- Flooded corn: A Missouri staple for migrating waterfowl. With new ducks and a freshly flooded corn field, we were able to get in, kill our ducks, and get out. This allowed the ducks to settle back in, giving us many more successful hunts out of the river hole for the remainder of the season. Sit in as the DayBreak crew enjoys an action-packed hunt in the flooded corn of Missouri. #DuckHunting #DayBreak #Banded

“Water swatting doesn’t matter a kill is a kill” made my day to hear that. Heck I’ll pull out my turkey skills to shoot geese in the decoys of a dry field idc😂
haha im with ya!
I'm with you on the water swatting the ducks, even though I'm almost 50 I'm new to duck hunting as well as my 12 year old daughter who's first duck was on the water. There was no way on her first hunt in the first five minutes that I was going to say no to a swimming duck getting shot. Sometimes it's the shot that needs to be taken to keep the future hunters interested.
I know my 2 cents doesn’t really matter but I’m going to give it anyways. I think whether it’s illegal or not is up to the game wardens discretions whether he wants to be a dickhead or not. I have hunting spots in Arkansas and I was told the same thing if we have standing corn it’s not illegal. So we had standing corn one year never threw any out and did it “legally” so they say. My buddy walked into the blind and accidentally knocked some over getting in the blind and a couple kernels was in the blind. Game wardens came in and said we was baiting from the couple kernels they found in the blind, fined us heavily, and shut our field down. They obviously could see that we was hunting in standing corn fields and didn’t throw corn out. So with that being said you say it’s completely legal because corn is standing but what if your dog retrieves a duck and knocks some stocks over or your buddy accidentally runs a couple stalks over on a atv or knocks some over getting into the blind? Then guess what you have corn in the water that isn’t standing therefor it’s illegal. So back to what I said it’s up to game warden. But I think since it’s so close to the edge on being illegal it should be illegal. You can’t tell me you don’t have any corn kernels in the water at all. It’s impossible. Saying it’s legal because your bait is legal because it’s standing on a stalk instead of on the ground is like me saying if I’m in your deer stand I’m not trespassing because I’m up in a tree lol. It’s stupid. Like I said it’s a money thing. It’s not what you know it’s who you blow so if your buddies with a warden it’s ok if your not your illegal.
3:47 there goes that decoy
Awesome video. That spot looks like blast to hunt.
Thanks guys! Appreciate the support!
Great hunt. Cool spot for sure. Question..why do you leave the big open hole in the corn? Seems they didn't mind landing in standing corn. Just for more room to land?
We had a messed up wind this day, they had to basically come over the blind if they wanted to set up right. They avoided the blind and side skirted us. If the wind was right the hole wouldve worked perfect. It helps to show the decoys better.
Not criticizing just curious. Thanks
yup!
Great vid boys
Thanks guys!
What duck calls are you guys using on this video? Real raspy I love it!
i wish there was that many birds down here in crawfordville fl we go out to the coast and tear up the redheads but i aint ever killed a green head
Kolby Dunn never killed a green head? I get tired of shooting them here in MO come late season
Yeah, still ice free in South Louisiana.
I see alot of people mad the duck are real good in missouri and not there state😂😂🇺🇸
You can't remark how wise it is to make adjustments, when no one is making the move to throw some smart grass over some corn stocks and go sit in the corn. Wow. Yall would have been better off setting up to the wind the right way
we had 6 guys that day.
Keep on banging on the fowl. Love the vids
appreciate that!
Hayden Holden 16 are these mallards or blue wing teal? I’m just getting into duck hunting in Texas and trying to improve my ID skills
Could only make it to the club house and hit pause. Bring munny or stay home.
Do you use a dozer to flood the field or have some type of valve to release water?
We use a power unit and a well
A lot of the footage seems zoomed in too much
It’s a great video don’t get me wrong, but zoom out a little on the cam
😘😘😘😘😍
Farming Ducks !
Good work, future is bright... S.I. Jusss sayin
Thank you Nick, we love your music!
Not real sporting to shoot ducks on the water after they have landed! Other than that a good video.
I cant wait for the day this is illegal. I cant throw corn in my pond but yall can do that? Yea ok
You cant wait till what is illegal?
Plant corn around your pond
If you had the money you would be doing it too. It’s all about economics. I have owned 11 Duck Club‘s over the years and it all has been flooded corn.
Hunting over bait ? Isn’t that illegal?
No, if you leave the corn standing it is not illegal
Hummm if we leave rice it’s illegal
It sure is. Its not normal ag. practice to plant a crop then flood it. Just for the purpose of hunting(killing)ducks!
William Durham you are a damn crybaby
The Peterbilt trucker Chuck it’s illegal to throw corn in the water so what’s the difference here?!?
