Every season the TWD team uses such brilliant pieces of music, songs which most people have never heard but each one a masterpiece, like this one. Another reason which makes this show one of the best ever to be produced for Television.
Idk what it is but having an actual song in an episode or in the credits just elevates it so much. TWD has a great soundtrack but having actual lyrics and melodies that fit the tone make it so much more atmospheric. I hate that they swapped acoustic instruments like strings that evoked so much emotion for over the top synthesised blares in season 5 onwards, until season 9 brought acoustic instrument back
One of the single best moments on the series...Hershel standing over that dead body, hesitating with the knife, then finally doing what he had to do.... Then paired with him looking at the bible with pain and doubt.... So sad and epic!
Yes. He lost his faith in that moment. And he realized what a fool he had been. Really was an emotional moment. I can only imagine what it was like to have the whole meaning of your existence fracture. I love this show.
Love your music, especially this song. Takes me back to when i was 14-15 watching the walking dead season 3 . listening in 2025 and ill continue forever
I’m re-binge watching TWD with my daughter who was too young to enjoy it when it originally aired. She heard this song and immediately loved it. And season 4 was imho the best Dead season. Saint Herschel to the rescue .... what a great character.
A testament to the acting of the late Scott Wilson (who was still alive for the filming of Rick's final TWD episode in S9, in which he appeared, but died before its television premiere) -- and also the casting director/team on that show, who so often seemed to find the exact right actor/actress to bring their character to life on-screen! I just can't imagine another actor playing Rick Grimes than Andrew Lincoln; or Carol Peltier than Melissa McBride; or Morgan Jones than Lennie James; or Glenn Rhee than Steven Yeun; or Shane than John Bernthal; or Philip/Brian (AKA: "The Governor") than David Morrissey; or Daryl Dixon than Norman Reedus; or Michonne than Danai Gurira; and so on, and so on, and so on...
It's the bow breaking on a stormy sea. The ocean roils up and up then it falls and crashes but it's still building in the next wave. . . That's what I feel, anyway.
The song was played in very related situation as per lyrics in S4.. As Hershel risks his life for his people and choose to do his duty by even other people loose hope about cure for this crisis but he keeps hope and still choose to help others as a Doctor.. Same as lyrics Go your way, I'll take the long way 'round, I'll find my own way down, As I should...... ...This is nice.... No wonder TWD is Success.

Sometimes you come across a voice and a song that does something to ur core.. it plays at something deep inside you. You feel like ur home. This does that.. it’s moves my soul. I listen to it every night when I go to bed. It’s more than beautiful..
I'd like to thank CD Projekt Red for introducing me to Ben Howard. Ever since I heard this song in the launch trailer early this year, I've just been in love with his music. I don't think I can go a day without listening to at least one of Ben's songs. I highly recommend that those of you who are here because of The Witcher 3 or the Walking Dead go check out his other stuff. Especially the song End of the Affair. It's probably my favorite song of all time.

Go your way I'll take the long way 'round I'll find my own way down As I should (This first verse is about acceptance of other's decisions, and the effect greed has on our psyches. Dishonesty is rewarded by gold in this society) And hold your gaze There's coke in the Midas touch A joke in the way that we rust And breathe again (This verse is about Midas and the effects he had on his town. Coke in the Midas touch, refers to coal in the gold smelting process which creates rust. There could also be a reference to polluting water with your greed as Midas only rid himself of his curse by touching his hands to the river Pactolus. If there were coal in his gold it would've killed a lot of his townsmen while bringing them riches. I expect that the "joke in the way that we rust" is a reference to the effects that coal miners had on the towns that they life and prosperity for). And you'll find loss And you'll fear what you found When the weather comes Tearing down (This verse is about the karmic effects that greed has. When you bring uncertainty to others, you'll be struck down) There'll be oats in the water There'll be birds on the ground There'll be things you never asked her Oh how they tear at you now (Again this could be a reference to coal miners, as oats in the water is a reference to cocaine and it was common for coal miners to get addicted to cocaine. Birds on the ground is also a sign of imminent death often by undetectable ways. It could also be literal: coal miners would use canaries to detect early signs of carbon monoxide levels). You'll also notice this song repeats itself. That's because this process does as well. Greed is cyclical and it ripples down to those who have been affected by it.

