Selfish love , selfish promise. And the most selfish character of this movie was mastani . She even didn't think once before breaking a happy family. Bajiro and kashi were happy together after when he returned from bundhelkhand. But selfish mastani was crazy for him and thought herself his second wife in her own silly assumption, because of little missunderstanding . She forcefully entered his life . She seduced him and emotionally blackmailed him by portraying herself victim.
I would disagree and this is my opinion, I understand if you don't agree with me. I believe it wasn't entirely Mastani's fault. As anyother human, she fell in love and Bajirao fell in love with her too. Yes, what happened with Kashi Bai wasn't fair Bajirao and Kashi got married when they were kids. At that time, Kings used to have eight wives. Of course, Kashi was hurt and that's sad. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with Mastani and Bajirao's relationship. Kashi and Bajirao married when they were children, their love was forced so of course Bajirao's first love was Mastani. She was his first true love. And their marriage was political by the way. Bajirao wasn't a bad person, he respected Kashi even after being with Mastani. He didn't just leave her alone. Following Bajirao's death, Kashi Bai fostered her step-son Shamher Bahadur whose mother was Bajirao's second wife Mastani. Polyandry was normal back then. There is so much we don't know about that time period and what actually happened, it's wrong to assume.

My point is yeah I understand when you fall in love with someone,you can't control your heart but you have a brain to take right and wrong decision. if your love is really pure then it's not necessary always to stay together specially when love is one side and a person is already belongs to someone. You can love him/ her from far. Masatani didn't even knew if Bajirao love her or not(until she entered in punna) Bajirao and kashi may didn't married because of love , but there's still love between two of them ,as husband-wife love,friendship love. They were still happy together until mastani entered their lives. Mastani didn't even care about her own dignity and self respect ( she was princess )and was ready to be mistress of someone else. She portrayed herself as a victim and emotionally blackmailed him. Yes he didn't leave kashi alone because of society and reputation but kashi kept distance herself from her cheater husband coz she had her dignity and self respect. If it were kashi in his place ,he would have never forgive her. It's bitter truth of our society that men can do anything on the name of love, power, position but women can't.

Please choose your words wisely. But whatever, this movie said and whatever it represented , please also remember that there are many events that took place and there is so much from that period we don't know about. So it's best not to assume and immediately judge.

I love the character of kashi. in this movie.
Everyone commenting about kashi and how unfair it was for her, and I understand that, I really do. But here are some things to consider, at that time period it was a culture to have more than one wife. Shivaji maharaj himself had more than one wives. At that time marriage was forged to strengthen their kingdoms and to have heirs. Also when they got married, bajirao was only 11 and kashibai 8 years old. I don't think any of them had any say in this match. The thing is, if bajirao had married another brahman woman besides kashibai, his family wouldn't have had any problem with it cause it was the custom at the time. They had a problem with mastani because she was muslim. And because bajirao gave her respect. I feel for kashibai, I really do. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy that had bajirao peshwa married another women of same religion and status, none of his family or peers would've batted an eye, instead they would've welcomed her. But they treated mastani like trash because of her background. (I mean look at our mythology. King dashrath had three wives, lord krishna had 16,000, and draupadi had five husbands.)

Where's the question of cheating on Kashi? It was a polygamous society. The historical Peshwa Bajirao did marry Mastani. She was a princess. Kings and nobles those days had multiple wives so judging Bajirao and Mastani by todays standards makes no sense. Kashi brought up Mastani's son after Bajirao and Mastani died. She wouldn't have done that if she had been jealous.
@Shreya Rubetha good point. Bansali's film is based on a work of fiction, Rao, about the so called forbidden and passionate love of Bajirao and Mastani. So we'll never know if she was just a wife like Kashi or his one true love. Like Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jehan, though Shah had many other wives, he only loved Mumtaz. Don't forget as Commander Bajirao could have many beautiful girls to romance with 😊
