lens wise 12-40 f2.8 pro , 17 & 45 f1.8 , all rounder for hols ect 14-150 & an EM 10 mk ii great light weight carry for this old man :)
I was genuinely surprised when I saw how small the em10 mkii was and how it doesn’t feel like a small camera at all. Compared to my canon 6d, which itself is small in FF terms, it almost looks like a toy and I love it😁
Let me tell you how I got into Olympus. I bought an Olympus E-420 in 2008 purely because I found a fantastic deal for a refurbished one with two kit lenses. Then after a while, I thought an APS-C camera might give me a better image and I sold ally gear and switched to a Pentax K-50. Guess what. I realized that the size matters the most and I don't use the Pentax as much as used to use Olympus. Although the Pentax was an amazing camera. Besides, my images were not better than when I had the little Olympus. After that experience, I sold the Pentax and got an E-M 10, then E-M 10 mark ii, then after a while E-M 10 mark iv, and after that I switched to E-M 5 mark iii mainly because of weather sealing and phase detect auto focus. I believe E-M 5 series are absolutely fantastic cameras. Image quality is definitely more than enough. Although a full frame might be better, but there is no other camera that offers so much for the same price and size. Broad range of lenses, fantastic images stabilizer, great weather sealed body, tiny size, and so many computational photography options that I'm shocked to see that no other manufacturer has implement yet after they have been introduced in Olympus cameras for a decade. I absolutely enjoy my camera and hope to see many many more OM System cameras around.
I've em5-ii for street photografy and i use lumix 12 - 60 mm f3.5-5.6. That is excelent combo. Lumix 12-60 is light (210g) and weather resistent as em5-ii. For treking I use em1-iii with zuiko 12-100f4 and you can do all because it is a macro lense too, it has 45cm of mínimal focus distance. But best thing of olympus, and any youtuber speaks, is the SAT (Technical service assistance).
Oly 1 mk 2 has been wonderful. I am old, began shooting professionally using medium format film. Had a Canon F1, loved it by 35mm was not sharp enough for wedding and portrait work (maybe with Kodachrome 25, yes). Olympus OM 1 and Pentax MX…Olympus was a medical supply company, microscopes! That did it. Been with them ever since. (Mamiya aside) I have the mk2 and Pen f. The prior is water resistant to a fault. The Pen f, not but great fun to use. Fix lenses definitely very good. LUMIX builds Leica versions on micro 4/3 which I would love to explore.
I have the EM1 III. Used to have EM10 II with the same screen fault. For street there’s no useful difference in image between the two. But AF speed, shooting speed, ND filter, stacking, stary night, hand held high res turn it into something different imo. Also have G10 and am from Hull but no one’s perfect.
Yeah the higher end bodies definitely stand out when it comes to bells and whistles. I managed to fix the screen for about £11 and an hour of stress and given how much the price has increased for the EM10 mkii, I think it was worth it. Perfection is a myth and Hull is ace if you don’t look too closely 😂 Have a good one mate 🖖
I bought the same EM-10 ii as a backup camera for my EM-1. The EM-10 works well, but lacks weather sealing so I wouldn't use it as my main camera. Curiously the back screen developed a fault opposite to yours--mine functions only when flat and blacks out if tilted!
Yeah the lack of weather sealing made me a bit nervous when using it in the rain, but it survived the small amount it was exposed to. I’m guessing the fault is down to the ribbon cable or connections on these screens because it seems like a well documented issue. It’s perfectly useable as it is, but I might have a poke around in the em10 mkii when I get myself an em 1. Thanks for watching 🖖
One of my E-M10MkII has the exact same screen issue as yours, there are some sort of ribbon cable issue with the OEM cabling. A new cable is available on E-bay for 10-15 quid, and instructional videos are available on here to fix it. I may or may not do it, possibly using the one that work 100% for GPP and use the "faulty" one with some sort of tele lens, where I am shooting with the viewfinder anyhow. Also worth checking out it, is the pancake kit zooms Lumix 12-32, 14-42 PZ or Oly 14-42 EZ. Those lenses makes the camera reasonable (jacket) pocketable
You’re not the only person to say this about the cable. I’ll get myself one and have a poke around in the new year once I get myself an em1 mkii . That way if I kill the em10 mkii, I won’t cry too much 😂
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Pondering one of the EM1s myself. I have the E-M5 MkI, the EM-10MkII and fancy a EM1, more or less to check size. I am primarily a Lumix shooter, though so my main cameras are from them. I am bloody well charmed by the E-M10 mkII, though.
