- We might feel invincible in trying to crush under foot or swat these tiny, pesky creatures that try to sting or bite us, or gnaw our home’s foundation or swarm on our picnic food, but they are astoundingly resilient. Have you ever tried to get rid of crawling creatures from your home? They always seem to come back! In addition, many of these bugs, though they lack great brain power, seem to know how to build elaborate hives and colonies, and protect and feed the babies. How does the ata columbica ant know to cultivate a gray fungus found in only one place in nature; a fungus that can feed their entire colony?
