The cross choke wasn't actually the main move Hobin was training for, he was actually using that whole month to practice the baseball choke. That's why he was doing the motion of lifting the training bag over his shoulder so that he could do that same maneuver to Taehun in the end there
There's a few reasons why Hobin won besides him obviously choking him out and that's environmental control, planned the fight in his favor while Taehun went in blindly, and Taehun was using his non dominant-leg to kick in addition to not taking Hobin seriously at all. I think he even says at one point that he was trying not to kill Hobin