Yeah it’s surprised me. I’ve used and still own a fair few cameras and it’s rare to get one that I just really enjoy using rather than just using it because it’s best for the job.
It's just a flex cable from LCD to mainboard got broken. I had the same issue with mine EM10 Ii after several years of usage. You can buy new cable on Ali and repair your camera)
I have used an E-M10 II for almost five years. For that size, it's absolutely amazing! Only the TruePic VII processor was that I couldn't understand sometimes at the "color science" thing, but RAW solved those issues (almost always). Now I'm trying an E-M1 II. My copy have quite serious AF issues (compare to the E-M10 II), but the TruePic VIII engine makes much more useable jpeg-s. And, I'm absolutely like the much more speedy e-shutter too (city trams became catchable in e-mode without noticeable rolling-shutter effect - if the camera focuses well 🙁).
Thanks very much. I’ve been on Sony ff and apsc for almost 3 years after switching from Nikon, but I can honestly say that the little Olympus is way more fun to use.
A few years ago I wanted to get something lighter on the shoulder than my DSLR. Something mirrorless. Fuji would have been nice or Sony APS-C. But the best combo of quality and value was clearly Olympus. I settled on an EM5, together with three "cheap" lenses-Lumix 25mm and 12-32, and Oly 30mm macro. Couldn't be happier. I'm especially thrilled to have a first-rate neg scanner in the form of the EM5 and 30 macro.
I have EM5 mk2, EM1 mk2, and EM10 mk2. I bought my EM10 mk2 second hand back in 2017 and I still use it. It's my trusty light kit. I use it for portraiture, macro and landscape photography. The EM10 mk2 is a powerfull little camera packed with great features. Olympus stripped some of those features on later EM10's, so I have no plans to upgrade my EM10.
M43 in general terms is an enabler for me, I leave less of it at home due to bulk. The lenses are, for the most part, within reach financially - unlike many FF equivalents. I have an M1 mk2 and have wanted for nothing. Occasionally, Topaz De-noise might be used to clean an image up. The system offers some truly useful and system-unique features.
I am with Wayne. I bought the EM10 and still use it for street photography. I also own the EM1 Mk3 and it is fantastic for landscape. Paired these with Olympus pro lens and the result is fantastic especially in lower light where the internal stabilisation of the camera and lens allows for lower ISO hand held.
I would recommend the em1 mark II because of all it's great features and also it's great used prices (been hearing you can get it for around $450-$550 on Ebay). I used to have a Panasonic g85, but switched to Olympus because of the superior auto-focus.
Been getting along well with µ4/3 since 2012 (Lumix G5), having upgraded through the years to the GX8 | GH4 | GH5 | and now GH5II, mainly for video. I have always been intrigued by Fuji, but realistically staying with µ4/3 due to the myriad of Pro glass I have accumulated. Most recently the Leica 9mm/1.7. However, for more photographic endeavors, I am looking towards a Lumix G9, OMD-EM1 MkII, or even the OMD-EM1X. Most of my lenses are M.Zuiko Pro glass… 🤔
Nice video, thanks. I picked up an EM10Mii couple of years ago for $300US with lenses and works perfectly, made it my EDC camera almost immediately. I have FF, APSc, Lumix M43, but just love this camera. Couple of months ago found an EM10MiiiS for even less at another Pawn shop, love them both, great features etc. going to try some street photography soon.
Yea I’ve been amazed at how quickly the em10 mkii became my go-to for street. It just makes the most sense given the features it has vs my FF and apsc cameras🖖
I love the EM10 II I switched from a far expensive Nikon D5600 last year. It has a really nice metal build. If you are happy to manual focus there some great four thirds lenses out there that can be adapted. I like the 50mm F2 macro and 50-200 telephoto.
Yeah I love using old manual lenses, I have many adapters already for my canon and Sony systems and an m42 adapter for the Olympus. I haven’t looked at four thirds lenses yet, thanks for the tip🖖
sheesh, I too got the EM-10 Mark II on eBay for $195, which I consider a pretty good deal. Though I purchased a 45mm f1.8 and 40-150 mm with It, I haven't manage to get any wide cool shots. Though I've manage to make use of the 401-50 for those close-up Telephoto shots..
