I just want to say I love the way you do your ad reads. I realize they're necessary to keep content creators afloat, but some of them can be just so boring. Your endorsement of the product with inserts of the actual product are great, plus the bar at the bottom makes it so I don't feel like I'm going to sit there forever. Weird thing to compliment, but I appreciate the way you do it. Love your stuff, keep it up!
I actually really appreciate that, and it's great to hear! A lot of people are really resistant to them, which I understand to a point, but hearing positive feedback is reassuring. Thank you :)
I'm new to your channel but I've binge-watched all of your vids for the past few days. I've never been interested to wood-working but now I am! Thanks Bob!
Bob, it's was good you explained how to for people without a CandC machine, you have a good way of explaining and a good presenting style, I have been following for ages but only now commented. Keep up the great work I always enjoy watching your stuff, hi from the UK.
Me either until now. I only used it on the CNC, which cut it like butter. It'd be cool to use it with some other tools to get a feel for it. unfortunately that was the only piece I had :/
You can also use a holesaw without the center bit on a drill press to make the circle outlines, this is how I made mine. Also filled the indent with black tinted epoxy to make it stand out a bit more :)
Couple of other ideas to make it a little easier. You could make the circles on the board using a hole saw. You could drill the hole in a scrap, then clamp the scrap on the board where you want the spot to be, remove the center bit and drill part of the way. For the cylindrical pieces you could use wooden closet rod which most of the big box stores carry in poplar or oak. Also, is the bearing on your round over bit spinning freely? I've had some of mine get caked up and have to soak them to free them back up. All the best and really enjoy your videos!
You could use a hole saw to make the playfield positions too. First holesaw through a piece of scrap wood, then clamp that onto your playfield. Mark the depth on the side of the hole saw and remove the pilot bit. Now use a drill press to cut the grooves. The scrap wood will guide the hole saw and prevent it from walking.
Quarto is wicked fun! And you've given me an idea on how to solve a problem I've been thinking about for a different board game I'm planning on making, thanks!
Hey Bob, On the video it looked like you had a burn mark from the bearing of your round over bit as well. If you put a little drop of oil in the bearing and work it in with your hand that should go away. I have had the same problem before but didn't care because it sands out. One time the bearing got so hot that it plunged into the wood and completely ruined the piece. So i learned my lesson... a little drop of 3-in-1 goes a long ways.
You commented on your roundover bit burning your work piece... have you checked that the bearing isn't siezed? It should rotate individually to the bit and not create friction on the work piece. Hope this helps. Jack
If you had to get the X-carve again, would you get the 12"x12" or do you find the 31"x31" more useful/ necessary. Also do you find that the waste board that you buy with it necessary or could you go out and buy your own to save some money.
They're actually coming out with a medium size pretty soon, I believe. That's probably more reasonable for most people. I have done a couple large jobs where the size has been handy, but mostly, it's overkill. 12x12 is a little too small too though. You can make your own waste board if you're willing to put in the time to make the holes, etc.
"I know not everyone has a CNC, so you can use a table saw". I've never felt so poor, is having a table saw really that common? I was expecting perhaps a hand saw and a simple jig.
Me and my dad are going to build out our unfinished basement. The entrance to the home gym is going to be a hidden bookshelf based on your old video and now we have something else fun to make also
Anytime you wet wood with any finish, the grain will raise slightly. I usually do a light sanding after the first coat to remove that raised grain. This makes for a better, smoother finish in the end.
It looked like the bearing on your router bit wasn't turning. I got a bit from a garage sale once where the bearing wouldn't turn at all, I opened it up cleaned out the bearing and oiled it up a bit and put it back together and it didn't burn anymore. I also found I had to play with how tight the screw was on top. I ended putting some lock tight on the screw for my own piece of mind. Would not want to have that bearing fly off.
