Good evening! Thank you very much to everybody for getting the channel to 2,800 subscribers - do subscribe if you haven't yet, it really helps me out to make more interesting tours, and I have some exciting plans for the near future too :) Now for some bonus info on Seahouses: we mention around 13:11 about Chathill station, the nearest station to Seahouses. However, the village was once home to its own station, which was the terminus of the North Sunderland Railway, which stopped at North Sunderland and Seahouses on the route from Chathill. It was a short, independent line, but it closed down in 1951, and the stations with it.
@@popazz1 It seems that the North Sunderland Railway was one of the few lines that actually ended business of its own accord - before Dr. Beeching could get his axe to it I imagine! But maybe he had some part in the closure, he certainly had quite the impact :)
I remember traveling there must have been 10 at the time, and the corrugated building at the platform end was the cinema (roughly where the present day carpark toilet is)
My grandma lived in Seahouses from 1987 til 2016. I have fond memories of the place, I have had many fish and chips there over the years. Nice to see the village in recent times
It's a lovely village - and I'm sure you have some wonderful memories of Seahouses from over the years - those fish and chips can't be beat either :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
It really is a wonderful place to visit - and those ultra-fresh fish and chips can't be beat :) You're certainly right to love Seahouses! Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
There are lots of amateur travelogues on TH-cam, many of them quite a disappoint. This feature on Seahouses is one of the best I've seen. It's created in a professional manner and, unlike some offerings, give a wealth of information about where one actually is and what the significance of that section is. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Thank you so much! That's so kind of you to say, and I'm really glad that you enjoyed this walk around Seahouses :) There's a lot of history and heritage in the village, some on display for all to see and some that needs a little bit of looking harder to catch - but I'm delighted that you found the information about Seahouses interesting! Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
I love seahouses, My great uncle murray used to live in a small fisherman’s cottage , he was in a wheel chair as he had lost his legs below the knees. Taught me to paint in the early 1970’s. every time I go back the smell of the sea and the open fires brings me back to being a child.
Those are some wonderful memories! Seahouses certainly seems to have that magical seaside atmosphere, and your stories of your family in the village by the sea really do conjure that up better than anything :) Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video, and I'm glad it brought back some nice memories of your childhood!
These videos are little gems. So informative and educational. This isn't just someone walking about, the research is meticulous and so well presented. Thank you.

Brought back so many memories. We used to go to Haggerston Castle holiday park every year when the kids were young. Bamburgh and Seahouses were our favourite places to go on a day out. That gift shop on the corner is an Aladdin's cave! Great video.

Thank you for a most interesting walk around Seahouses. You really have the knack of bringing out the character of a place in your films. The font and size of the captions is just right too.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - I really love visiting places like Seahouses which, as you say, have a distinct character - there's certainly a lot to say about it on a walk around the village :) Thank you very much for your kind comments on the video presentation, I've had a bit of trial and error over the past few months and I think the balance is right, so that's really wonderful to hear!

Thanks for a really good tour of Seahouses. Used to come here lots with mum and dad when we were kids and stayed at Mrs Moles guest house and she also I think had a fish and chip shop on the main St. So many great memories of Seahouses thanks. I have just subscribed
You're welcome! And thank you very much for watching and especially subscribing - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back some nice memories for you of Seahouses, which I'll certainly agree with you is a lovely place, particularly for a family trip :)
Coming from the City of Sunderland, I can confirm that the name of 'our Sunderland' is derived from 'sundered land', in our case land 'sundered' or parted from the church. The original Sunderland was on the south side of the river Wear, whilst the church owned the land north of the river in what is known as Monkwearmouth. Loved the video, and have visited Seahouses many times.
Thanks for confirming that! It really surprised me when researching the history of Seahouses that the 'Sunderland' name came from a different root to the city on the River Wear :) Thank you so much for watching too - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, Seahouses is a wonderful place!
Holy spirit talking about memories I was there back in 1995 and I miss southshelds and the old metro centre shopping mall with the old funfair inside Newcastle and Ottersburn in Northumberland
I'm glad that this video brought back some memories - and I'll add some of your other former stomping grounds like South Shields and Ottersburn to my list of future destinations to visit :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed this video!
