Hey Eve, I'm a language student at Oxford too but was granted dispensation from the year abroad due to health problems in 2020. Just here to say that I think you're absolutely right to feel incredibly angry and distressed by how the university have approached the travel situation. The advice is pretty much: exploit every loophole to get to the target country, possibly incur huge costs on quarantine hotels when you want to return to the UK, and then not even have a valuable experience when you're in the country because there's still so many restrictions in place. I think it's disgraceful and hugely irresponsible - no duty of care whatsoever on their part and no consideration of the financial implications for students. Never feel guilty about feeling shit: everyone is as entitled to sadness as they are to happiness. Sending you lots of love and I hope your health issues are resolved soon!

I hate the notion that you can’t be sad because someone is sadder because it’s like saying you can’t be happy because someone is happier. I am really struggling right now with online uni we have barely any teaching, all lectures are pre recorded and they have removed our no detriment that we had last year because this lockdown ‘wasn’t unexpected’??? We also were told that they have adapted assignments to suit the new teaching style but we still had to do group presentations online we love to see it. The only time uni students are thought about is when people are blaming them when so many of us are just stuck in our bedrooms doing uni with no support and paying 9k for the privilege. But I still know that I am lucky to be able to be doing a degree so I feel like I shouldn’t be feeling this way. Apologies for the rant!
Also I have endometriosis and I was put on rigevidon when I was in sixth form to help manage it but it made my mood awful I actually could not cope but it was hard because it helped with my endo symptoms so I didn’t want to come off it but I went back to the doctors about it and they put me on microgynon and it works so much better for me!❤️

I have completely fallen out of love with my degree, with learning, with education in general! It’s so SO hard being any type of student during this, it’s absolutely heartbreaking!

You’re doing your absolute best, and I can honestly relate to hormones and lockdown in general beating the life and happiness out of you! One piece of advice for judgement/hate that has me helped is this: If someone is being judgemental and cruel towards you, you can't really take their opinion to heart as they haven't been there throughout your whole life. You can't really take it to heart because they have seen about 1% of your life so why would you be hurt about someone judging 1% of your life! I graduated Ox in 2013 (so I'm basically elderly for this channel!) but just wanted to say I really feel for everything students are currently going through. Having been through Ox finals relatively recently, I do think they will mark fairly, they just need to get better at communicating this and realising that students are under a lot of pressure and need reassurance sometimes. Please stop reading your hate forums, I can't believe they exist (what a sad little life, Jane...) , you have nothing to feel bad about. I took a year out post-Uni and went to Malaysia for 6 months before law school. It put my law training 'back' a year but was the best thing I ever did. Now I'm in my 30th year, no-one cares if you took an extra year to achieve your career goals - colleagues don't know or care exactly how old you are. Stay positive, you're doing great, and it's nice to see a fellow West Midlander represented!

When all this started we were given a non detriment policy. Now in 3rd year in this new lockdown we haven’t been given another and our uni is saying it’s not a new experience anymore and we basically should be used to working in a pandemic now. Couple that with the fact that we are primary education students and can’t have our final placement in schools at the moment while trying to write a dissertation and apply for jobs! I know how you feel about your uni. It feels like they don’t have a human approach to this and consider the effects on us.

I’m so sorry for the lack of understanding your university is showing rn, so many unis are doing this and it makes me absolutely sick the way they’re not technically in the wrong because they’re not FORCING you to go anywhere but then put such academic pressure on you to go certain places that you’re stuck deciding between putting your own and everybody else’s health on the line or falling behind academically. of course we could have it much worse but that is such a difficult situation to be in and takes such a toll on your mental health, so stay safe and do whatever helps you get through this!! 💓

And the response we’ve had from uni is “well the library is open” and when we were like “but we aren’t about to all travel in from all over the country just to access this software” they basically just shrugged and said it wasn’t there problem and they had done their job as a university to “provide all the resources required” Uni’s just don’t care at this point and no one can change my mind on that

Bethany the best thing to do is to live a healthy lifestyle, as losing just 5% of your body weight can be so beneficial in terms of controlling your symptoms. most women with PCOS are overweight but even if you’re not, It’s still advised to eat healthily and exercise regularly. This is because PCOS is associated with being really insulin resistant, making us more prone to diseases like type 2 diabetes :( so avoiding certain foods like refined carbohydrates is recommended

I hate when people on the internet project their own insecurities onto others and make them feel bad. I want to give my little opinion here: I have been watching Eve because she is so honest and I got a perspective on uni life in the UK, as I kind of always wanted to be there when I was younger. It's been fun. I'm German, way past my student years and have been working full time quite normally throughout the pandemic, so I do see how lucky I am. I feel bad for every student of any age right now. Since those years are quite formative and should also be the most fun time of your life! No one can really imagine the negative effects this whole lockdown thing will have on the mental health and well-being of those young people who probably missed out on so many opportunities during this time. They will not get it back. So yes, you are allowed to feel sad and frustrated.