From my experience, I have used Olympus Micro 4/3's for a good 5 years, and I have made a solid investment. I have recently purchased my first Full Frame camera, which has fantastic image quality, but I genuinely prefer smaller lenses. I'm more than happy with my current Micro 4/3 cameras and lenses, however I may not look into getting another micro 4/3 camera anytime soon.
The E-M10II is actually an astonishingly capable camera. I bought a used one as my back-up camera (having a Pen F as my main camera) - and found myself using it more than the Pen F! I'm thinking of buying a second E-M10II for IR conversion (the first one was meant for that, but a second body could have a full conversion including the IR72 or IR68 filter in front of the sensor). I did look at the Sony APS-C cameras, but the lenses are bigger (and of lower quality), and I don't like Sony cameras (I do have an A7 Mk I, the IQ is just wow, everything else not). I'm very happy with all the lenses I can have for m43, and the whole system feels quite right for me. Well, my main "love" is film photography, and 4x5 with a view camera has become my preferred tool - so going really small on digital looks like a good idea … 😁
Hi David, I started with Canon APS-C with a camera bought off my brother in law. Eventually I too bought an Olympus EM10, my comparison was against a Canon 7D mk2. The lack of anti-aliasing filter really made the Olympus outshine the Canon. Also I couldn't get image stabilised primes for shooting indoor flower shows, where you get a deadly combination of tables being knocked so subject shake and low light. I traded in my Canon 7d mk2 for a less than 1,000 shutter count EM1 mk2 and also bought the Olympus 25mm f1.8 with the change. The photo improvement has been remarked upon by the members of the National Flower society for whom I'm the webmaster. That's down to the IBIS. The great thing with Micro Four Thirds is that the lens mount has been stable since 2008, so there are lots of great secondhand lenses about. Enjoy your EM1 mk2 when you get it, as it's a brilliant all round camera and don't be surprised if it becomes your go to for most of your photography.
I already use my full frame gear way less than I used to and the em10 mkii has been my first choice for street shooting over the last month or so. I love the fact that despite its size, it doesn’t feel cheap and flimsy. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Hi David, before you spend your money on an EM1 MK2 you might like to feel the weight and size of it. Just nip to your local camera shop and handle an EM1 MK3 or an OM1. Then pick up an OM5. Also take a look at this you tube video: th-cam.com/video/Hh6hAkYHJQQ/w-d-xo.html If the small size of MFT is what really appeals to you, there might be some thinking to do. I own both the EM1 MK2 and EM5 MK3 they're quite different in their handling the EM5 being closer to the EM10 than the EM1. Malcolm
Great little summary, I've actually recently moved from a Canon 7D2 which was a beast in terms of AF, but to get sharper pictures I'd have to get expensive and heavy glass. After a lot of research and watching the likes of Robin Wong, I got myself an EM1 (mk1) and 75-300mm lens. In Australia they both cost me around $600, which is the same as 7D2 body only. Im super happy so far, but I'm aware of the AF limitations for moving subjects, so am thinking of upgrading to EM1 mark ii which will probably be the only camera I ever need as an amateur hiker/wildlife+landscape photographer. I also got myself an EPM2, which with 14-150mm lens still weighs 700g and is ideal for street and landscape if I'm not expecting exciting wildlife about. I can even carry both bodies and still be below 7D2 with something like 70-200mm lens. I'm not selling or printing my images, so quality is more than enough for me.
I love my m4/3 cameras, but i have to say, i dont use them much after i tried a Contax SLR... Its compact, fast to use, small... I am using the Contax around 5 years, changed the batteries once 😁 its hard to go back to digital.
I own the Olympus E-M5 III. Yes, it's plastic...but that enables a remarkably lightweight feel that is a breeze to carry around all day. M4/3 lenses tend to be smaller and lighter than APS-C or Full Frame lenses, too, so there's definitely an advantage in weight/size with the M4/3 format. As an amateur, the Olympus provides everything I want in a camera...and then some. M4/3 is definitely not dead.
I had the same problem with my rear screen on my EM10 mk2. I'm sure you're fine with yours as it is but the problem is the ribbon cable from the screen to the main board inside. I had mine fixed which cost £100. The ribbon cable itself is about £15 but its fiddley to do. I have the 45mm 1.8 and it's a great lens so go and get one. Thanks for the great videos keep them coming.
