One of my favorite lines in the entire Cosmere: You have failed utterly, Hoed. You are not one of them; you haven’t the powers you promised us you’d gain. You’ve accomplished nothing. What beauty is there in this situation?” Hoid stepped out over the pool with one foot. “You do not know me well, friend, so I will forgive such a silly question. The beauty? It lies in the fact that there are secrets that remain unknown.” He smiled broadly. “And I love a good puzzle.”
my current favorite pet theory is Elantris is just Sanderson grappling with the part he played in westernizing east Asian countries (specifically Korea)
I'm a sucker for city building in just about anything, so I had a really good time during the Raiden chapters, also it has a small child brutally murdered off screen because of the actions of the main character, so that's fun. I really like the dynamic between Hrathen and Dilaf, and the part when Hrathen tries to send him away hand me rolling. The reveal of what happened to Elantris is one of my favorites in anything, it's a classic "they pretry much just tell you in chapter one" you just don't realize it until much later.
Hrathen's arc is genuinely so good. Even if the majority of it can feel a bit clunky, i still stand by Hrathen as one of my fav characters across everything
I read Elantris once via audiobook and wasn’t a big fan. But I’m also finding that I don’t connect as well with his works that I listen to. I think seeing the words aids my memory better and helps me form images better in my mind.
I started with Mistborn. Then when I decided to actually dive into The Cosmere I went back and read Elantris. I'll admit I wasn't impressed. It's. Just. So. Gloomy! But having caught up to all the published Cosmere books I do want to go back and give it a second try. Knowing what I know now, and knowing how important and powerful the Dor is. I definitely want to re-read it.
I read this first. I found it a bit of a slog at first, but it really picks up. My second read was on audiobook, it was much more enjoyable. Also ive read everything cosmere, including unreleased... Well ive read everything sanderon, except the librarian books! And the new wiards guide book, i so hope theres a towl Easter Egg in there!!! But ill settle for "DON'T PANIC"
Why read the prose version of White Sand? It’s Brandon Sanderson’s only Cosmere book series to be in comicbook form! If I could draw and afford one or more illustrators on a regular basis, I would write comicbooks myself!
Ill say this being far more pessimistic about it to new readers I find makes them like it more. If you hook them into mist born and the cosmere and lowball it they come out pleasantly surprised which I think is nice.

So going to say this real round about to not spoil for people. I feel like a specific religion in this book is related to the main conflict in Lost Metal.
I read every cosmere book besides this one. But it looks kinda wack so ima skip it. I’ve seen no lore from elantris that means much in any other books so I’m good.
Me, who's read Elantris twice: ah, the perfect video to watch
I figured people who've read it wouldn't mind, and people who haven't might benefit.
Haha I’ve read it over 5 times! (This is not meant to demean you) I love all of the Brandon books

Where is that? I NEED IT

Hrathen looking like Snape is spot on! 😂💀
Pretty sure it's been my visualization since I first read the book.
my current favorite pet theory is Elantris is just Sanderson grappling with the part he played in westernizing east Asian countries (specifically Korea)
You know, totally valid theory.
Didn't he sorta say as much, that Hrathen was inspired by his missionary time?

Exactly. The reveal is so *SANDERSON!*

Absolutely agree. Hrathen is easily top 10.
I struggled a little with Elantris at first, but then the payoff at the end was incredible. I loved it!
Exactly how I felt.

I've heard the audiobook is rough. I'm a print man though, so I haven't confirmed.

The re-read was a lot more satisfying than the first time through for me.

Oh Tony, you've gotta read Alcatraz. They are exactly your type of humor.
love seeing your sub count go up. Just commenting to help the algorithm
Thanks for the bump!

It's definitely not my favourite. But I did read it twice and I never do anything twice. So it's already pretty good.
The re-read is very satisfying.

Ensuring it exceeds lowered expectations.
It's on my list to read. Once I finish the last 2 Mistborn books, it's next up
It's not necessarily great, but it's *solidly* good.
I'd go with arcanum unbound... If you haven't read it...
Is that mistborn era 1 or 2
What have you read??
Was my first Cosmere read, kind of enjoyed it.
It's worth its inclusion, at the very least.
@@TheCosmerenaut Agreed. Not quite as polished as Sanderson's later Cosmere works, but is a good introduction to his style
Elantris is one of my favorites, and the only thing that has ever got me, a person with Autism and a fear of needles to want a tattoo.
Ooh, a tattoo of what?
@@TheCosmerenautif I did, which is unlikely, I would get one of the Aons like Edo.
I'm currently working on rereading Elantris. It's been slow but great.
That's about what my experience was the first time I got through it. It's a lot easier on the second go-round.
Guess who has two thumbs and will now forever picture Hrathen as Alan Rickman?
Thanks for that
Just doing my job.
I love this book so much, but the communication issues during the princess’s trial are mind bogglingly infuriating
That's my main frustration with sitcoms. JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER.
When you spend more time googling the unreleased book titles listed in the video than the actual length of the video...

I've tried it a few times and just can't get through it. Ymmv
It took me several attempts.
Ive always pronounced Hrathan like Nathan 🤷
Dont see him as snape though...more regal sounding and looking to me
He wasn't Snape-sounding to me, just Snape-looking.
Watching your video nearly a year after you posted it to decide if I should use my audible credit to buy Elantris 😂
Well, did I convince you?
Unmortality! 🤣
You never die, but are you actually alive?
I’m just starting Elantris. And because of the hype of this author, it was very disappointing.
disagree. Elantris was a slog to get thruat first
WoK is the most accesible
I wouldn't say WoK is the most accessible; the learning curve for the world itself is *steep.* Worth it, but steep.
Mormons?
Could have sworn they were called Latter-day saints of the Church of Jesus Christ
*The Church*
Nah, Serene is pronounced serene
Yes, it is.

I think it's going to get more and more significant, especially with what we've now seen in Stormlight and Tress.
Shit take this book is so good
