- Greater Dhaka has a population nearing 19 million people, making it one of the largest cities in the world today.
In this video, I take a walk through historic Old Dhaka. With a history going back to the 7th century, Old Dhaka is a fascinating place to explore. My walk took me down historic streets and an astounding number of friendly people going about their daily lives.
And with the highest concentration of bicycle rickshaws in the world, it's easy to see how Dhaka earned its title as the Rickshaw Capital of the World.

16:05 - Bonus Questions and Answer
I just came from there.
It's an amazing place, isn't it? When I look back at my own videos, I find it hard to believe that this place is real and that I was actually walking around there.
@13:43 i laughed hard, lol
I forgot about that part of the video. 😃 The poor guy got hit in the head pretty hard. And he looked quite upset for a second.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 he is so enjoyed cleaning his nose
this all looks so much like Chandi Chowk in Delhi
You should of use HD camera.... some of your screen blurry vision
Yeah, this camera is quite old. And a lot of the features don't work anymore. I bought it in 2012, and I had one bad accident with it when it smashed on some rocks. So it doesn't work very well now. I plan to buy a new camera soon, and the video quality should be better. Hopefully, the audio will be better, too. 😎
Hello from Bangladesh. Watching your videos in 2020. I noticed and loved that you observe prople very deeply and come up with an explanation and surprisingly they are very accurate. I am learning from you how to observe our surroundings. Be well, Be safe. Best wishes.
13:44 perhaps a sign that he shouldn't be picking his nose?
The flags stores are for the Victory Day on 16th December.
Thanks for your answer. I was wondering why there were so many flags in Dhaka and so many people selling flags.
@@PlanetDoug Did you get any chance to observe the Victory Day celebration in Dhaka
@@shuvoroy7543 I hate to admit it, but I didn't know it was a holiday at all. I went walking around Dhaka on December 16, and I noticed that most of the businesses were closed. Plus, lots of small streets were closed off with ropes, and people were playing cricket. And I saw lots of activity with large groups of children playing games with loud music. People seemed to be celebrating something, but I didn't know what was going on. Later on, I learned it was Victory Day, and that's why everyone was having fun and celebrating.
So, in a way, I did observe all the Victory Day celebrations. I just didn't know what it was all about at the time.
Motorized rickshaws are actually banned in dhaka city area... its common outside of dhaka. Inside dhaka motorized rickshaws are allowed is only allowed for Disabled drivers.
That's interesting information. Thank you! On my walks, I've seen quite a few of the motorized rickshaws still being used, but only in certain areas. I saw a lot of them in and around Chawk Bazar on my walk to Lalbagh Fort. But I never see them in the areas around my hotel.
That old Muslim man, what he was saying was good, he was obviously talking about God, and how God created everything, but the funny 😄thing was how he tried to convince and convert you to become a Muslim.. by asking you to recite the verse "La ilaha illa Allah Muhammad Rasool Allah" from the quran, which means "there is no God but Allah and prophet mohammed is the messenger" I mean its nice of him to try to invite you to Islam, but thats not the way, sitting in a shop, asking someone who might utter the words to get the hell out of the shop, but won't mean anything 🤣
which hotel did you stay at?
