I think, since Jeff is basically a human, and they reach full elder so quickly, maybe the creatures there are able to live far longer than any human normally would he able to. Like centuries, so they get to see far more eruptions in their lifetime because of their lifespan?

I can honestly think all of the creatures stopping whatever they are doing and all the creatures including carnivores, herbivores and omnivores just starting to search for an sheltered area all together just so they can survive through this
