    This is my favourite single from Depeche, there’s 3 samples from kraftwerk thrown into the mix, Violator is Depeche at their best. The World Violation Tour was incredible, I have t-shirts from this tour which are 33 years old 😂 which I still wear today, there are a lot of songs which either blend into one another or has a little tune in between the songs, listening to each song in isolation is not the most ideal way to listen to it.

  • @vnvmode
    @vnvmode ปีที่แล้ว +12

    If I were you, I wouldn't break them down song by song. I would get a quiet space when you have the time and listen to the album in full. Uninterrupted. I know a few people who aren't big depeche mode fans but will still listen to this album in full. I think the album deserves this including the musical interludes, Crucified and Interlude No. 3.
    Once you listen to the album in full you can break it down song by song.

    • @lynnhettrick7588

    Great video! And you choosed the right video for it.. i love that with the lyrics.. the sound is great too.
    And i have the same opinion as you.. it sounds very 90s even though it was recorded in the 80s.. 1989 to be specific.

  • @dancegenie
    @dancegenie 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Martin Gore says in the 17 February 1990 issue of NME:
    Interviewer: On the opening track 'World In My Eyes' you seem to be saying 'Just for this moment pleasure and gratification are all that matters'. It's almost like (deep breath) existentialism.
    Gore: Yes, and it’s a very positive song. It's saying that love and sex and pleasure are positive things

  • @NS-ie2ld

    As soon as I heard this first song off the album, I was like wow. Blown away. Can’t wait for the rest. Again, Alan’s mastery of putting together tunes and Martin’s brilliant way with words are on full display. Definitely in the A list for me at the very least.
    I have this album neck and neck with MFTM, giving that one the slight edge especially since the tour after that album came out was the best I’ve ever been to… as you saw from your 101 reaction.
    They do continue to evolve their sound with each album. Even though this was released early 90, I still consider it an 80’s sound as the songs were primarily finished in 89.
    And as others have mentioned, the b-sides for this album are a must review.
    Make sure you do the album version for each song from this album. In several cases, much better than the single/ video version.

  • @balovett
    @balovett 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Dude, you've got the moves. The best part of this reaction is those first few seconds of the song where Depeche Mode's new electronic direction is clearly catching you off guard. That syncopated bass line is so sublime. And that manually played syncopated muted brass melodic line between the verses and in the post-chorus and outro gets me every time. This tune marked a massive step forward in their sound and sets the stage for the collective masterpiece that follows.

  • @Barbu_Deluxe
    @Barbu_Deluxe ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Just a fantastic tune. Best era for me. The sound was not overproduced with random bleeps thrown here and there without a melodic construction. Nothing superfluous. Everything is at the place is meant to be. And you’ll see all the Melodie’s stay in your head. Great tunes… Violator is my all time favorite album. 😊

    Why not the official video? The Album is produced by Mark Ellis aka FLOOD, but the work of Alan is also unbelievable. The song was the 4th single and did really well in the charts. DO NOT FORGET TO REACT TO B-SIDES!!! There were 2 on this single: "Happiest Girl" and "Sea Of Sin". Both fantastic !!!❤❤❤

    My absolute favorite album, when listening to this album i never skip a song on it.I bought it the morning it came out..was there right after store opened and got it, I had even heard a teaser of it, days before getting it. KROQ here in LA had Dave come in and they previewed all the tracks.We then had of course the big record store signing with Depeche in LA where it turned into maadhouse and they had to shut it down with barely anyone getting anything signed. Their fame was at its peak at this point, although they are always popular here in LA.

    Those two musical build ups and releases at the 2:44 and at the 4:25 marks are supposed to simulate the euphoric feeling of an orgasm.
    That's why the lyrics say "that's all there is, nothing more than you can feel now - that's all there is" and "that's all there is, nothing more than you can touch now - that's all there is".

    World in my Eyes -- another great opener. It sets the right tone... moody, dark, dance-y, soothing... there's just a very modern, clean feel to all of the tracks on Violator.

  • @alregis8668
    @alregis8668 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Most of the album was made in 1989, it's more likely DM that made this 90 sound. Well, actually, since this song is heavily inspired by 1986 Kraftwerk's Music non stop, Kraftwerk are to thank. They inspired DM to go electronic instead of guitar and while some songs didn't aged well, some of them are so ahead of their time (It's mor fun to Compute) that it's hard to believe it was created in the early 80's.
    About Violator, the objective was to make the album like nothing ever done, a very risky approach. It was the good one since almost everyone took inspiration. I'm not sure electroacoustic guitar would be so present in electronic music if it wasn't for Violator.

    This song is without a doubt fantastic for a song that leads off “Violator” in lush, adventurous, and engaging fashion. To me, it’s almost like “Axel F” by Harold Faltermeyer from the “Beverly Hills Cop” soundtrack met “What’s on Your Mind (Pure Energy)” by Information Society, but in a slightly more sophisticated manner.
    The lyrics are definitely lustful, but in an ARTISTIC way, along with Gahan’s voice, and that’s one of many things I’ve come to love about Depeche Mode and their beautiful music.
    Cheers from the USA!

    A freshman at WVU, an engineering student was I. A long week of calc and other horrors. A Friday night in a club that doesn’t even exists anymore. An average kid, tall dorky and uncoordinated who knew pi out to 5 digits. The night wears on like a slow drink. Vodka to be precise. My friends signal to leave, I wander pass the dance floor full of those 70s colors. I see a thin figure as I cross the floor. Madonna playing ehh whatever, I kinda wiggle while catching her eye. Like fucking magic this song comes on. Our positions change where we are close. I glanced her as I moved over towards her, her b cup boobs press into me. She grabs my drink and sips from it, her lips wet. I’m cool on the outside but inside a feeling no drug ever could cause. The lights flashing as her body seems to mechanically move against mine. Slow motion, sights, smells, her smile. An Irish girl from U of Pitt. One dance I have never forgotten in my life. Good times back then

The overall arrangement, production, it's amazing. And the best is yet to come! This isn't even one of my favorite tracks, it gets better! Side note, every album practically has at least one good "pop" song. This is that thing for Violator!

    1990.. car sex with 1O1 and Violator album on loops. Beach parks, Country lanes and nympho ladies were the best memories for a young guy then. You have more tracks to enjoy in this album. Waiting for the night is something special. Policy of Truth, Enjoy the Silence, Clean. Take your gf on a drive and see. The album Songs of Faith and Devotion 1993 is going to blow your mind, like it did mine, when i was also blowing my mind. In your room, time stands still, or moves at your will. Do the album version before the live. The album version of In Your Room as like standing in front of the gate of hell, which is what drug addition takes you too.

      You have to get used to the new sound. It was the same with me. Took some time to really like Violator 😅 but then.. it strikes.

    Sorry Bro, there is no Nineties band remotely close to DM, World in my Eyes is totally unique, so I dunno where you get the idea it's got that Nineties vibe.

      Get the balance right over this song? over black celebration and shake the disease? I think to rank these songs and albums you need more time with them, I don´t think a first listen experience cuts it but still appreciate lyour reaction mate