It really is! With some of the views out to sea and looking back inland too - Seahouses really is a spectacular little village in a spectacular part of the country :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
I can understand why! It's a gorgeous village with so much to see both in the centre and further afield - plus this part of the Northumberland coast is about as stunning as England gets :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
beautiful video you've shown me bits of Seahouses and North Sunderland I disnt even know existed thank you! I miss Northumberland soooooooo much it is such a special and very spiritual area ♥️♥️♥️

@@LetsWalkUK you're very welcome! I really enjoyed the video it brought back memories of sitting at Seahouses Harbour eating fish n chips admiring the view and what a view!
You can indeed! A trip out to the Farne Islands is certainly a great thing to do while in Seahouses, but that view from the benches over the harbour can't be beat either :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice walk in the village on a sunny day 😎. I enjoyed it. Your walks are always enjoyable. And your history lessons are always great. The village looks beautiful and historical. Can't wait to see more soon. How is your week going? My week is going great. Have a great day 😀
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Seahouses is a delightful village full of history and some glorious seaside views too on this sunny day :)
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Seahouses is a real hidden gem of the Northumberland coast, and certainly worth a visit when you get the chance :) Thank you so much for watching - I hope you have a great time in Seahouses when you visit, and that you get as lucky with the weather as I did on this gorgeous afternoon!
Nice video.... lucky you had a nice day.... I have been diving off the Farne island.... with the seals.... ( not the American military)... stayed in seahouses. Nice place.
Thank you so much! I was so happy to have had such lovely weather when I visited Seahouses on this day - the weather forecast said it would be thunderstorms then! Diving off the Farne Islands with the seals sounds spectacular, the wildlife off the Northumberland coast is really amazing to behold up close :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Aww loved this video we go at least once a year absolutely love all this area all the way down some great we villages, amble being one. Love whitley bay south shields jarrow Hepburn just all lovely places not forgetting tynemouth and all round about. Really enjoyed this was down this way last week and really enjoyed it. Thank you 😍
Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the video - I can understand why you return to Seahouses so often, and touring the Northumberland coast up from Tyneside is an absolute delight :) Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comments!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Seahouses is a delightful village and certainly feels wonderfully peaceful in places on a gorgeous sunny day like this :) Thank you for watching and especially for subscribing - it really helps the channel!
Thank you for the video most interesting. I've driven by it many a time as a driver with National Express. In October we're going to sandy bay caravan park that's when we will go to seahouses x
You're welcome! Thank you very much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, Seahouses is a lovely place to stop, and I hope you have a great time there - though it's a lovely place to drive past too on the bus :)
It really is worth a visit! There's a direct bus from Berwick every couple of hours that goes through Bamburgh and Seahouses on the way to Alnwick, so it's easy to get to on your next holiday, and there's a whole lot to see :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Seahouses really is a lovely place, and a great way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon indeed - I'm sure you had a wonderful time back then :)
Nice walking tour of Seahouses thank you. Can I make a small correction? While Swallows Fish is based at the site of a very old fish smokery and is a wonderful shop, the home of the kipper was just round the corner. John Woodger's Yard was actually on land between Union Street and Taylor Street, behind Braidcarr Cottage (18 Union Street).
Interesting to know! Apologies for the error, it's not something that came up in my research of Seahouses, I think you might be more knowledgeable than most on the subject :) Thank you so much for watching and for your helpful comment - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Another well presented and informative video. I could almost smell the smoke house, kippers were a real favourite with me until I reached my 40s/50s. Then almost overnight they became impossible to eat due to the awful heartburn which invariably followed after eating them! Haven't had any in an age. One thing I didn't notice, or rather two, namely litter and graffiti, and how often can we say that? Steadily working my way through your collection. Guisborough next methinks. I had my first proper job interview at Guisborough Hall after leaving school in 1977, as a trainee junior butler no less. I was overwhelmed by the place, being an ordinary Boro lad from working class roots. I wasn't taken on, lol. Ho-hum.
That's a fascinating bit of personal history there - shame about not getting the job at Guisborough then, and I hope you harbour no grudges against the town :) It really is a lovely place as I'm sure you know - just like Seahouses! And even if you can't be eating kippers anymore, the smell of the smokehouse is certainly a real delight! Thank you so much for watching and for your wonderful comment - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :)
@@LetsWalkUK ... I'd have likely made an atrocious butler, lol. I don't 'do' subservient. Oh and lots of foods give me heartburn nowadays, especially anything smoked. I just pop the Rennies after I've eaten, hahaha. Right, I will sit back and view the Guisborough video.
