  • Welcome to Delphi Greece! We are traveling to Delphi, the land of the ancient oracle, where pilgrims sought important advice. We also check out nearby towns of Nafpaktos, and the mountain ski village of Arachova.
The UNESCO site is located on Mt. Parnassus near the Gulf of Corinth on mainland Greece.
Delphi was an important ancient Greek religious sanctuary sacred to the god Apollo. The mythological legend states that Delphi was named the center of the earth by Zeus, and houses the Temple of Apollo, Theater, and the Athenian Treasury.

Really cool video! I am not very familiar with Greece. Your video gave me a better picture of what Greece is like outside of Athens. Thank you for sharing!

Arbitrary Exploration thank you! Glad you enjoyed! There are many more archaeological sites outside of Athens, although some aren’t promoted as much as the Acropolis. More videos in my channel!

Thank you Greece! I hope you enjoyed these mythical landscapes of Delphi. The history of this area is so epic, I was barely able to scratch the surface in this video. For another epic Greek side trip, check out our Olympia vlog: th-cam.com/video/Fx7UWtGrNP0/w-d-xo.html

5:22 Egypt yes of course. turkey no, it didn't exist for an other 2000 years. In Asia minor, nowaday Turkey there were Greek city states. Everything Ancient in turkey that looks like Greek IS Greek. Im correcting this because I know (not all) turks claim that the ancient monuments in their land are turkish, which is the craziest thing ever.

Great video!Trully is one of the best I have seen since you care to learn and explain the history.Thank you for that and please allow me to add some information.Delphi took the name from the Greek word delphini (dolphin ) which was the "animal" of Apollo. Also this temple , before dedicated to Apollo was a temple double dedicated to 2 Gods Gaia-Poseidon.
Also if I may, only one important correction of what you said. At 5:25 you say that Greece had intercultural infuenses with turkey which is totally false.Turkey of course
didn't even exist back then. The ottoman empire appeared more or less arround 1300 A.D and Turkey became a nation less than 100 years ago. There is a time diffrence of 1800 years in the best case scenario. Also all the monuments and ruins in asia minor and further are all Greek because Greek tribes lived there ,even before the Persian empire.Actually arround 1200 b.c, the Trojan War or Homer's "Illiad" because Troia had the name Illion as well , was between greek city states ,as the Trojans were a Greek tribe too .They all had greek names, they spoke the same language, had the same religion and Gods and they had the same customs with all the other city states.
Greece was the first nation in history where all city kingdoms united as one by Alexander's the great father ,king Philip ΙΙ.
    Greek tribes: Pelasgoi, Ionians,Dorians Aeolians,Archaens.

1:29 you're so right. And this much of snow is nothing. more than half of greece is Mountainy with great mountain villages and nature. But as you said Greek touristic agencies and Governments promote only islands.

This video is meant to give you an overview of Delphi and showcase the beauty of a region that most travelers overlook in order to visit other parts of Greece (Athens/islands). I mentioned the countries by their present-day names. If you look at ancient Greece's trading routes, they covered much of the Mediterranean for trade and colonization which in turn had an influence on their art. Unfortunately, I couldn't cover the details of Greece's long and fascinating history in this 6 minute video but Greece will continue to influence and be influenced by the world. Thanks for watching!

Pretty sure she meant Asian Minor, where modern - day Turkey is, not from actual Turks 🙄😂
If you’re such a know-it-all then you should’ve easily made that inference in your own

Good video. Thank you for bothering promoting greek archeological sites. In a next trip you could go to Vergina, Pella and archeant Messini, important archeological sites in beautiful landscapes, which are not very promoted. You may see some photos in Google.
By the way, it's better say "Asia Minor" which is an all-time geographic term because otherwise it could be a misunderstanding using today's country names.
    Excuse my English

You are very good informed and you are interesting also for little details (awesome), but there is only one little mistake.
There was never Turkey until 1922. This country is not even 100 years old ! `Kemal Ataturk` the founder of the movement of the `New Turks` never recognized the power of the Sultan in Konstantinoupolis and established a new country, called `New Turkish State` with new capital City: Ankara. New name for Konstantinoupolis (after ~1.600y) -> Instabul, new Alphabet ->latin... New beginning ! For many Centuries there was `The Ottoman Empire` formed by many nations. Until the Turks began to slaughter all the other nations, Armenians, Jews, Greeks .....except Kurds, (muslims - now they have Kurds problem). The state of Turkey is something very very very recent. Even modern GRE is 101 years older !
Probably, you wanted to say: inspired from Nations who were living in the area of Asia Minor, what today is called Turkey. Delphi for the Greeks is Holly Place and even the word Turkey makes us angry .

Thanks for adding the history! I meant to say Ottoman :) Present day Turkey. The Greeks covered a lot of ground back then!

Apparently there is a train but it operates 1x per day. We recommend the tour mentioned in the description which is how we got to Delphi.
