Yes, like a tractor and the plow too. The bisons make the ground soft, so that some seeds can grow faster, they work and fertilize the grounds that they feed on. They will change the landscape and return it to the natural balance, and if there will be too many of them, they are very easy to track and to control, unlike small animals.

They didn't remove the covering - the covering will wear off in the 16 months before they're released from their enclosed paddock - bison rub their horns on trees & rocks + they use them for rooting.
Good for Canada, but one question: why move them in the winter? It would seem that summer would make it easier for them to acclimate -- easier forage, etc.

There are no predators - these 16 pregnant females have been released into an enclosed pasture in Panther Valley [Banff National Park] & they'll stay there until summer 2018. By then the covers [or tape or whatever it is] will have worn off because they'll use the horns for rooting out food & also they have a habit of rubbing their horns on trees, rock etc.
I reckon the horns are mostly for the males to fight over breeding rights & for digging in snow. In really deep snow conditions the wolves have the advantage because the bison travel in 'indian column' [single file] to save energy - usually one of the weaker bison is at the back. The wolves follow the track & pick off that slow, weak one by clamping their jaws on the upper thighs of their target & one wolf grabs the tail. In that situation the hooves can't come into play because the the wolves have 'dead legged' the bison. That's about the only time the horns are useful against predators if the victim can turn on the spot & whip a wolf gripped on the leg into the air with a horn. The rest of the bison herd only seem to turn & attack the wolf pack if there isn't snow or if the snow isn't too deep - if it's deep they forget about the one at the back & keep travelling... One way to control the old timers in the herd - let them got mugged.
alright so some guys drove out there with their tractor and put up a fence (see big fence at the end of the video) why wouldn't they just use a tractor pulled cattle trailer? like oh i don't know a farmer/rancher might use. not as dramatic as a helicopter is suppose
Sadly, they all committed suicide by hanging themselves a week later...they couldn't handle the outside world, things were moving too fast now for them...at least they carved their names on the side of the cliff they hung from so they are remembered forever

I know Bison wouldn't give a second thought about steam rolling anyone in their way, but this is incredibly cute to see them get released.
Bison are generally tame and non aggressive.

Big ass hooves and weighing at nearly a ton? Their horns are their least dangerous parts.