That sounds like a lovely trip! I'm sure the pups had a lovely time by the sea - and I hope you and your husband did too :) Seahouses certainly is a lovely place, but it is often a little calmer than many of the other big destinations on the Northumberland coast - but that only makes it more lovely! Thank you so much for watching - I really hope you enjoyed the video!
What a lovely town! I remember the Grace Darling story from a past video. I think you said she died at the age of 26. Too young. That dog barking gave you a bit of a jolt, I think.
It really is a lovely town - perhaps not quite as grandiose as Bamburgh, but definitely a delight to walk around, and full of heritage like the Grace Darling connection. She may have lived a short life but she certainly hasn't been forgotten up on this part of the coast :) Thank you so much for watching and for your eagle-eyed perception, I think that was quite the fright I got from the dog bark, strange as I have a dog of my own at home!
I know the place well and you're video really made it shine. Can you tell us what recording gear you use ...I thought it might be in the description. Thanks
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Seahouses is a place that really does shine (especially on such a gorgeous and sunny afternoon!) As for recording equipment - it's a fairly simple setup, I use a GoPro Hero 8 Black attached to a small hand tripod which I carry around town :) Thank you so much for watching and for your very kind words!
It invented how to make kippers, at 79 i know this, the old sheds are to the right of harbour looking at the sea, probabley gone now. Good Luck to all the Douglas's!
Thank you very much for the suggestion! I'll make an effort to put a bit more detail of the churches in videos in future - is there anything specific you or your wife would like to know about churches?
I attended cub/scout camp in Seahouses, during the early 1960s. The hostel was close to the town centre. Does anyone here know if the hostel is still there, or where exactly it is/was located?
Oh no! It would appear that my research has let me down a little on that front, but thank you very much for pointing it out :) Thank you for watching - I do hope you enjoyed the rest of the video!
Thank you very much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - it was indeed a hot day in Seahouses but that made it even more delightful to walk around the village centre - I loved it! Thank you for watching and your kind words as always - it means a lot to hear!
Ha ha - I can tell you that it's a lot of work keeping your eyes on the cars and lamp posts etc while walking with a camera :) What you didn't see here is that I actually stumbled over a bench on my first attempt at filming Seahouses - all fine though! Maybe I'll release an outtakes video some day! Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
I visited Seahouses a month ago and must say it is quite a noisy village. We walked along the seashore to Bambourg. This was nice. But kipper is not very good, too much fat and the taste is also not great. I like fish and chips more.
Good evening to you too! I'll certainly put Bournemouth on my list of future videos - though it's certainly a long way from my main area of work in the North :) Look out for the video in the future! Thank you so much for watching - I do hope you enjoyed this video!
Seahouses has lost its quaint look of the 60's as i remember it as a young boy . My grandad had a caravan on the Seaview , which was completely open with grass and a view to the sea . That has been ruined , it now looks hideous and built up . In fact that whole front part is awful , lost its character and beauty completely forever . . . .
Just come here for a few days. What a dull and nondescript place. Granted, weather not great so doesn’t help, but this is like a ‘poor mans Cornwall’ Only 2 pubs open... both extortionately expensive and a ghost town after tea time 😑
It is quite a dull place, I have been visiting there for the past 23 years because my grandma lived there. There isn’t much to see and do, but the sea air is a bonus

You can indeed! A trip out to the Farne Islands is certainly a great thing to do while in Seahouses, but that view from the benches over the harbour can't be beat either :)
Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Absolutely loved this walk, Seahouses is now on my list of places to visit
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Seahouses is a real hidden gem of the Northumberland coast, and certainly worth a visit when you get the chance :)
Thank you so much for watching - I hope you have a great time in Seahouses when you visit, and that you get as lucky with the weather as I did on this gorgeous afternoon!
Diving off the Farne Islands with the seals sounds spectacular, the wildlife off the Northumberland coast is really amazing to behold up close :)
Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the video - I can understand why you return to Seahouses so often, and touring the Northumberland coast up from Tyneside is an absolute delight :)
Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comments!
Thanks for the tour.
You're welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :)
Another nice walk thanks...really peaceful i have subscribed as well.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Seahouses is a delightful village and certainly feels wonderfully peaceful in places on a gorgeous sunny day like this :)
Thank you for watching and especially for subscribing - it really helps the channel!
Stayed at Berwick a few weeks ago and didnt manage to get here. Worth a visit next holiday. I think. Thanks for sharing.