Is it not illegal to water swat waterfowl in most states because I live in Illinois and I've always been told it's illegal--not saying I've never shot a duck in the water because I have but that's what I've always been told.
Nope! You can legally take a duck off the water!
Most people don’t do they don’t risk hitting their decoys or to give the ducks a “fair” chance
No, it is totally legal to kill ducks off of the water
@Nicholas Giorgi im pretty sure you're a moron
QUACK QUACK BITCHES
The 80 year olds that I know and hunt with would never shoot a hen on the water. I turned it off right then. Duck hunting is not about the numbers.........
Corns flooded because the sun used to use the birds eyes to move the weather,, ,now we use dragon x rocket dump chemicals from space and watch them fall flooding the world killing all the trees but hey,its our world not the suns,, ,.jedi 1
Everyone hating on em cause they can't hunt a corn field or rice or any other field. Keep doin what you're doing guys. Nice videos Brandon
Same as baiting to me what's the difference
Maybe a cost of over $350 a acre. Obviously you’re not a farmer
If you can call a duck into your spread you have every right to water swat!
You guys are worried about pushing your birds out, but 3-4 guys always pulling up on singles......
it worked i promise
My rule is if the duck lands before I have the chance to shoot it, it gets to live. Been doing that for a while
Mr. Nick Phil Robertson once said he never shoots a duck while they’re swimming on the water. He says he waits for them to stop swimming then he shoots it.😂
Me too and I never shot a hen Mallard. I mean why would you it’s too easy.
Should be totally outlawed.... No difference in putting out corn than this shit.. You had to put corn in the ground before it sprouted....Hopefully one day this will be outlawed
Not even close to being the same. Obviously you’re not a former I’ve never gone through the trouble and cost of it
Great Video!
Why shoot em on the water boys? Keep it real cmon
we had a 95 year old man with us. Thats all he wanted to do was kill a duck. If you don't like what we do please don't watch. Thanks.
If you can get the duck to fully commit and land due to your decoys calling etc. I don’t see a problem water swatting
This is why we dont have ducks in the south
John Burke How is flooding 100 acres of corn," normal farming practice"?........now they're running electric to fields for their ice eaters......Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas are suffering
John Burke maybe scout better and you’ll find them. Our duck season ended thanks giving
uhh this is in the south...
@@midwestbassin9060 you consider that scouting? Flood a gigantic corn field and cut a little hole out in it. 9 times out of 10 you'll have ducks.
@@bayoustateoutdoors9650 You aren't kidding. We have considerably less ducks here in Arkansas than we did just 10 years ago. I've been duck hunting for 20 years now and it's nothing like it used to be.
These types of operations are reason why we don't have ducks like we used to here in north Louisiana, more power to ya !!!!
Duck hunting here in Louisiana sucks
I've heard a rumor or two that D.U. takes all the money they've raised down in Louisiana up north and. Build habitat for ducks and that was a main reason we don't see as many ducks any more. It's gotten to the point to where I don't even duck hunt anymore in South Louisiana, I just go deer hunting instead now
Send some of them ducks south to Georgia haha
I was trying to figure out when your season opens there at that Dexter part of Missouri cuz I hunt ducks in the southern Zone I know they move the Boot Hill area which is about where you guys are at into the middle Zone and I was not aware that it was open there at the time that you posted the video so kind of curious as far as when it opens and all that that way I can take advantage of something if if I learn something I didn't know. Or maybe this video was from another time frame
This is from last years film! We open the first Saturday in November
@@DayBreakOutdoors Thank you. I was wondering. I will be hunting mid zone near where I grew up in Poplar Bluff this year opening weekend. I know otter slough is about the only CA open that area but holding 90k birds but little to no mallards
Walt Gabvard ???
Water swatting a hen when your in south east MO, "come on man" LOL
The 80 year olds didn't care too much lol
Really on the water. Come on man.
could do without the music.
nervende musik im hintergrund!
No espliq ingliss.mas adorei o video
New to Southeast Missouri. Where you boys at ? I'm in Jackson now but have 400 acres outside the Bluff.
Dexter area!
DayBreak Outdoors Hunting the slough or somewhere else I can’t tell?
Bad ass video...whats the name of the song at the end?
its by nick boemler, its called riverbanks
All these people commenting on shooting ducks on the water have obviously never been seaduck hunting. I love when they land, then I only have to go through 5 boxes of shells instead of 8
YeEeEeEehhawww !!! It's rainin ducks son !!!!
Comment section hilarious. Opinions are like butts, everyone has one.
Everyone complaining about them busting hens but in my experience they taste just like the drakes.
Amen!
We shoot whatever comes in the hole , dont try to pick out what to shoot untill we get a final count on how many birds we like to a limit then we start picking what we need
incredible
thank you!
Invite me
Wish we could!