Yeah I already looked into the repair and it’s probably something I’ll get fixed next year👍 My 45mm f1.8 is arriving Monday 😁 Thanks for watching, Stephen🖖
I was thinking there is a setting that turns off the screen when it is parked and just uses the evf? You want to get an old Industar lens 30gbp and adapter. All manual but great fun to use and great images and looks good to.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I hope you have better luck adapting other lenses than I had. The Zeiss ZEs I tried with M43 cameras don't yield clear images; based on things I've read online, I think it might have to do with Olympus and Panasonic cameras manipulating the files as though they were shot on their own lenses. I don't know about that, of course, but I did find the files from the Zeiss lenses to be unclear.
Hi David, nice video and for as far my experience reach I recognize what you told. I got an E-M10 since January and it’s fun and the results can be great! But I have to get used a bit more to it because I only used it with M42 analog lenses yet.
Thanks very much. It’s a wonderful camera and even using M42 lenses, a 28mm can be a great walk around lens on micro four thirds. I hope you continue to have fun with it🖖
Olympus is simply ahead of the game in computational photography. They could improve but I am sure they will slowly improve as to not ruin themselves by giving too much too fast. I will hold on to my Nikon gear and Sony/Minolta gear for a long time. My E-PL1 turned me off to Olypmus but when I got the E-M10 ii at a deal of a price it convinced me to walk on for Olympus.
I shot with Nikon dx apsc . My video camera died and I saw an Epl 5 in the bargain bin at a ridiculous price. Started using it for videos for use at her dance studio. Then I started to take a few photos and posted them on our website. I got comments about how good my photos were to my surprise. I was looking at getting a new camera and the then new Em5 was getting rave reviews so I took a punt and got one. Photography was so much more fun with all the exciting things this camera could do. 10 years later I have dumped the Nikon, started with the kit lenses and went to an Em1 and then bought a couple of pro lenses. Boy were they good. Now I have a Pen-f which I use for travel and street and the Em1 with pro lenses for higher end stuff. Love the system. By mixing and matching my kit I am set for just about everything. Yes it is not as good as Full Frame but I can buy a good set of lenses and a camera for less than just a camera. Best of all I can carry it. No longer a bag full of heavy expensive lenses. There are some things it can’t do but it does 90%. The knockers of the mft system probably have never used them or are more interested in specs or just think FF is the only option period. To me it is extremely good value in terns of quality, price, size and features but most of all weight and flexibility. Get a Pen-f. It is so much fun.
I have been using both m43 and full frame for many years. Size, weight and lots of good optics are the main winning points. Tools like DXO PureRAW have made me less concerned about iso performance. I liked the small Olympus E-PM2 very much, but I have now now replaced it with the Panasonic GX9 and also added a Panasonic G9. Panasonic 9mm, Panasonic Leica 12-60mm and Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8 is a stunning set of lenses to cover a wide range of focal lengths. I would be curious to try the OM-1 and the 12-100mm f4. For the future I hope both Panasonic and OM systems keep developing the flagship bodies not only for video but also for stills photography. A Panasonic G9 mark II or an OM systems OM-1 mark II with a 24 or 32 megapixel sensor with one stop better dynamic range and high iso performance would breathe life into the system. If they can work on better compatibility between Panasonic and OM systems regarding dual IS that would be very welcome too.
I’ve had an EM 1Mk2 for over a year and I love it. I use it for Real Estate photography, landscapes and street! I sold my Canon 5dMk4 and my lenses a few months ago. I haven’t looked back. You’ll love the touch screen focus and shoot option for street photography. You can be very stealth using that function!! Just found you and I’m subscribed 🎉😊
Started looking for a camera for video a couple of years ago. Ended up buyi g the panasonic g7 and after awhile I was like I'm going to start shooting photos. Was into it back in the day with my k1000. And brought a new love in my life. I baught a G9 later on then last year ended up with a nikon z6. I love both systems can't afford the telephoto lenes for the ff yet but have for the mft. In the end they are tools and each I use for different purposes.
Exactly the same. FF is main kit but the obvious trade off is size and weight so the apsc is in my bag for most things, but after seeing what the E-M10 mkii can do, I think that can easily replace my apsc kit. Thanks for watching 🖖
After seeing a friend's results, I recently got a GX80 with the 12-32 and an Olympus 45 1.8. Great lightweight kit when I don't want to lug the FF stuff around. I am amazed by the high ISO performance. I suspect that further M43 exploration is in my future although, while small, Pro level M43 lenses are expensive.