Related yet unrelated to the project itself, this raises an interesting question! When people release project videos about very similar builds at the same time, that's just the inherent risk of parallel creation, but what's the benchmark of courtesy when videos are made at very different times from each other, specifically in the maker community? I feel like I've heard that usually, it's fine as long as you present a different technique or improve the designs or put some custom flair on it, but should the....I hesitate to phrase it this way... "original" creator be contacted prior to starting or perhaps referenced in the new video? Are people generally pretty relaxed about it? Does doing a new video on a project similar to one that someone in the same community has done in the past have a measurable impact on views? Just curious of your impressions/experiences! :)
+I Like To Make Stuff just wanted to say thanks for the replay. I've been searching all over for a dust boot i liked and now finally found one and it's on order :) thanks again!!
Sorry if I sound stupid asking this, but if I were allergic to latex, would that be a problem for sleeping on casper matresses, since they contain latex in them??
I suppose it depends on how allergic you are. It's a combined material inside of a casing but I really have no idea. My guess is that yes, it would bother you.
Offtopic - the only gripe I have about the ads that a vast majority of items are US only. I can't get my Casper or my Harry's or my Microjig, do these people realize that there are vast untapped markets like, say, EU?
Hey I really like your work and videos, but at the moment I want to build a floating desk but I don't know how to do it, could you maybe give me some ideas or make a video about it. Thanks alot
NuKe ApEx If it's shallow enough, that'll work just like the floating shelves that I've made. If you want to make it a deep desk, it's much more difficult and you'd probably need to cantilever it through the wall (kind of unrealistic for most applications)
Well, they are sponsoring my videos, let's be clear about that BUT... I chose to work with them because I love the rings and the company values. The ring itself is WAY more comfortable than my metal ring and I don't see myself going back to wearing the old one. I love the QALO ring.
Hey Bob, awesome video as always. I sent you an email through your website, but I'm not sure which is the best way to reach. Also, I struggled a bit with the char. limit. Hope you see my messages, we would really love to get your perspective in our study. Cheers.

I Like To Make Stuff
I Like To Make Stuff you are the best youtuber in the world
I got very inspired so I 3D printed this game and the board is clear with color changing led's in it Thanks Bob
Awesome!
Timo Kapitein gayy
I'm new to your channel but I've binge-watched all of your vids for the past few days. I've never been interested to wood-working but now I am! Thanks Bob!
Excellent! Thanks for watching!
Bob, put a few drops of oil on the router bit bearing when you use it, it will get rid of the burn marks...
Bob, it's was good you explained how to for people without a CandC machine, you have a good way of explaining and a good presenting style, I have been following for ages but only now commented. Keep up the great work I always enjoy watching your stuff, hi from the UK.
Thanks so much!
Er... my OCD is acting up...
CNC stands for Computer Numerically Controlled. Where'd you get "CandC"?
perfect example of why I subscribed to your channel.....getting ideas..cheers
Awesome game! I made the game just this past holiday as a Christmas gift. It came out looking awesome.
Well that looked like a fun project! The round over made dowels was a cool idea!
I like the bamboo base. Looks nice! I've never worked with bamboo.
Me either until now. I only used it on the CNC, which cut it like butter. It'd be cool to use it with some other tools to get a feel for it. unfortunately that was the only piece I had :/
It seems hard to find. I've been tempted to get cheap bamboo cutting boards and make something else out of them. ha ha
Could you get some 3/4" bamboo flooring and glue it together to make the board you want?
I like that you actually demonstrated the alternate noncnc method rather than just saying "it can be done other ways"
I really like how you showed alternative ways to make things!
Good video Bob. I really appreciated the two build styles, it's nice to see options.
You can also use a holesaw without the center bit on a drill press to make the circle outlines, this is how I made mine. Also filled the indent with black tinted epoxy to make it stand out a bit more :)

Really nice project, cool game!
Wedding gift that's 7 years late.... too cool, love it!

I love ur vids, innoveren make these things but I love watching it!
That was pretty cool, Bob! Love the look of it.
That was a fun project. Nice job Bob.
Thanks Douglas!
