Attributed to Francis of Assisi: "Lord, what do you want me to do?"
Attributed to Aristotle: "Where the needs of the world and your talents cross, their lies your vocation."
And according to Frederick Buechner, a Christian writer, “The kind of work God usually calls you to is the kind of work
    (a) that you need most to do and
    (b) that the world most needs to have done. …
The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet”.
From the old Catholic "Baltimore Catechism":
"Question: Why did God make you?

Answer: God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next."
(But YOU must explain what is meant for each in your own life today--and again tomorrow. It will most likely change as you get older,
until you are 'happy with God forever in the next'. ;)

@@dominicward1812 If you look back and life was terrible is this because of "sin"? If it is "sin" we must accept the forgiveness God freely offers. "Wash me, O Lord, and I shall I be whiter than snow." In the bible, lots of the greats have sinned--because they are human--and were forgiven--because God loves all creation.

    1. What do I love (what motivates me to do extraordinary things, gets me out of bed every morning, keeps me up at night, that makes me selfless, overcomes fears, and draws me closer to others)?
    2. What am I good at (in what ways has God blessed me with skills and talents)?
    3. What does the world need?
    #1 + #2 + #3 = Calling from GOD
    Thank you.... =)

God ask us to be the best version of ourselves in what we do in daily life. It is not easy to understand His purpose in us, but by doing it day by day, one step at a time, He will leads us into His path. What we need to do is just trust in Him and His process, and stay faithful to Him by doing our best every day, carry our daily cross, of course denying ourselves and our flesh (this one is a hard one), and stay focus on Him. Trusting Him everyday, in every situation that things happen in ourlives for our own good, eventhough sometimes we don't, and can't see where He leads us to. And always believe, that His grace is enough for us.

I go to adoration at our church. I love it.
I'm good at playing golf and most of the time it's just me and God on the course.
People of the world need to know they are loved for who they are, so now that I'm retired I help others with my handyman skills for free and when they ask me what I want in return I tell them all I want is to share a little time with them.

Thanks be to God for this video. I am struggling in what path should I take right now, and with this video I found out that God wants me to teach and lead people. I love and I find joy in teaching, sharing my knowledge and talents, not to brag them but to share them, not to show them off, but to impart them to people especially to children and the youth, to teach not just knowledge and information but also wisdom, values, and right conduct and attitudes that I learned from my parents and teachers, and from the people who love and support me, even those from people who happens to be my enemy or someone who doesn't have a link with me except being my brother and sister in the Lord, and even including the wisdom I learned from other creatures living alongside us who sometimes perform human-like qualities and attitudes that we oftentimes forget to do. I rather struggle on a child I want to learn something from what I am teaching and how she or he can learn better than to be the greatest and richest person in another field or line of profession. I am also willing to share and tell stories about my life and how it can inspire my future listeners' lives especially in how I battle depression and anxiety right now. I especially want to teach that anidst all the pain and hardships there is still hope in life as long as we still breath and as long our heart beats. I am also quite good in teaching and had some experiences with it before which made me love the vocation. I usually teach and help my younger brother, taught my cousins before as a recreational activity and hobby, and taught my other schoolmates back in high school as I and my friends were tasked to assist my teacher in teaching the lower sections of classes while he is so busy with his other works and responsibilities. I also had a chance to be a little catechist back then in around 5th to 6th Grades, wherein I and my classmates teach younger students in 1st to 3rd Grades the basics of prayers and other basic Catholic Catechisms in our elementary school as part of our parish's program. I am also surrounded by teachers all my life with my mom, godfather, and cousin are licensed and practicing teachers and my mom's friends and workmates who are teachers also knew me. Lastly, I see that the world especially my local community needs a lot of things, issues, problems, and concerns to be solved, and I knew I can't solve them all, that's why I see that teaching the future human resource, future manpower, and future workforce of my community is the best way to start solving those problems slowly and along the way, where my future students and listeners and learners will help me solve our community's issues and problems. It is also in my belief that the youth and children are the hope of the future, they are the future active and participative members and citizens of our nation, human resource, manpower, and that they are our future leaders and professionals who will hopefully solve some of our world's problems and issues as we are creating and having new ones along the process and into the future. I know that teaching is a tough, uneasy, struggling, and hard job as a profession, but my love, joy, and vocation of teaching children and the youth will not die. To know that the lives and future of my future students lies on my hands is both a scary and tough but uplifting and joyful realization I will face everyday in my future. I know it wouldn't be easy and blissful, but I am trying to have the courage and hardwork to face it someday, because my mission to inspire, share, and teach is far more bigger than its toughness and uneasiness. Thanks be to and All Glory be unto God.

How do you manage to take concepts that are seemingly difficult to understand--and then make them so simple? As I watched this video this morning, I suddenly realized it was the answer to a prayer I uttered to God just a week ago. May you continue to help others to understand the true love of God--and his call to us to be his "face" of love in this life.

I take off my hat to you. I would just emphasize your point about the things that make us more selfless. We humans will always try to bend our decisions toward what we think will make us happy, not selfless or loving. That is because seeking our own happiness has been ingrained into us since our infancy. God wants us to draw closer to others in love and often that means that we must do menial tasks like unclogging someone else's toilet whereas we dream of giving a piano concert.

    • @splashpont

@@splashpont Because we must firmly establish our highest goal. In the Bible, there was a rich young man who wanted to be a disciple of Jesus. Jesus said fine, sell all your things and give away everything and then come and follow me. The rich young man couldn't do it.
If we look at the needs of the people we want to help, our picture will be distorted if we allow our own needs to unconsciously interfere. We cannot be unbiased judges when we have an agenda of our own.