It is incredibly painful especially when the doctors or society as whole suggests your pain and emotions are not valid. Glad you're seeking support it can be life changing. I went on to desogestrel and I haven't nearly as many issues, hope this helps!x

Videos like this are what is needed right now so... Realistic struggles that everyone has! Preach that all feelings are valid. Thank you for this video- particularly as a student myself who lost the end of her last year, graduation and is missing out on her Master degree in a dance studio with no reassurance that there is a support policy. You Got This!!!

newsflash, we don't CHOOSE to be sad or feel a certain way about something, emotions are emotions and they are not in our control. Emotions are part of the human condition. You should never apologise for it or feel guilty for simply being a HUMAN.

If there was something wrong I’m sure your subscribers would politely call you out in the comments instead of writing on hateful forms, so stop looking at the hate websites because what they are defo just bored people who thrive on putting other people down to make themselves feel better!

Excellent decision. Well done! A year when you are young seems incredibly long but when you look back, believe me, it's just a quick blip that is of no consequence career-wise, especially if you time it well. You should definitely take a good long break and allow yourself to find your own rhythm again. You deserve this.

I was diagnosed with pcos at the end of my first year after being a complete mess for months, I’m not a crier but I would be crying on the daily.. luckily I didn’t suffer from weight gain/ hair growth but my bloods came back with excess androgens. I was put on rigevidon and thankfully I haven’t suffered any side effects, if anything my flatmates said I seemed so much happier! Just shows how it works for different people. Wish you all the best Eve! Hopefully you find a pill that works and start to feel better✨xx

Your emotions are valid, you are valid no matter how much people make it seem like they are less than someone else because their experience seems “worse”! Never disregard the way you feel to make people happy or satisfied of because you feel yours is not “as bad as theirs!” You’re beautiful and strong and you’ll get through this! Will be praying for you sis! 😭😭❤️

I feel like its ok to feel pain for things even if people are going through things that are worse as long as you aren't self centred about your pain. as long as you acknowledge the things going on around the world which you do and try and help out which you have its fine. taking care of your mental health is important and if you don't talk about your own pain your mental health will go down.

Hey Eve, I just wanted to share my experience: I also have PCOS, I was diagnosed when I was 18 and I treated it with the pill throughout my teenage years. I really regret that because of all the side effects of the pill (I got really depressed and my sex drive disappeared completely) and because it just surpressed the symptoms - so not a holistic approach. For me changing my lifestyle really helped me with it, I went vegan over three years ago, I workout almost everyday and stopped eating so much sugar. I am 25 now and have my symptoms under control so much better. I wish you the best and I hope you find a way to help with your symptoms!

    • @MsLivinglegend19
      @MsLivinglegend19 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This ! To anyone watching this, I’ve been working with a specialist and found that controlling PCOS through diet and lifestyle is the best way - birth control largely just masks the symptoms and they all come back once you get off the pill.

I totally agree with not feeling like 'myself' anymore, or should I say my self in the past, but I actually much prefer how I feel now. It has just been very strange feeling like I've suddenly changed/ grown a lot recently.
I think the way I've coped with it is just trying to always find the positives in my changes, such as being more confident in myself and being mentally stronger from what we've all had to deal with (this is probably something we've all grown a lot!). :)

Don't worry about what some people say you can't please everyone nor do you have to. Do what is best for you. Everyone has issues which are relative to their own lives and personal set of circumstances. I lost both Mum and a brother in 2020 which was tough but I totally understand your disappointment in not being able to go to Spain. My issues are my issues and yours are yours and we can all feel saddened no matter the degree of our issue. You should never feel guilty. Hang in there and just do the best you can under the circumstances thrown at you. And tell the haters to sod off.
