    Thanks for the info, much appreciated, I ended up using a ratchet strap to hold the base of the filter and the large screwdriver to twist off the lid, then used the screwdriver to pry it off the base, 60611 miles on a 2011 mini s and the filter was as dark as yours was with dark gas in the housing.

    Beware, even after the car has set overnight, when taking off the fuel line it will sqirt out with a lot of pressure. Got me in the face and eyes. Also, it wasn't clear on how to install the new outside filter housing "large blue one " gasket. You must first install that and then push the housing down on to it. It will never work putting it on the housing first. The sticker means the filter has never been changed. Dont really have to put a Mark on the spin cape. It will go on and just make it snug..Thanks for the video.

    • @PrintTech-3D

      Remove the fuel pump fuse or the relay and run the car until it shuts off. That releases all the pressure in the line.

    Had you pressed the Schrader valve pin on the fuel rail, you wouldn't have had the pressure in the fuel line, subsequently avoiding the issue of spraying fuel about the interior whilst popping the pipe off... The Schrader valve (identical to a tyre valve, which is also a Schrader valve) is at the rear of the camshaft cover, on the left hand end of the engine.

    • @superstephen4
      @superstephen4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The 56 S's don't have Schrader valves, but yeah you can bleed pressure by loosening the line at the hpfp.

    Hi,
    FYI : There is no fuel filter on the R56 One/Cooper NON-S under the passenger seat (except on Korean and US versions).🤔 Mine (European R56 Cooper non-S of july 2007) hasn't one under seat. The only filter is the small pad on the fuel pump located under the left passenger rear seat (it looks like a Senseo Coffee pad ). You can only clean this pad with brake cleaner or ... replace the entire pump.
    On Diesel version, the filter is under the body on the left side of the car.🙂

    Hello! Thanks for the video! I have a question based on the comments here suggesting that I release the fuel pressure first before changing the filter. How do I set it under pressure afterwards? Is the car doing it by itself when I fake start it like at the end of the video or do I do something specific?

    I am watching this video and I've done this job. What I don't understand is why the body did not go back into the tank easily. Is there something that can get in the way or get bent or needs to be dealt with when putting the body back into the tank? I had to push down hard to ge the metal ring to thread and then when I tightened the metal ring it popped off if I tightened it too far. Can you troubleshoot this a bit?

    • @ProjectMini
      @ProjectMini  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gasket that goes inside the tank needs to go around the hole that you are putting it in. Its the hole in the actual tank.

    • @DanRaabecoach2014
      @DanRaabecoach2014 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProjectMini I think I did that. I saw on the fuel filter video that you had to push the filter body into the tank as well. I used a little o ring tool to put the lip of the gasket into the filter body and I still had to push. Is that unusual. How would you test it to see if it is done right?

    Installing the new blue O ring in the tank first and then put the pump in, this is much easier and will; prevent leaking. Also put a little bit of oil on the rubber O ring inside the filter, this will prevent it from breaking on install. Silicone spray also works.

    Good job man.. They're a pain in the ass to change.. aren't they? You would think that Mini would've designed a larger access panel to get your fingers down in there to get that retainer ring off, but NOOOOOOOO. They made it as uncomfortable & difficult as possible, like they did with everything else. I'm stuck taking care of my wife & daughter's Coopers, so I'm well-familiar with your pain. Good job though.😌

    For anyone struggling to seat the thick blue tank seal, instead of leaving it on the fuel filter housing, attach it to the top of the tank instead where it needs to go, then slide the housing through it and tighten it down. Use a little grease if you need to.
    You can risk pinching the seal if you try to force it on with the housing.

  • @TheChondrolover
    @TheChondrolover 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well, I bought a fuel filter, popped off the backseat and unscrewed the lid behind the passenger seat only to find a plastic sheet covering the hole underneath the plate, there is no servicable fuel filter in european mini coopers apparantly, maybe in the cooper S, but not in the base cooper. Found out more people have had the same surprise as me. On the other side is the fuel pump, and there is no exchangeable fuel filter in that, I guess you have to replace the whole fuel pump if you get a clogged fuel supply.... How in the hell can they sell fuel filters for my mini when there is nowhere to fit it???!!! And on realoem it shows a fuel filter housing just like the one in the video, but there is none in reality on the european models. How can a car not have a fuel filter?? Thanks for a great video anyways!

    I think I can also do the cabin filter. I don't know where the air filter is in the car but if I figure it out, I'm changing it too.
    I'm kind of happy I skipped doing my nails this week :)
    Thank you so much for this video.
    My 2010 R56 is my first car and I'm learning so much about cars and how many headaches they bring.
    New brakes came with a new caliper because the rear brakes were never changed. He only had 35k miles when I got him, and I'm 100% sure he never had a tune up. So tune up is next with full service just because I want it to run without giving me any more headaches. I want to do as much as I can on my own just so I can learn more about how the car works.

    This is unrelated to this fuel filter project, but wanted to get your thoughts. I have 2016 Cooper S Countryman All4. “Engine Malfunction…Reduced Power” alert came on 2 weeks. Other than the ignition noticeably taking a second longer to start the engine, it seems to be driving fine. Innova CarScan pulled a code P1338. Two things that might not be related to this alert: 1. The alert came on when was driving slowly and switched to Sport mode. 2. This alert went away 2 days ago. The weather is significantly warmer. Could a faulty Mass Air Flow sensor pull this code? Or, malfunctioning coil(s)?

    lot of mistakes done . the main rubber seal should be seated on the tank and then the filter housing should drop and pressed in. the housing will sit flush and then the outer ring can be used to tighten it. you just wedged it in and tried to put the ring on top. the seal is likely kinked and not sealed properly.

    It is a great video, I want to add that you need to twist to the leftwith the screwdriver when taking the pum apart than prime out with the screwdriver as the gentleman explain, later when u put it back together you need to put the pump head in and twist it to the right after getting the head inside the pump body, it has locker pin that need to be match.
    Also mark are good references but use finger nail Polish , because the gasoline will delete the mark

    Would be good to relief the fuel pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and then start the car until it runs out of gas, with that you ensure sistem is not pressurized, it would make easier the removal of the fuel line and less risk of a fuel spill inside the vehicle. Good video!!