You will find with Olympus that you can't buy just one. Especially with the used deals that turn up occasionally like the like new EM1 with battery grip that I bought last year for $299 from a vendor in S. Korea. First one was an EPL-7 with kit lens in 2019. Then a new EM10 Mk ii with two lenses for $499. Latest addition last month was a like new EM1 Mk ii. Haven't used that one much yet. I mostly do nature pics and am waiting for cooler weather here in the Ozarks.
Yeah I think you’re spot on there. I already bought the em1 mkii since making this video and I’m now looking at one of the Pen models for street shooting as my youngest son has taken a liking to the em10 mkii 😁
Yeah when I said it doesn’t have it, I should have said it doesn’t have it in a really useable sense. Having to assign it to a specific button to get it to work besides just pressing the af button, whether that’s back button or on the shutter release is a bit cumbersome to say the least. Thanks for watching 🖖
The most important thing of Olympus cameras - is fantastic color science straight out of the box. Jpegs look so natural and 3d with vibrant green trees and lovely skin colors. Other things, like bokeh and "best of the best" fullframesonycanonfujiautofocus, are not so important for producing pictures you like to see and make with great pleasure! Everyday, every bright moment, you have a perfect small camera for every perfect moments of your own life. No matter of sensor size, if the picture is great!
Excellent choice David ! I bought a second hand Olympus OMD-EM1 mark II just few years ago & I am amazed by the build quality, the features & the photos every time I use it. The Olympus lenses are also quite cheap & excellent. A very good system indeed. I suggest you to try also the OMD-EM5 mark II which is perfectly weather sealed. Have Fun ! And your Sony is taking a bath by the river ?
Genuinely happy with the em10 mkii so I can imagine the em1 mkii being awesome. Any lenses you’d recommend other than the 2 I mentioned? Thanks for watching 🖖
I have a G9. The only time a micro thirds sensor has let me down is indoors in low light when I can’t use one of my primes and I’m shooting people so I can’t use a tripod. In other words almost never. If I was a professional that shot weddings I would want a full frame but for an amateur like myself micro 4 thirds is fantastic. Great video.
David im waiting for the E-M5 to be delivered today from MPB after many many hours of research to decide. The superb image quality, flip up screen for creative shots, lightweight and with live view and other features. Sold my bulky Nikon D300s with lenses on Facebook marketplace the other day. Also ordered the m42 adapter to use with my vintage lenses.
I love my Olly Em1 mkii, the advantages for me over my apsc cameras is reack, the crop factor is a bonus. I utilize 4/3 lenses which is inexpensive way to get great quality and reach for sports. I also use the Panasonic GX9 WHICH IS A GREAT CAMERA IN ITS OWN RIGHT. I really enjoy the em1 mkii autofocus, thats why I ultimately went with the Mkii as it has phase setect af. Best of luck and Merry Christmas
Yeah I think I’m settled on the Em1 mkii. Seems pretty much perfect for street and these videos. You’re the second person to mention 4/3 lenses so I’ll definitely look into that. Have a great Christmas 🖖
I have the GX9, love it for travel and street. Just the body, the ultrasmall 12-34, the panasonic 20mm 1,7 and the 42,5mm. 1,7. In total, maybe something like 900€ :-D It's the same money that I paid for the fuji's 33mm 1.4. The camera system have its uses, but I don't consider myself a big fan, I just prefer fuji's apsc system. But I like it, and I love using it when I travel. It delivers, and it can create amazing results, of course.
I have 4 Oly cameras, my first was the SLR OM2, then the DSLRs EM5iii, EM10iv, and now the EM1iii. Graduated up from a Nikon D7500, too heavy for me, a Sony a7ii, still use and have sold the Sony a6000 I had. Am definitely staying with Olympus! I‘m at the age when lighter means happiness-and a less sore back and arms😅 Love the EM1iii, I feel it‘s the best of the three I have and l feel very comfortable with it. The OM1‘s grip is too big for my small hand, so that‘s definitely out!
