Most importantly, it's effective in formation. It's a lot harder to fight with a sword when you're bumping elbows with fellow soldiers, than it is to hold a spear. Denser firepower is very useful.
1v1 there are solid arguments and techniques that favor other weapons, but no sensible man fights 1v1 when he can help it.

This feels like the 2nd act in a movie or play. The first act was the near death experience Williams faced and him essentially giving up on life until his cabbages suddenly grew. Now we're at the happy middle point in the movie where Williams has not only accepted the post-apocalypse but has come to the point of excelling in it. Nearly delirious with his newfound power, he easily carves through what had been his struggles but a few weeks ago. But that means, as all good movies show, there is a third act to come with a danger that far surpasses what Williams had experienced thus far. What will that experience be?

I really like that spears seem to be correctly represented in this game
most videogames have such a strong "prejudice" against spears or maybe just lean strongly in favor of swords and axes etc. that makes them seem like the worst weapon possible
and holy shit how many horror movies have I seen where the protagonist would fight zombies with kitchen knives etc. the worst possible thing to use except if you literally got nothing
stick em with the pointy end is literally all you need to know to kill something like a zombie with a spear

@@PalaDave99 it's basically the other way around, at least with a short spear because we're talking zombies, not a fighter capable of defending
with "classical" relatively slow zombies you have enough opportunity to get into a good position and the added range enables you to attack from behind furniture etc.
so as long as you're at least a tiny bit agile, you should be fine
it would suck with a wall in your back and a zombie up close but this situation should be avoided anyway and no one said you can't have a hunting knife or something for backup and a sword or axe wouldn't do too much better
a spear is also less likely to get stuck in the skull, which is why an axe for example would be horrible against more than a single zombie

also to add on that getting a stuck spear out is easy push your foot against the zombie and pull, with an axe stuck it's possible you don't have the angle to get it out
at least while wood splitting it can be relatively hard to get the axe out and it's not gonna help that the head you're stuck in is flexibly attached to a neck ;D
it's mostly hypothetical but that's how my logic would make the spear preferable in 90% of situations

I don't know enough about medieval history to contest the spear's claim to fame in total kill-count, but if it's the case that the spear has a tough time getting past full plate body armor, then in that kind of warfare, it's not the best weapon. Especially in something closer to 1v1s (or skirmishes, consisting of lots of 1v1s), I've been told that most kills were achieved by knocking down and grappling an opponent so you can shove a long, thin blade between the plates.
The frequency of those situations would be I suppose what determines whether or not the spear or the good ol' *dagger* actually has the most kills.

You know, you need to do a 'co-op' collab like this, having your genetic dead end character try his best at not being a genetic dead end vs a cycling genetic lottery winners that try their own success attempt alongside you, but at a different part of the map.
Say they're Riverside, you're not, and how much would they die to due to overconfidence in their characters capabilities vs you who is far too cautious to succeed not starving to death.

I don't often say that, but i really appreciate your innovation on game narration content. It brings back the spark of storytellers of old when they narrated the state of mind of characters in a fable to be of the same importance as the fable itself. A lot of that has been lost on entertainment industry due to overuse of image and "funny faces". But you kept the joy of ages past in your content. I can only hope that more would get inspired by you, much love and appreciation, hope this message finds you well and bring the happiness of labor recognition in your heart.
