Birds are an integral part of nature.
The colorful birds and their melodious calls make the nature of Bengal sonorous.
Every bird species has a different name depending on the country or region.
Several birds have the bengalensis word in their scientific names, which derives from the name of our motherland, Bengal.
These birds include the Red-vented Bulbul, Indian Roller, White-rumped Vulture, Rufous-rumped Grassbird, Lesser Coucal, Black-breasted Weaver, and other different species.
Most of them are common in nature, but a few are quite rare.
Bulbul is notable among the melodious birds in our country.
    They are well-known as songbirds.
Red-vented bulbul is the most common in all kinds of forests and localities of our country.
It has a blackish-brown body with a small crest on its head.
The base of the tail has a bunch of bright red feathers.
Male and female birds look similar.
It mainly feeds on fruits of various trees and grains.
Black-rumped Flameback is also well-known like Bulbul.
It resembles other woodpeckers but has bright golden-yellow feathers on the back.
The breast, belly, and throat have black scales, and the eyes have black streaks.
This bird is widespread in all kinds of forests and localities of the country.
Vultures are known as the sweepers of nature or cleaners.
They keep the environment healthy and beautiful by feeding on dead and rotten.
White-rumped Vulture is the native bird of our country.
Their keen eyesight allows them to see everything below while flying in the skies.
This beneficial bird is currently listed as critically endangered due to our unawareness, ignorance, negligence, and imprudence.
Birds with the name Bengal include the Black-breasted Weaver, which inhabits reeds and grassland.
It is a bird of rare species.
Male and female birds have distinct body colors.
During breeding, the male bird has a yellow head, a black-gray neck, and a breast with black streaks.
It feeds on grass seeds, grains, and insects.
The Indian Roller is another beautiful and attractive bird of Bangladesh.
The upper part of the head, wings, lower belly, and tail are blue.
The throat has long thin dark brown and blue streaks.
The base of the tail and wing tip are dark blue.
They like to feed on small insects, amphibians, and reptiles.
Kingfisher is another well-known bird of our country.
They are prevalent near water bodies.
They perch intently on tree branches or poles near water bodies to hunt.
A species of Kingfisher, the Common Kingfisher, is locally named after Bengal.
Despite having a small body, its head is relatively huge; beak is long and sharp.
Its upper head, back, wings, and tail are blue, the belly is orange, and the legs are red.
They dive into the water to hunt fish, tadpoles, etc.
Tern flocks in groups in the coastal areas of the country.
Lesser Crested Tern is an extremely rare bird among them.
The scientific name of this species has similarities with the name of Bengal.
This medium-sized bird has a white body with long thin wings, an orange-yellow beak, and a small black crest on its head.
They flock in groups in sea sand dunes, creeks, coastal chars, and estuaries.
They like to feed on small fish.
Birds are the ornaments of the nature of Bengal.
Diverse birds can be found everywhere in the nature of Bengal.
Like other birds, birds named after Bengal also contribute to maintaining the balance of nature.
Scavengers like Vultures protect the environment from diseases by feeding on carcasses.
By feeding on insects, insectivorous birds control insect populations in the environment.
Frugivorous birds contribute significantly to plant propagation.
Piscivorous birds keep the aquatic environment healthy by feeding on diseased fishes.
The whole environment of Bengal benefits from this kind of contribution of birds.
However, many bird species in Bengal are currently endangered despite benefitting the ecosystem.
Among the birds named after Bengal, several bird species become rare, while others are sustained as critically endangered.
These birds are threatened due to a lack of suitable habitat, food scarcity, pollution, and climate change.
The small birds of grassland lost their habitats due to the destruction of grassland and reeds.
Therefore, we must ensure a safe habitat for these birds of Bengal.
We should also abstain from activities harmful to the birds.
Dear viewers, the Birds named after Bengal are our pride.
The name of Bengal will be sustained as long as these birds are.
Therefore, we must be more aware of conserving these birds.
Let us have a “Better life in Balanced Nature”.
    See you all next week.