Em10 MK2 is a cracking little camera, paired with my vintage Minolta 50mm or Zuiko 50mm lens it's a really sharp, cool looking bit of kit. Been shooting with one for 3 years now but looking at the G9 or em1 MK2/3 next
I still have a Nikon D7200 which I've had years and I'll never get rid of it but when I want a nice little walk about camera my EM10 is a joy to use with a little wrist strap, even for Motorsport and wildlife with the Panasonic 100-300 it's capable of some impressive shots. I could do with a 25mm 1.7 lens next
Really enjoyed the video. I've got the E-M1 II myself and have been really enjoying it. It's a great camera, especially for the price if you can get it at a fair deal used. I've paired mine with the 14-150 II lens and when I need a longer lens the 75-300. Paired with these lenses AF performance is pretty good, however, not always the best (especially low-light). I would say hit rate during the day is fantastic and focus is great (even on low burst), hit rate in low light drops to about 70% I would say, though focus is still pretty quick and it regains accurate focus quickly after losing it. I'd recommend the David Thorpe (rest in peace, Micro Four Thirds hero) reviews and Micro Four Nerds channel in general for good content and tips. For better focus I recommend Olympus PRO lenses or primes in general, they focus quicker and Olympus' own line-up is weather-sealed like the body from the 14-150 II (kit lens) and up (PRO). As a travel camera and do-it-all I really love it and it's a lot easier to carry around compared to even most aps-c bodies. Usually, I don't even think about not taking it with me because I just clip it to my backpack (Capture Clip from Peak is great) and don't even feel it being there (granted, with the bigger lenses like the 75-300 or most PRO lenses you will feel the weight). In general, I love the feature set, 4K video (beware of focus breathing while shooting on C-AF), massive burst rates, good quality RAW files, high-res shot (though not without tripod) and I've been pleasantly surprised by the battery life too. Overall, I would say get it if you can. The mk3 would also be great, it's supposed to have even better AF performance and the handheld high-res mode. It usually goes for around double, though... PS: that display on the M10 should be a pretty simple fix, it's likely only the display cable which are a small ribbon, attached (generally) by ZIF connectors on either side of the cable, only thing is: basically full disassembly is required to do so (for 57 quid and a cable I would probably do it though).
I was out yesterday shooting with the Olympus 45mm f1.8 and noticed how much faster the af was with that lens. I think the 25mm f1.8 and then a zoom for the longer end are next on the list once I get myself an Em 1. Thanks for watching 🖖
@David Flower I also enjoy the 45 mm, though I found more use for the 25 in general. A nice zoom is always a good idea, especially with MFT doubling the effective zoom range. Have fun finding a nice lens and body. I'll be sure to check out the video once it comes out 👌🏻
My first "proper" digital camera, in 2008, was an Olympus E-500. It seemed like a logical choice as I've been shooting with an Olympus OM-1 SLR since the 1970s. However, I soon found that it wasn't great in low light (what was back then?) and I also needed at least an APS-C to shoot virtual walkthroughs of local businesses for Google. I stuck with Canon for a decade, moving on to "full frame" because it was apparently better in low light (I mostly shoot live music). Last year I decided I wanted to finally make a move to mirrorless, as I wanted something smaller and lighter. However, even though the R series cameras are a bit smaller, they are expensive and the fast lenses even more so, as well as being big and heavy. So I looked at Olympus again and bought an EM-10iii and a used 45mm f/1.8 prime to try. It was impressive but a bit too small for my hands, so I bought a used EM-1 for a bargain price to try that. It felt right in my hands, like my beloved OM-1. I added more prime lenses and a couple of Pro zooms, then an EM-1ii followed by an EM-1iii, both of which I use all the time now. And I still have the EM-10, and a Lumix GX80 for taking on holidays. I don't miss using "full-frame" at all, and low light performance is perfectly good up to ISO 3200 for both online use and printing. Definitely go for an EM-1 (a Mark 2 can be picked up for reasonable prices) and a Pro lens (12-45mm f/4?), then you'll have the renowned Olympus weather sealing for shooting on those rainy days up north.
Yeah I’m my experience shooting FF, apsc and now micro 4/3 iso performance in what I’d call the normal range (up to 1600 iso or so) is useable across the board. It’s only when you step outside that range that cameras like my A7s really shine, but that’s a fairly rare occurrence for me. What’s really drawn me in to micro 4/3 is the fact that even the “entry level” EM 10 mkii is packed with features that you just don’t get unless you go for the higher end models with other brands. I just got the 45mm f1.8 and it’s not been off the camera since it arrived. I’m decided on the em1 mkii because you’re absolutely right, that weather sealing (amongst other things) will definitely be handy around here. Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Just remember, weather sealing only works with Pro lenses attached, or those specifically designated as weather proof, which isn't many (60mm macro, 12-200mm, 14-150mm and 100-400mm). The 45mm is a little beauty and incredibly sharp for the price.