Great project!! I have been thinking of making a board game.. Never heard of quarto but it seems that I have to look a bit into this game! ✌✌
That looks like fun to build. I have seen this on Steve Ramsey's channel, but woodworkers have different methods
Cool build, thanks for the tips for alternative methods of making it.
Quick down and dirty. Awesome project.
Quarto is wicked fun! And you've given me an idea on how to solve a problem I've been thinking about for a different board game I'm planning on making, thanks!
Excellent!
...what is Quarto???
The board looks great. I have never played the game but having a google now.

I like that background music, good job 👏👏
Great job, I'm going to have a go. Won't be as good as yours though and will take me longer. Love to have access to a workshop like yours.
great project. awesome vid as always. also, I love the countdown bar for the sponsored content. everyone should do this
LOL at 2:39! "Pick me next, pick me next!"
The game board looks great
Very cool game, great project Bob!
Looks like a fun project.
just oil the bearing that way you will avoid the burn marks
This is a really fun game !
You commented on your roundover bit burning your work piece... have you checked that the bearing isn't siezed? It should rotate individually to the bit and not create friction on the work piece. Hope this helps.
Jack
I just watched this and I have to say I really want to make this game
Hmmmmmm....sketchy lathe you say. Time to build one. Add an arduino to yours though.
Hi Bob, do you have a vid all about your CNC machine? I make wooden toys and games and your wee CNC would be perfect for me. Cheers Bro.
If you had to get the X-carve again, would you get the 12"x12" or do you find the 31"x31" more useful/ necessary. Also do you find that the waste board that you buy with it necessary or could you go out and buy your own to save some money.

Your backlog sounds like mine! Great looking set!
I'm kinda amazed that I wasn't familiar with this game!?! Lookin' awesome brethren, good work as always!
Very nice project, I love board games. On a separate note, what was with the face on the piece at 2:39 ?
When do you post the climbing wall? I am very excited
"I know not everyone has a CNC, so you can use a table saw". I've never felt so poor, is having a table saw really that common? I was expecting perhaps a hand saw and a simple jig.
Almost certain you could use a Dremel tool with a milling attachment, would just have to have a steady hand!
I've seen it done with a power drill and a cut out bit - a lot of these projects can be done without the shiny kit if you apply some thought to how
Oh this is perfect & I can even see it in doll size (we love games)
Classy game!
Me and my dad are going to build out our unfinished basement. The entrance to the home gym is going to be a hidden bookshelf based on your old video and now we have something else fun to make also
Awesome!
Nice video. I need to learn that game.
I love your videos!
Please dont stop :(
Thanks, I won't!
Awesome video and a really cool looking game! Lol your lathe is "sketchy" :)
Looks good!
okay question: why the sanding between the tung oil layers? does it help the oil soak in better?
Anytime you wet wood with any finish, the grain will raise slightly. I usually do a light sanding after the first coat to remove that raised grain. This makes for a better, smoother finish in the end.
A 7 YEAR LATE WEDDING PRESENT!!!! How nice
looks easy enough to build. now i was to learn the rules and make one!
Thanks for the tips! Nice !
Great video. Wished you explained how it was played though.
Cool video man.
It looked like the bearing on your router bit wasn't turning. I got a bit from a garage sale once where the bearing wouldn't turn at all, I opened it up cleaned out the bearing and oiled it up a bit and put it back together and it didn't burn anymore. I'll have to check that. These are cheap bits so that's a very real possibility. Thanks for the heads up!!

Nice man, really nice! Just need to learn how to play the damn game :D
It's very simple to play but gets heavy in strategy if you want it to.
Looks awesome! Did you enjoy working with teak?
Thanks! I love teak, it's so easy to work with, super tight grain and beautiful colors.
Check out Tak. New game that has free rules ect and is is a blast to make and play.
It's burning at the bearing. I'm pretty sure it is jambed on that router bit. (The bearing is turning at the speed of the bit.)
Hey bob, love your channel...just wondering, what video editor do you use?
