    Our favorite fruit tree! Did you know fuyu persimmons could grow in Washington? When are fuyu persimmons ripe? How do you care for persimmon trees? Well, here in Western Washington, the fuyu persimmon does great and doesn't need much care. They get ripe around Thanksgiving, although you'll need to pick them and bring them inside for a few days to soften and sweeten up. We love this tree!

    "no bugs bother it" in my case I have at least found that June bugs will eat about half a leaf at a time.
    I'm here because I'm looking at scaffolding/trellis ideas, so I'm glad to see yours. Mine is quite young. It's just on a bamboo rod at the moment.

    We have a farm in Marshfield Missouri. My tree is just 2 and already producing. We have very mature, wild, North American Persimmons on our farm and something we have noticed is the one year on, one year off; so it does not surprise me the oriental varieties do the same. Thanks for sharing!

    My uncle had an American type of persimmon and my mother would eat the fruit when it was soft. She tried to get me to taste it, but I thought it was nasty looking and would not try it. The first time I tried Fuyu persimmons, I did not know what I was eating. I fell in love with the taste and the texture was firm and slightly crunchy. Now I am looking for a tree to add to my garden.

    The best moments are when a mess becomes fun. Love these moments even when it is a big mess. One day, way to soon, you can have a clean house, it might be just before you are too old to clean house, but the things you will still be laughing about & remembering the most, will be the big messes that made those you love the MOST HAPPY. We don't remember any awards for keeping the cleanest house on the block, or get a thank you, when picking up the dirty socks or how many times we did the dishes better than any other human on earth & the laundry was all caught up on the same day. You can sit in a room all alone with your memories, & the best memories will be the laughter & the messes we made as we explored & discovered something new or used our imaginations. It’s ok to be clean, but it can take all the fun out of life if we don't keep track of our time & energy & use it on the things that bring joy for a lifetime.
    LIFE IS NOT ABOUT WHAT WE DID WRONG, it’s all about what we did right & if we turn the wrong things into a lesson full of love & understanding, even our wrongs will turn into something right & it will last MANY GENERATIONS.
    If we take a child’s wrongs & put our wrong actions on top of that, it only teaches humans to be ugly, hateful, & abusive & THAT WILL LAST MANY GENERATIONS. We can correct & DISCIPLINE IN LOVE. We can discipline with love, but we need to tell the child;
    1. I didn’t want to discipline you. I love you so much,
    2. I’m disappointed that you made the wrong choice, but
    3. I did tell you, if you don’t stop I will have to punish you.
    4. Make sure they do understand that you hope they never forget you love them, &
    5. maybe next time they will lean to make a better choice, because this will hurt you, far more then it will hurt them.
    6. these things help young minds to know love & that a punishment is not out of hate, because HATE will destroy humans or any forms of life.
    Love can heal anything, if we use our love & not our hate. Anger creates hate & hate creates anger.
    Discipline is better done without spanking, but if you feel you have to use spanking, keep anger far away from it. Children want to make us happy, Anger never helps anyone.

      I had squirrels also, damaged everything on my trees. I use the Squirrelinator trap now. If you buy one make sure to buy the one that has the "water tight travel pan"(PC labeling for Dunk Tank) included. You should see the trap and the travel pan both in the picture, if the tank is not in the picture it is NOT in the box. Model #90000. Available from www.ruggedranch.net & www.squirrelinator.com . Rodents will ruin everything! They also make the Ratinator, which I use in the barn.

I don't know that much about all persimmons but did this with Tanenashi and they were excellent! once they thawed I would just bite a hole in the skin and suck out the pulp like a jello shot! lol

    I think it is great that you didn't 'thin' out the fruit, Ive seen people do that and I don't get it, your tree may need to be supported but look at all those friggin Fuyu Persimmons! And isn't that what it is all about?? Those are my favorite too!

  • @Rinsuki
    @Rinsuki 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That is because it's overbearing. In order to avoid this you have to remove some fruit this will help the life of the tree until it is way older in which it can produce hundreds. This happens to blueberries as well. Heavy croppers cause alternate years of bearing a lot then a little or sometimes none at all skipping a season.