For what it's worth I'm 48 and I recall at school kids saying, when their favourite hitherto 'unknown' idols became popular, 'Well, I liked their early stuff'. From a psychological perspective, that;s just the ego and its extension of its false little empire. There are so many ways to discover music these days. Some people's identity seems to hinge on whether they spend their lives trying to find things people have yet to discover, which is all well and good. The fragility of their identity is demonstrated by the fact that when others then find out about things, they must then move on to the next uncharted band. Just a micro-version of captialism if you ask me. I am proud to be a fan of 'The Walking Dead'. I think their musical choices are superb. And I'm sure 99% or more of musicians wouldn't reject fans on the basis that they helped them emerge from obscurity!

SHHH Let people enjoy things the way they want to! To call someone fragile because they prefer things others have yet to discover shows your own prejudice rather than there fragility .
Dude all I see is Hershal crying on that bed after saving Glenn. One of the best characters besides Rick in my opinion, he never once threw away his morals for anything, and he died a truly good man. Rip. (Edit) that riff at the end is so good
Before this song, my favourite song on The Walking Dead was Wye Oak's 'Civilian', part of the Season 2 soundtrack. Now, this wins, hands down. Beautiful.

Honestly, i have never heard a song, that has had this effect on me, i simply cant stop listening to it, and when i'm not, i singing it in my head! I love this song, so much! Its unreal! It makes me feel something, no other song can do to me!
“Who else is here from Walking Dead?” Me! Prison weeping scene was so epic I had to find out who sang the song and then lord Ben became my fave artist next 2 yrs in row. Wow! And I wept at that scene with Marshall

This song is majestic ❤
A structured, well-written logical argument in the comment section of youtube? You must be new here. Welcome
Jonathan Lässig Thank you!
SHHH Let people enjoy things the way they want to! To call someone fragile because they prefer things others have yet to discover shows your own prejudice rather than there fragility .
Ben howard is masterpiece.
A few years earlier, The Walking Dead brought me here. Now I'm in love with Ben Howard, and I can't stop listening to his music.
such emotions....saw him live in Wilderness festival..wow....'you find yourself only when you get lost'....
Dude all I see is Hershal crying on that bed after saving Glenn. One of the best characters besides Rick in my opinion, he never once threw away his morals for anything, and he died a truly good man. Rip. (Edit) that riff at the end is so good
posibly my new fav song! how haunting does it sound???!
Before this song, my favourite song on The Walking Dead was Wye Oak's 'Civilian', part of the Season 2 soundtrack. Now, this wins, hands down. Beautiful.
OMG I AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY I HAVE BEEN OBSESSED WITH BOTH OF THOSE SONGS FROM THE WALKING DEAD OMG OMG YES
I literally couldn't stop listening to either of those songs.
Was the same for me ahah :D
Same :D
I remember finding "Civilian" before it was on the show, and was like "this would work in an episode. then season 2 comes and BOOM
everthing about this song has your attention. love the guitar, love the tone, so emotional. I love it.
My god the guitar solo at 3:29 is so good!! Wonderfull :)
TH-cam recommend this song to me yesterday and now I'm obsessed.
Go your way,
I'll take the long way 'round,
I'll find my own way down,
As I should.
And hold your gaze
There's coke in the Midas touch
A joke in the way that we rust,
And breathe again.
And you'll find loss
And you'll fear what you found
When weather comes
Tearing down
There'll be oats in the water
There'll be birds on the ground
There'll be things you never asked her
Oh how they tear at you now
Go your way,
I'll take the long way 'round,
I'll find my own way down,
As I should.
And hold your gaze
There's coke in the Midas touch
A joke in the way that we rust,
And breathe again.
And you'll find loss
And you'll fear what you found
When weather comes
Tearing down
There'll be oats in the water
There'll be birds on the ground
There'll be things you never asked her
Oh how they tear at you now
You'll find lows*
He's 1 of very few musicians who spine tingling is actually an appropriate description

Walking Dead anyone? I'm glad the show was able to provide an awesome singer and song choice!
Wasn't entirely sure about Ben Howard until I heard this song, changed everything. Magical
“Who else is here from Walking Dead?” Me! Prison weeping scene was so epic I had to find out who sang the song and then lord Ben became my fave artist next 2 yrs in row. Wow! And I wept at that scene with Marshall
There is no such thing as bad Ben Howard songs there are only those that are amazing and those who are a little less amazing!
Never thought someone would get inspiration from their breakfast!
Beautiful, brilliant song.
The first time I heard this song I loved it after 30 seconds.
Wow. That's the only way to summarize this song. It's so incredibly wonderful and beautiful. Just, wow...
The whole album is so Pink Floyd. I'm loving it.