Yeah I’ll be getting some sealed lenses for those rough weather days. I’m curious to see if the weather sealing is in any way comparable to that of my old bomb proof Nikon D800. That thing proved itself on many occasions 😁👍
Yeah I was surprised to see things like 4k Timelapse and ibis etc in what is marketed as an entry level camera. Thanks for watching 🖖
Yeah I made the mistake of switching to Sony FF in 2020 and my bank account immediately hated me😂
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I only use a crop sensor cameras.

Thanks for the info, I’ll be sure to check his channel 🖖
May he rest in peace. He's missed.
Yes, David Thorpe's videos were a a very big help to me as well, bless him. Rob Trek too.
Hi David,
I've used full frame, APS-C and Nikon 1 in the past.
The 17mm f 1.2 lens brings street photography to another level on the latest OM-D 1.
Thank you🙏
I’ve had no problems with the C AF for street photography, not exactly fast moving compared to birds in flight, but it’s been great.
Thanks, Barry I really appreciate that🙏
@@DavidFlowerOfficial sorry I haven’t been in touch much, things have been crazy. Keep up the amazing videos! Have a great Christmas 🎄
Ah no apologies necessary mate, I appreciate every view. Have a good one, Barry 👍
Terrific video. As someone who just purchased the E-m1 Mark II your comments really have my attention. Can't wait for what comes next. Many thanks.
You communicate well. I mean, you manage to cover all aspects of your topics. Everything I needed to hear, you spoke to.
i have Em10m.2 and just like yours, the screen were "broken"....got very good price, and i love it since then.
I used to shoot FF as well. Never again. Small, light and amazing features.
Yeah I was pretty impressed by this. I’m definitely looking forward to getting my hands on an em1🖖
I also have the EM10 mk2 with a 14-42 kit lens. It`s a brilliant little camera and suits all types of photography.
On my em10 mk2 lcd got damaged. Quick search on youtube and ebay and spare part was available. Gave to my mate to solder it and it was good as new.
That’s great! I’ve already looked at the replacement cable and I think I’m going to give it a try once I get my em1.
Thanks for watching 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Cheers mate. I appreciate your videos. Fully agree with you. Enjoy your Pen mini!
I have E-M10ii just exactly like yours, the screen goin off when it flip. I change the flexible cable of the screen and voila it’s like new camera :) it’s fantastic and fantastic little camera..got couple lenses and I’m happy with it…cheers from Indonesia
Hi and thanks for watching. I’m going to get the new cable and fix mine in the new year. Take care🖖
Used to be APSC user, now using GH5ii as my main camera and Lumix GF10 for my daily camera as for training.
That's exactly what I use. E-M5 Mark II with Panasonic 12-60mm lenses. 👍👍
The Pen f, not
but great fun to use.
Perfection is a myth and Hull is ace if you don’t look too closely 😂
Have a good one mate 🖖
It’s on my list for the new year👍
Thanks for watching 🖖
Great video, I shoot Nikon Z6ll and OM1 . I find I enjoy the OM1 the most and in 75% of the shots it is very hard to tell which camera took the image.
EM10 Mark ii is a gorgeous camera. Tiny. My screen on mine did that. I got it repaired under warranty.
I have the EM10 mrk III, the EM1 mrk II but still tend to use my Nikon D750 for studio work. I love both cameras everyone its own use.
Absolutely, I’ll be keeping my ff set up, but I think the em1 mkii will replace apsc for me👍
I absolutely love my em-1. The prices on the first models are so affordable and so much fun to use.
My em-1 mkii is being delivered today. Can’t wait 😁
Thanks for watching 🖖
Yeah I’m genuinely excited to get myself an em1. I’m having a lot of fun with the em 10👍
I would recommend the em1 mark II because of all it's great features and also it's great used prices (been hearing you can get it for around $450-$550 on Ebay). I used to have a Panasonic g85, but switched to Olympus because of the superior auto-focus.
I think I’m sold on the em1 mkii. It’s around £400-500 used here🖖
Been getting along well with µ4/3 since 2012 (Lumix G5), having upgraded through the years to the GX8 | GH4 | GH5 | and now GH5II, mainly for video. Most of my lenses are M.Zuiko Pro glass…
🤔
A omd em1 w the Leica elmarit 14-50 2.8 is fantastic
My OMD EM10 II screen also does that. Seems like a common problem.
