Hi data nerds! 👋 Data visualization and storytelling make an interesting part of a data analyst/ data scientist's job. In today’s video, I’ll be walking you through some of the worst (and common) mistakes in data visualization I have encountered in my career. Designing an effective data visualization needs both art and science (perhaps more art than you would like to admit). With this video, I hope to help you avoid the most important mistakes that you might encounter daily at work, and how not to be fooled by those 😉.
I hope you enjoy this video 😄. Let me know if I missed any important mistakes in the comment below 👇

Just a glance of perspective: much of the advice in the video is strongly recommended for business presentation, but most of the time, like in journalistic articles (for example), the "bad practices" are consciously used to reinforce biases or manipulate opinions. So when you see a bad visualization, think twice about its real intention.

    3:35 😂 I totally agree, Thu Vu 👏🏻
That's a beautiful topic indeed: giving the audience the opportunity to grasp the logic underlying a chart because that's actually what we all look at before we comprehend what's written/visualized. At the end of the day, we all want people to absorb ideas quickly.

Great explanation of best practices. Sometimes labels of axes are not necessarily good and having values in thee chart itself is much more effective like in bar charts with many bars.
Also what did you use to get the scrolling viz? This is very interesting 🤔

Good video, thanks - summed up a lot of the points I was making to someone today, so I could have saved myself some time!
Could I make a plea on accessibility? Drop the music - it’s really distracting and makes it difficult to follow your points, especially for people with hearing problems (ie anyone over 30 😅). Just as with white space on a page, a bit of a gap between sections would really help!
