So in theory if you raising alpacas for the fiber too make clothes the quality of feed you feed them will determining the quality of fur the alpacas produce. ?
Tashia: Learnin so much from your videos. Can you recommend what to do with short alpaca fibers, I am assuming they are #4 part of the shearing. I am a beginner spinner and this video was excellent information that I should have viewed before buying raw alpaca fleece. I have learned a lot from my mistakes but lets face it. You can learn a lot from mistakes. Thank you, thank you.
I use my short alpaca fiber for felting projects, like dryer balls and felted soaps.
What would 12-14 yr old unprocessed alpaca fiber that’s been separated into the different cuts but has been kept moth free and in a temp controlled storage locker. Worth per lb? I see so many prices online. I have like 600lbs of it that was left to me after my mom passed and I’ve Been told it was still good so I don’t wanna throw it away or give it away for nothing but I want to sell it at a fair price would you have a price range that you would maybe suggest please I don’t want to ask the person that offered to drive 8 hours to get it to high of a price but don’t want to give away what my mom raised for so long and also paid to keep this wool safe. Thx for any info.
What percentage of Merino would you suggest blending alpaca with?
Love your videos! I have come across a company that sells insulation from alpaca fiber for homes. Do you know how many alpaca fleeces it would take to do this?? I am seriously looking into having an alpaca farm for this!
Great information, thank you! Is there an efficient way to remove the longer, thicker primary fibers from the fleece by myself or does this step require a machine? I have quite a hairy fleece which I card by hand - it was already washed and it is very soft and fluffy. However, I don‘t manage to spin a soft yarn from it and now I noticed the thicker hair in it... can I somehow turn this into a soft yarn?
You’re welcome. You can remove the primaries by hand during the sorting process when the fleece is still intact. Take a section of the fleece with the fibers still aligned. The uncut end will have the primaries sticking out. You’ll be able to identify them and pull them out. Unfortunately, once the fleece has been jumbled up, like during washing, dehairing needs to be done by machine. Or with tweezers and LOTS of time.

Can you recommend some good places to buy alpaca clothes? gloves, hoodie, etc. my wife can make anything, but doesn't have a lot of time now.

Greetings. How do I stop my garment from shedding.
It sounds more like an issue with the yarn that was used for the garment. Either the twist was not high enough for the grade of fiber used or the staple length is inconsistent. If it is the later, as you continue to wear and launder the garment, that will slow down tremendously. Personally, I have not found it common for alpaca items to shed.
