Knowing that machine from the inside to the out is going to give you a lot of confidence when you start doing jobs on it. You basically know nearly every link in the drive chain from motor to work piece and what is pretty amazing to me is so do I now, very cool Adam :)

Positively love the work you are doing on the G & E. It is so good to see tools being refurbished as opposed to being scraped. When the G & E is done i hope yo post some before and after photos. Going to be a BIG difference.

Never worry that hand filing might be "boring," as mentioned in your previous video. The hand-tool skills are just as interesting. And for some of us who have done some small metal work but never got our hands on stuff in a machine shop, are also something we can relate too. My tryst with metal work was some years as a jeweller, just a hobbyist, but built up a fairly good workshop (and a little bit of skill!). Your videos are wonderful, and reignite the wish I had since school to learn and do machining. Not foreseeable, but hey, I may yet have another whole one-third of lifetime left!

This is one of my favorite videos to date I think... The subtle music during the filing of the tool slide was a great touch. Also, nice Reed vise! Made back in the prime of my hometown, Erie, PA. I have a few old Reed tools including a vise as well.

Adam, You may have inadvertently discovered the cause of the original key being missing from the machine. I love how it's coming along, it's one thing to correct the issues, it is another to take it to the level you have. Absolutely awesome work

Beautiful work and I know it will be maintained throughout it's time with you in your shop. I take brand new machines and touch up factory paint that has become chipped or scratched during shipping to make it flawless and will maintain it in that manner always. I have tools I have kept and used for 30 years that look as pristine as when they came out of the box. Some would ask if I ever use them and they are used on a regular basis.
I loved your soft touch with putting these components back to working precision. I am still baffled by what type of imbecile would use a hammer to strike a precision tool with such force as to deform it. It is a wonder that the shaper still worked at all with the abuse that created all the dents, divots and dings . Respect your tools!
Yeah you would think if they were any good as a machinist they would know how to use a wrench to loosen things instead of beating them into submission.

these ones especially are beefier than others I've seen. They do make some small shoddy looking ones too. I run planers myself so I love this.