Final Cut Pro X
What video is the clip from in your intro where you are using fire and burning part of a piece of wood?
Really good video but can you make more 3D printing videos?
That looks like the best dust collector/shoe for the x-carve. You make it or buy it?
+Woodworking Geek I bought it from a Kickstarter and it works GREAT! It's called the SuckIt (meh name, great product)
haha. the name is kind of odd, yes, but nice!
Love the vids dude
+NewyGolfKid84 thank you!
Bob.... are you left handed or is the video a reversed view on your table saw?
Yes, I am.
Cool vid...subbed!!!
Try paraffin wax or masking tape on the edges to prevent router burns.
Could you make a wood wedding ring? With a place to put a fixture for a diamond and just a wedding band
Did you make or buy the dust boot on your X-carve? If you made it could you do a video on it or share the link??
I got it from the Kickstarter for www.suckitdustboot.com/ It works great!
+I Like To Make Stuff just wanted to say thanks for the replay. I've been searching all over for a dust boot i liked and now finally found one and it's on order :) thanks again!!
Sorry if I sound stupid asking this, but if I were allergic to latex, would that be a problem for sleeping on casper matresses, since they contain latex in them??
just think about your question...
I suppose it depends on how allergic you are. It's a combined material inside of a casing but I really have no idea. My guess is that yes, it would bother you.
I Like To Make Stuff oh, okay thanks!
Hay Bob, let's see you make a super tiny version of this game.
Offtopic - the only gripe I have about the ads that a vast majority of items are US only. I can't get my Casper or my Harry's or my Microjig, do these people realize that there are vast untapped markets like, say, EU?
No sympathy. You can have our mattresses when we can get your chocolate :)
Is bambo strong? I've never worked whit it.
Hey I really like your work and videos, but at the moment I want to build a floating desk but I don't know how to do it, could you maybe give me some ideas or make a video about it. Thanks alot
+NuKe ApEx did you see my recent video about making a floating desk?
+I Like To Make Stuff I did but you made it on 3 walls I making it along just one wall with no other walls (hope that makes sense)
NuKe ApEx If it's shallow enough, that'll work just like the floating shelves that I've made. If you want to make it a deep desk, it's much more difficult and you'd probably need to cantilever it through the wall (kind of unrealistic for most applications)
+I Like To Make Stuff okay well thanks a lot 🙂
Make a wooden Chess set next, that would be something nice
Have you ever thought about making a crockinole game?
so cool
Do you have a video and plans for your x-carve dust boot? The one I made moves with the Z axis and gives me a lot of trouble
+granachos no, it was a Kickstarter product called SuckIt dust boot. Totally worth a look, works great!
+I Like To Make Stuff awesome thanks
can you make more raspberry stuff please ☺
qalo ring how do you like it been thinking about one what's your opinion on it
Well, they are sponsoring my videos, let's be clear about that BUT... I chose to work with them because I love the rings and the company values. The ring itself is WAY more comfortable than my metal ring and I don't see myself going back to wearing the old one. I love the QALO ring.
Not sure if you want tool sponsors or not bob, but reach out to any lathe maker and if theyre smart you'll have a new one in your garage!
You and grant Thompson should make a video together
Yea that would be awesome!
+Param Vala that may or may not be in the works 😉
thanks for replying
please show how to make giant jenga.
Are you mad at that wood company? you could have just said you had it around :D haha good job man! interesting game1
Hey Bob, awesome video as always. I sent you an email through your website, but I'm not sure which is the best way to reach. Also, I struggled a bit with the char. limit. Hope you see my messages, we would really love to get your perspective in our study.
Cheers.
I think Tim and Justin have a board game collaboration going on just in case your friend doesn't want it, lol
I would like to have your skill in woodworking..I could make big amount of money with this skill
Do you still have a file on easel for this?
Good.
I was watching this video and thought about how cool a wood and glass custom chess table would be.
nice shirt haha
you should make a skateboard!
i have this game!
Cool