About the EM1 II. If you can pick one up used, it’s amazing but also a little overkill
After using FF Sony since early 2020 I’m all about overkill😂
Thanks for watching 🖖
Hi David,
I started with Canon APS-C with a camera bought off my brother in law.
Also take a look at this you tube video: th-cam.com/video/Hh6hAkYHJQQ/w-d-xo.html
If the small size of MFT is what really appeals to you, there might be some thinking to do. I own both the EM1 MK2 and EM5 MK3 they're quite different in their handling the EM5 being closer to the EM10 than the EM1.
Malcolm
Hi, there. I have an E-M5II fitted with a Carl Zeiss Planar T 50mm lens - superb images. x
Yeah I already looked into the repair and it’s probably something I’ll get fixed next year👍
My 45mm f1.8 is arriving Monday 😁
Thanks for watching, Stephen🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial The 45mm f1.8 is great for nice bokeh.
I was thinking there is a setting that turns off the screen when it is parked and just uses the evf? You want to get an old Industar lens 30gbp and adapter. All manual but great fun to use and great images and looks good to.
I’m a big fan of film era 35mm lenses. I have a Helios 44m and 44-2 and a few from Pentax etc. looking forward to giving them a try on the em10 mkii👍
I hope you continue to have fun with it🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial yes, found a Pentacon 29mm 😀
Olympus is simply ahead of the game in computational photography. They could improve but I am sure they will slowly improve as to not ruin themselves by giving too much too fast. I will hold on to my Nikon gear and Sony/Minolta gear for a long time. My E-PL1 turned me off to Olypmus but when I got the E-M10 ii at a deal of a price it convinced me to walk on for Olympus.
Yeah it’s definitely been an eye opener seeing what the em10 mkii can do. Thanks for watching 🖖
There is a magnet switch on the inner face of the screen (square recess) . Tht falls off and the screen may not work. Its a cheap repair
Nice find. The only m43 gear I have is a Panasonic GX800 with the 12-32mm kit lens. It's pretty decent and fits in a coat pocket.
I’ve never used any of the GX models but I’m definitely paying attention now 🖖
After seeing a friend's results, I recently got a GX80 with the 12-32 and an Olympus 45 1.8. Great lightweight kit when I don't want to lug the FF stuff around. I am amazed by the high ISO performance. I suspect that further M43 exploration is in my future although, while small, Pro level M43 lenses are expensive.
Yeah I’m definitely looking at micro four thirds as an apsc replacement. I should maybe look some of the lumix models too👍
You will find with Olympus that you can't buy just one.
6’15’’ My Sony 6000 has eye detect AF …It does not perform as with the recent mirrorless cameras but it works.
@@DavidFlowerOfficial Oly 75mm 1.8 incredible lens!
That sounds like my idea of fun. I often shoot at 135mm on FF and a 75mm is in the ball park. I’m definitely going to check that one out 🖖
@@lionelartige9738 Yes on that! The 75 f1.8 is really excellent.
Yeah I’d keep my FF for just such occasions. As a daily driver though, I can see myself going all in on a m4/3 system. Thanks for watching 🖖
I use a olympus e-m5 mk2 great little camera
David im waiting for the E-M5 to be delivered today from MPB after many many hours of research to decide.
The superb image quality, flip up screen for creative shots, lightweight and with live view and other features.
Sold my bulky Nikon D300s with lenses on Facebook marketplace the other day.
Also ordered the m42 adapter to use with my vintage lenses.
Of course ultimately its then up to me to be able to take good engaging images. I have a lot to learn.
5 AXIS stabilization as well of course that will come in handy generally ad for low light situations and telephoto lenses.
If I stick with Olympus then will invest in other lenses.
And weather sealed.
Yeah the em5 mkii is a great looking camera. I’m really enjoying the em10 so I can’t wait to get my em1 mkii.
Thanks for watching mate🖖
Yea, they are lovely , I have mostly the Pani ones.
I only have a G1 and gf2, but I’m looking at buying one of the newer models in the future. Thanks for watching 🖖
Yeah I’ve had a taste of the system now and looking forward to getting the em1 mkii🖖
Yeah the 25mm is next on my list👍
I'll be sure to check out the video once it comes out 👌🏻
Amazing photos.
Thanks very much 🖖
My first "proper" digital camera, in 2008, was an Olympus E-500.