      You may need to graft a scion onto your seedlings. If you know someone with a good tasting persimmon get some cuttings from them.
      Get the cuttings in the middle of winter (November) when their tree is dormant (when the tree is sleeping and all the leaves have fallen off). Scions the thickness of a pencil are good. Wrap them in a barely moist, squeezed-out-as-much-water-out-as-you-can, paper towel or sphagnum moss. Seal them in a plastic zip-lock bag. Store them in the refrigerator (Not the freezer!) Crisper drawer. Leave them there a few months.
      In the spring when your tree has woke up and has a few leaves open and growing is the time to graft the scions onto your trees. This is a different timing than for grafting peaches, plums, apples, etc... So do not graft any earlier, you must wait for the persimmon to be making leaves. The sap has to be flowing. Otherwise the cuts between the scion and the rootstock will dry out and not grow together.
      Persimmon wood is very hard. Too hard to safely split with a razor knife. So when you split the branch to insert the scion I recommend using your pruning clipper to split the twig. Watch some grafting videos, buy some grafting tape (Buddy Tape is the best, but expensive), and good luck!

    Had never seen or heard of this fruit, but after watching some videos I try it and the fruit is sweet. Does the fruit has seeds? The one I ate didn't, or at least I didn't see them. Can you tell me where I can get a tree. Thank you

      As long as there is not another variety of persimmon nearby to cross-pollinate with, there will be no seeds. If there is cross-pollination, then there will be seeds. You can mail-order one from One Green World: onegreenworld.com/product/sweet-fuyu-2/

      Yes some do have seeds some don't. I'm in California and I have 2 mature 17th and 20th years old ... Both are loaded with fruits. Last year my 6th years old grand daughter sells it during the holidays @ $1:30lbs .AT winco $1:99 lbs.... Boy I'll tell you it didn't last long lol. 2 weeks every thing gone.. $600 Christmas money for her... not count the fruits we ate and handed out to family and neighbors.

      This is called a Sweet Fuyu persimmon. The lowest temperatures we have are usually in the 20s Fahrenheit. We do not cover it in the winter. The weight of the fruit is probably about 1/2 lb each. They are pretty big! We bought ours here: onegreenworld.com/product/sweet-fuyu-2/

      Hi, yes, we picked about 140 of the fruit before that freeze. Only the ones that were starting to turn orange, just to be safe. They are ripening inside. We still had even more on the tree, so we covered it in plastic the best we could, ran an extension cord and a lamp out to it. It seems to be ok. So sorry your fruit didn't make it! Let us know.

      They are self pollinating! If you only have one, you'll have seedless persimmons. If they cross pollinate, they will have seeds - at least that's what I've heard. So far ours are seedless.

      Maria, good afternoon. My name is Yuri I live in the North of Donbass, it is 50 degrees north latitude. I also grow persimmon, I have 90 chromosomal persimmon seedlings from Indiana, the bark doesn’t crack, unlike the virginia from 60% chromosome. This year, for the first time, I had three trees blooming on which there were female fruit flowers. And on the same tree were only male flowers, which immediately after flowering, all sprinkled. Fruit flowers tied fruit- (before flowering, I watered all the trees), but after flowering, stopped all watering. I do not know whether it is so or not, but there is an opinion that when the fruit is still a small watering it is necessary to stop, otherwise the tree can shave off the fruit. I do not water the trees now. When the fruits grow up around August, if there is no good rain, watering will resume. Also this spring I made several inoculations of Eastern, more large-fruited persimmon. Several fruits remained and grow. If the tree does not fold them, I want to see what kind of fruit, the owner of those cuttings said that the fruits are almost square and carry up to -28C in winter. Here is my video, really in Russian. There you will see three cuttings that I have planted. One in the root neck of the seedling and two cuttings in the crown. th-cam.com/video/hd0sk1EcqME/w-d-xo.html

      We're in the the greater Vancouver area. Do you have new shoots of green leaves growing? If you look closely next to each leaf, you should see some tiny, tiny blooms just forming. I'm seeing them on my tree now.

      @georgehigdon4974 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I live between Orchards and Brush Prairie. The new leaves have a yellow cast to them. I'll have to go out and look closely for tiny bloom buds.

    • @TheQuarterAcreHomestead
      @TheQuarterAcreHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our leaves have a yellow cast as well. It happened last year, too, and I think it is normal. Persimmons usually have a heavy-bearing year, and then a light-bearing year, so I'm thinking we won't get many persimmons this year. Most (maybe all?) of my blossoms are dying and falling off this year so far.

I wish I could let the lower branches grow but due to the coyotes this was not possible. Now I have to use a ladder to pick the fruit.