It really is worth a visit! There's a direct bus from Berwick every couple of hours that goes through Bamburgh and Seahouses on the way to Alnwick, so it's easy to get to on your next holiday, and there's a whole lot to see :)
Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Just subbed to your channel !
My late parents had a caravan at Eyemouth many years ago, many a Saturday afternoon was spent in Seahouses! Lovely town
Apologies for the error, it's not something that came up in my research of Seahouses, I think you might be more knowledgeable than most on the subject :)
Thank you so much for watching and for your helpful comment - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
Good video and informative. Well done
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :)
I went there about 6 or 7 years ago now... husband and 2 doggies...sad that on a lovely day it's not busier.....
She may have lived a short life but she certainly hasn't been forgotten up on this part of the coast :)
Thank you so much for watching and for your eagle-eyed perception, I think that was quite the fright I got from the dog bark, strange as I have a dog of my own at home!
I know the place well and you're video really made it shine. Can you tell us what recording gear you use ...I thought it might be in the description. Thanks
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Seahouses is a place that really does shine (especially on such a gorgeous and sunny afternoon!)
As for recording equipment - it's a fairly simple setup, I use a GoPro Hero 8 Black attached to a small hand tripod which I carry around town :)
Thank you so much for watching and for your very kind words!
It invented how to make kippers, at 79 i know this, the old sheds are to the right of harbour looking at the sea, probabley gone now. Good Luck to all the Douglas's!
When on your walks my wife would like to see more details of the church’s
Thank you very much for the suggestion! I'll make an effort to put a bit more detail of the churches in videos in future - is there anything specific you or your wife would like to know about churches?
The plaques which include the religious affiliation, e.g., Catholic, CofE, Methodist, etc. Thank you for taking us to these beautiful places.
SHOW US HOUSES BY THE SEA - THATS WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE
I attended cub/scout camp in Seahouses, during the early 1960s. The hostel was close to the town centre. Does anyone here know if the hostel is still there, or where exactly it is/was located?
The mine was never a 'War Mine' and nor was it donated to Seahouses. It is around 20-30 years old an only 'on-loan' to the Seahouses Village Lights.
Oh no! It would appear that my research has let me down a little on that front, but thank you very much for pointing it out :)
Thank you for watching - I do hope you enjoyed the rest of the video!
GREAT VIDEO SURE DO GET ABOUT LIKE WATCHING THEM U HAVE THE SUNSHINE I BET IT WAS VERY HOT STAY SAFE LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT ONE
Thank you very much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - it was indeed a hot day in Seahouses but that made it even more delightful to walk around the village centre - I loved it!
Thank you for watching and your kind words as always - it means a lot to hear!
Great walk - however do you stop yourself walking into things?
Ha ha - I can tell you that it's a lot of work keeping your eyes on the cars and lamp posts etc while walking with a camera :) What you didn't see here is that I actually stumbled over a bench on my first attempt at filming Seahouses - all fine though! Maybe I'll release an outtakes video some day!
Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
I holiday here most years
Lovely video - what time of day was it filmed?
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - as far as I recall this video was filmed between 4 and 5 in the afternoon a few weeks back :)
I believe that Craster kippers were sent to London by train, for the Dorchester Hotel. I wonder if there is anybody who can confirm this?
I visited Seahouses a month ago and must say it is quite a noisy village. We walked along the seashore to Bambourg. This was nice. But kipper is not very good, too much fat and the taste is also not great. I like fish and chips more.
thats good but my favourite city is bournemouth. i really want to see it. I hope one day i will . Good evening bro
Good evening to you too! I'll certainly put Bournemouth on my list of future videos - though it's certainly a long way from my main area of work in the North :) Look out for the video in the future!
Thank you so much for watching - I do hope you enjoyed this video!
No trees at all
So there’s trees in actual fields he just went round the streets
Seahouses has lost its quaint look of the 60's as i remember it as a young boy . My grandad had a caravan on the Seaview , which was completely open with grass and a view to the sea . That has been ruined , it now looks hideous and built up . In fact that whole front part is awful , lost its character and beauty completely forever . . . .
Just come here for a few days. What a dull and nondescript place.
Granted, weather not great so doesn’t help, but this is like a ‘poor mans Cornwall’
Only 2 pubs open... both extortionately expensive and a ghost town after tea time 😑
It is quite a dull place, I have been visiting there for the past 23 years because my grandma lived there. There isn’t much to see and do, but the sea air is a bonus