When we were born we don't know any things in life but we are clean so while you are growing you must learn some things in your life. When your time is up you can go back to your creator if you are clean, unless you become a child you won't enter the kingdom of heaven. ( child no sin, all what you have done wrongdoing in the pass you must come up clean no sin) Thanks!

I love to study religious works, like the writings of Thomas Aquinus and Albertus Magnus, the stuff of a spiritual nature. I can comprehend these things that often stump others, but they come naturally to me. I am also very contemplative, but I have trouble with expressing these ideas in words. I would like to say that I could teach the world about these works of holy men, but explaining and teaching isn't something that comes easy for me. I love Jesus, and I want to make use of the talents he gave me, but how can I do so when I have no avenue of expression of doctrine, and a lack on my part on being able to defend what I know, believe, and love?

You have no idea what you've done to me uploading this video Father Casey. I think about the priesthood. To be fair, I WOULD LOVE TO BE A PRIEST but... I also have dreams about a happy family which I never had. I am 24, I hear all the time ' oh, you're too handsome to be a priest! ', ' oh, you can't be a priest! Can you imagine you, as a priest!?" I do.. but I also imagine myself as a dad and husband. I feel the vocation to both ( I think so ) but the priesthood.. is like I would be happier? I don't know. I am scared, I am scared that I won't be good at it. I love to talk about Jesus, I would love to preach about Him. A few years ago, I just was watching a movie, dunno which one but it was a Christian movie. After that movie, I just started crying, praying and asking God that I don't want to be a priest ( Since I backed to church and I decided to stay in the RC Church I felt that maybe God want me, as a priest but I never took that serious ), I may be a preacher, Anglican priest, a pastor of Lutheran Church, whatever, but I want to have a happy family I've never had. But like a month ago, I think I just gave up, and said to God, okay, I might be a priest, you know me better than I, do whatever you want and I will accept that.
I know one and I am sure of that. God wants me here in Scotland. I've always thought that He wants me here as a normal boy, not a priest, just a boy who will preach about Him. But... It was Him or me and my thoughts? I have no idea what to do. Everything seems like I should try but I worry. I worry that maybe I am wrong. Pray, pray, pray for me, please! I said to myself that I need to make a decision till next Monday. I can't think about it all the time I need to make a decision and start to live the real life, not just think about it and do nothing.

What should one do if he wants to be a priest and their parents are completely against it??

As always Thank you Father for bringing this up. Forgive me if I understood you wrong, but don't these questions lead to our wants and our personal goals instead of God's will. Aren't they what most self-help books and teachings suggest? Isn't the purpose of our life, as Christians, to know, love and serve God?

Yeah, the concept of ikigai was a thing on it's own anyway without the need of a fatherly image that is personal and cares about your cares.

Hey Fr Casey, to answer the first question, I'm a bit like you, in that I love teaching, sharing, and I don't mind public speaking. I think it's in sharing, and conversing, I'm the most whole. :)
And it's not about being the center of attention. It's not about me. I had the privilege of putting together a service at my church. We're a Protestant Church. And it was a beautiful challenge. Writing the main message, organising power-points, working out the order of service.
But it wasn't about me. It was an offering to the community. In fact, serving in that capacity, I almost felt... self-less.
I think that perhaps in these videos you feel a similar thing. In that you speak the message you feel in your heart, but it's not about you. It's about Him. We dissolve into the Spirit.

I love receiving Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, I looove my boyfriend, and I hope he asks me to marry him someday, I love my job as a bus driver and human service provider and I love being a consecrated lay woman. I'm really good at loving Jesus Christ 🙏 in humility as a wife and Mom. Thank you for the reminder. The rest small stuff is just work, but the good stuff is prayers and gift back to Him. God bless you, Father.

I look at the time I'm given in this world as a test by God and eventually I know my time will run out in this world. The test is about what can I do for others the accomplishments which I have achieved in this world will be forgotten the material things which I had worked for all my life will perish. It's not the people that are remembered but rather what they done which is remembered and for most eventually even those deeds will be forgotten not recorded in the history books. The purpose of the time we are given in this world is the test which determines our final destination separating the righteous from the unrighteous.
I look at things as both a Christian and a scientist as such I know that eventually we all perish and eventually this world we live an and all things within this world is going to perish that's inevitable. A depressing way to look at things but grounded in reality. Which is why I believe that the world to come will be in a different state of reality in which the world will not be this world but spiritual like Heaven being that part of life is death and in this new world death will be no more which also means nothing will age or decay which means it will not be this world. And if there is no more night well that also indicates it will not be this world being that the source of light is our sun and if it's daytime all the time that would mean the Earth is tidal locked which means one side would fry and the other side of the world would freeze. So obviously it can't be in this world maybe another dimension which I believe how Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell can be all around us yet is invisible to our five senses and how the beings of these different realities can hear us and see us and even interact with us even though we are not aware of them around us. In a sense as a scientist to be open to discovery you need faith.

Such a "thin place" can be experienced at the Eucharist when "we praise [God], joining our voices with Angels and
Archangels and with all the company of heaven (cf. Revelation 21:3), who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of [God's] Name: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might (cf. Revelation 4:8), heaven and earth are full of your glory" (cf. Isaiah 6:3).
The other side of eternal life surrounds the altar (with us) at "the supper of the Lamb" (cf. Revelation 19:9).
And Christ becomes Present. "Behold, the Lamb of God!" (cf. John 1). We are joined to every living person, past and present, saint and sinner, and those yet to born who are "the body of Christ" (cf. 1 Corinthians 12:27). We are in the philosophical "Now" where past, present, and future are one.

No one said that faithfulness to be who you are called-to-be was going to be easy! But we have a model for that: Jesus falling under the cross and then getting up to carry it again....