Old footage?
2017-2018 season
Way to many decoys
everyone has their own opinion
Bassmastersalad your just jealous you can’t get ducks to land. Change my mind
Midwest Bassin landed thousands of ducks lol.
Obviously it worked
We only shoot the green heads. Shooting a hen is called dog training. It's a great way to show restraint and skill.
Shooting right over your dog at 4:01? Not good!
Sympathy for the dog
I love the comment at the end. A kill is a kill. Water swatting don’t matter. Fuck the opinions of these “gentlemen” hunters. They are the same reason a kid can’t shoot a basket rack 6 point and be proud of it when he brings it back to camp. Because of the standards everyone tries to hold themselves to due to outdoor channel.
Killing ducks in baited fields. Can't call it hunting. That's not normal ag. practice, planting a crop then flooding it!
this is normal ag. Not normal ag would be bush hogging it down. 100 % legal. Come to Missouri, the state does it too
Duck hunt game
Someone that says a kill is a kill when talking about water swatting a duck is only after numbers and a line of ducks for the photo. Drives a wedge between them and all of the other ethical hunters out there. Those hunters will leave the channel pretty quickly. I've watched my last video from DayBreak Swatters
What a snow flake😂😂
Water swat is one of the most ethical ways to kill a duck. You’ve put in all the work and called a bird into the decoys. Cut ‘em
This is odd. Why would a farmer flood a corn field? I had thought floods kill corn crops.
To kill ducks
@@andrewn.5117 kill, not hunt. Got it.
@@westpac6954 I didn’t say I agreed with it.
Nice hunt sweet spot, I wish we had ducks in fields here in ct. It's rare to see ducks in corn fields here.
It seems that thats all there is here in Missouri!
@B-Rad Jeezy from Malibu , nice info thanks, I thought about going for a trip but I had a daughter so that has to wait. We have a couple spots like that on long island sound where we do pretty good but it's tough to hunt because of the people around there. All the best hunting areas are where the wealthy live and unfortunately they complain enough and then next thing you know the areas closed.
Another awesome video!!! Can’t wait for our season to start!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Great video and great hunt I’m down here in South Carolina and just killed my first mallard on youth day we have tons of woodies but boy there’s nothing better than a green head locking up in those decoys!
How in the world is this not considered baiting. Strategically planting corn around a hunting blind, purposely not chopping corn, intentionally flooding the field, all in effort to attract waterfowl. Zero “regular” farming practice being done here. It’s a baited field!
Zeke Koonce I’m guessing you’ve never hunted arkansas lol
standing flooded crop is not bait. maybe hunting waterfowl over water is wrong too huh
It is baiting, they need to be fined! But the game wardens and the higher up won't do anything about it. They all probably hunt places like this so they'd be cutting they're own thort....
William Durham you are a joke, having to comment on everyone’s post to make yourself feel important
Lol guess you’ve never heard of hunting “impoundments” aka man made duck holes that have food for them; also provide great hunting opportunities. There is a lot of them in NC you can get drawn a permit for and the state even plants corn, milo whatever they choose all for the ducks. Most people with impoundments only hunt them maybe once or twice a week so the ducks have the opportunity to rest as well as feed for their migration down south!
Swatting and killing hens.. when you value the kill over the sport.
The videos are on piont.keep up the good work👍🏻
Thank you!
Great production of videoes, im suprised you dont have more subscribers
Working on it!
Another great video!
thanks! Appreciate it
Let the haters, doubters and nay-sayers fuel the fire!
Missouri has changed the flyway illinios needs to learn from them
Seems that flyways change quite often!
@@DayBreakOutdoors very true my property used to be great but over time it's changed probably never will come back
With that many birds, why not lay off the hens? and please shoot them in the air, lay off when they are in the water.
Shut up. When they paid for their hunting licenses amd equipment. They can hunt legally however they want.
It looked like an action packed hunt daniel, but it actually took us most the day to scratch out our limit.
3:45 man not the decoy. And a hen on the water.....c'mon now
thanks for the input!
Dead duck is a dead duck. Who gives a shit if it is flying when they kill it? Let me guess? Takes the sport out of it?
Hell nah. I shoot grn heads on the water all the time. I just don't take out the decoys. And nah......I just don't shoot hens.....plenty of green around here....hahahaha guess it leaves more for people like you in the blind picking your nose.....
Kinda rough on them hens
We will kill them when it gets tough.
water swatting? don't shoot them on the water boys. c'mon
The 80 year olds prefer it that way
The treaty needs to be amended. Unnaturally flooded unharvested corn needs to be illegal. It’s just legal baiting.
Let’s be very clear. This is not hunting.
Then what the hell is it. I’ve been doing it for 35 years 60 days a year. Its damn hunting to me and hard work
