About this time 11 years ago I was on holiday in Gurnard (where my mum was from) and she was taken very ill and rushed to intensive care and the Red Jet meant I got to spend maximum time with her before she died. Love that boat (not so much when it’s ploughing toward me at 35 knots and the Solent is busy mind you 😂)

A full tour on a cruise ship.... when you see what spaces there are that the passengers will never see, you immediately have videos for a whole year, Nick! But the fact remains that every ship, private or commercial, is always interesting. They all remain unique copies and you make it understandable for everyone.

Holy simoleons! Thrusters that will hold her in position in 45 knot crosswinds? Insane.
I've spent a bit of time riding SF Bay Area high speed ferries. And diplomatically quizzing crew on technical details. As we know....curiosity is appreciated by crew...but often impedes their ability to get the job done and run a safe vessel.
Mucho appreciado Nick. This project must have consumed a ton of time and the fact that you got this "get" is testament to your breadth of skills. Dealmaker....Cap'n....and appreciator of tech, power, and SPEED. 👋

I like the fact that it is all on one level being as I am stuck in a wheelchair. I wonder if anyone has converted something like this into a 40 meter super yacht, you certainly have the deck space to have amazing berthing and crew cabins and all the extra spaces for distance cruising, derate the engines, reduce by 2, who needs a 40 knot super yacht. I imagine properly configured you could get 3000 Nm range, we are seeing a lot of older hulls revamped and in some cases lengthened, sounds like a fun project.

Well.. You have certainly peaked the curiosity of a lot of your subscribers (me included) to the commercial aspect of a life on the ocean wave. I found it absolutely fascinating. Tell me have you ever toured any luxury yachts with the jet engines, I know they build them in New Zealand.

That was beautifull. If I ever get to the net worth bracket alowing purchase of personal yacht, i will want to get repurposed ferry - possibly even like Red Jet you showed us. It is safe, full of redudancies/backups, it has raw strenght of speed, and PLENTY of passanger space, to remodell into luxury suite, or into whatever the owner will pay for. Only problem might be max range on full fueltank, being not enough for ocean crossing, but that can be solved.

Speedferries ran Dover to Boulogne about 30 years ago. Allegedly, they stopped because the other ferry companies undercut them. It was a very fast cat. Brilliant

Very interesting Nick, thanks for that.
For a few years I used either the Hoverspeed Cats from Dover to Calais or the one to Boulogne every weekend to travel to Belgium before I moved here full time, great to see how their smaller sisters operate and what's under their skirts 😉 When those services were cancelled I went on to the Norfolk Line Dover to Dunkirk route and my little car stuck between all those HGVs great times!
First time I took my wife to be to the UK was on the cat from Calais, Happy days :)

As a Sotonian ex pat it's great to see Southampton, in the rain of course, as per usual... QqTerrific to see the ins and outs of the ferry. We have very similar inter-island ferries here in the Canary Islands, also aluminium, made, if I'm not mistaken, in Australia of all places...

Would be interesting to see a video where someone has taken a vehicle like this and refurbished for private usage. The manufacturer would do well if they had a base model which could be added to by a yacht refit company. Would make a great toy for someone rich.

Nick, I’ve just visited Brixham and a tour of the beam trawlers would be amazing. The kit these carry and the pure work horse of the vessels is outstanding. Neil Watson is a fantastic tour guide of the Brixham fish market also which would be great for people to see the they do once the fish is landed.

I reall like the idea of the equivalent of a hand brake return on the open water in a cat.
I really enjoy these different films (can you please do ones on skyscraper cranes and also a super tanker).

Thanks Nick for making this video for us. I live around nothing but land in the United States and we don't have water around us to get to have a boat like that. If I had a older boat like that an I'd have all new engines put in, remove the 200 plus passenger seats then build cabins in that big open space the seats were at. I bet it would be awesome to have about 4 or 6 bedrooms or 8 to 12 total for family and staff if needed. Having a comphy salon with a big screen tv, and perfect country kitchen or called a galley on it. I wonder what the total distance would be if you only run the boat at 12 or 15 k. Turn a passenger boat into a full family boat. I mean each cabin would have big windows and not just a porthole to look out of. I bet it would be awesome. I seen people turn older cargo canal boats turned into their homes. An one guy went so far out of the box of normal and took an emergency rescue boat without a motor and built him a really nice tiny house on the water. Another Great video you made buddy. I could talk all night about boats, i love them.

Thanks Nick for doing a tour of something I see a lot of.
A cruise ship tour would be very interesting as I we have done a lot of cruises. What about a lifeboat. You could try asking if you could look over a Type 45 destroyer, a carrier would need a long video.

Fascinating very safety conscious, with all the systems on the bridge and engine room. Back up and more back ups with glimpse if familiar items such as blue battery boxes or Humphrey boat balancing system. But the best is Nicks reactions to the biggest engine room I've seen. Splash and dash to refuel - love it. a very impressive well planned room tgat meets the needs if the services. Shame you couldn't have a drive😂
