Of course it is expensive when you live in the capital city. However, I just checked rental apartments in Bålsta and immediately found one for 5.000/month. I would say that it is worth it to move 50 km out from the city center. The communications are excellent and considering what you get, I would say that it is also very cheap in the Stockholm area: 930 kronor for a month, unlimited use in the whole metropolitan area.

The cost of things that you are listing in your video is very typical for what we would spend in the US for the same services and products. So from my perspective, it doesn't seem expensive at all. And compared to some US cities, the costs you are listing is actually cheaper in Stockholm (for example: rent in New York, LA, San Francisco, and Washington, DC for a one bedroom apartment is far more than what you say it is in Stockholm). I've heard that Norway is actually the most expensive Nordic country to live in, not Sweden. So I guess my point is expensive is a relative term.
Yeah, basically in absolute costs Norway is way more expensive. But in terms of cost compared to wage after taxes Sweden and Denmark are more expensive then Norway. That's why Norwegians cross the border in the thousands to shop in Sweden and Denmark, but Swedes travel to Norway to work in our service sector by the thousands. Pretty much every restaurant here has at least one swede working here. And Swedes are common in stores too. Construction is dominated by people from Poland. We got a lot of Danish doctors. And so one and so forth.

@@aneshalove226 They will. Although our prices are very volatile. Basically our currency changes in value depending on the oil prices. So something locally produced can have the same price throughout a year but potentially change in value by 3-4x in that year or for imported stuff, our currency might drop in value and suddenly you have to pay 3-4x the amount in local currency for that thing that you did before. (3-4x I'd obviously a huge swing and don't happen often, it's usually way smaller, but I'm using that amount as an example to get my point across). So at one point we might be way more expensive then anyone else, then suddenly we're just about equal to a somewhat expensive place in the US or Europe but with other countries actually being more expensive all of a sudden, and then we're back to being more expensive again. All depending on what's going on with the oil... Most of the time Sweden and Denmark both seem very cheap to us. Although with the market fluctuations there's no guarantee that any one product is cheaper in one or the other country at any one time. But there are trends. Meat, tobacco, alcohol, high sugar products etc are almost always more experience in Norway then the other two countries, because of taxation on those things.

All the nordic countries have a lot of support systems in place to ensure that you will be ok if you are living here. But it might be tough while waiting on said systems to kick in. In Norway for instance you have to pay taxes for a little bit to get the right to use our welfare systems. That in turn means that you need a work permit and tax card I think? And that in turn will require a residence permit. (It doesn't have to be permanent, but might have to be long term).
The apartment thing is more of a problem for the bigger cities. Same with the prices. And now they’re talking about making rent based on the market...which probably is going to make rent a lot higher 😳 Btw, your workmate was just being a bastard. Us swedes tend to be distanced, but when you get to know someone, you’ll have a close and deep friendship for life :) Aaaand...Sweden’s not a socialist country, its market capitalism with high social standard and safety net :)

They were more like today’s Vänsterpartiet. :) People probably are, that’s what the system brings. No one wants to build rental apartments, they want to build apartments to sell. So they raise rent until normal people can’t afford to live there anymore, then build new expensive condos instead. Btw, prices are high...which in part is because of that workers get decent wages and since the owners don’t want to make less of a profit; they raise the prices instead.

It may depend on from which country your dentistry degree is. Some countries medical degrees are not automatically accepted in Sweden. It might be accepted here, or you might need to study a bit more for your degree to be accepted, or you might need to get a whole new degree. I don't know from which country or which degrees this is applied to, but I recommend looking it up if you're interested.

Research has shown since many years, that people in crowded place need to keep a distance to the masses. Ask your coworker what happened. Maybe her boyfriend called afterwards and she felt she had to see him. Sweden isn't a socialist country. The main party in this area are the socialdemocrat, thats a mix between social liberalism and socialism. Sweden has also changed a lot towards capitalism. Firstly the main factories were moved abroad in the 70ties. Secondly many vote for capitalism. So now many children with needs don't get care 24h, many elderlies have to continue to work even 80 year or go homeless, the grocery stores are closed one by one in the country side the last service. I just had new information about the municipal service available, since I work as nurse, and it cuts upon cuts, so our patientens, where should they go. Also a tip for getting friends. As you said many live here without even learning the language and this usually comes with your attitude of being very critical. So many start critizing you immediately. Many also turn to their own language to cut out the original inhibitants. Others that learn the language and the culture and show appreciation, say it's not so hard to come into the swedish society.

I'm hoping to move to Sweden completely alone and knowing no one jst to start afresh in life so I'm prepared to learn the language and hopefully as least start a degree in London by the time I arrive as I won't have anyone to fall back on. I'm considering buying an apartment but have to do a lot of research! Any advice is welcome!

Although our prices are very volatile.
Basically our currency changes in value depending on the oil prices.
So something locally produced can have the same price throughout a year but potentially change in value by 3-4x in that year or for imported stuff, our currency might drop in value and suddenly you have to pay 3-4x the amount in local currency for that thing that you did before.
(3-4x I'd obviously a huge swing and don't happen often, it's usually way smaller, but I'm using that amount as an example to get my point across).
So at one point we might be way more expensive then anyone else, then suddenly we're just about equal to a somewhat expensive place in the US or Europe but with other countries actually being more expensive all of a sudden, and then we're back to being more expensive again.
All depending on what's going on with the oil...
Most of the time Sweden and Denmark both seem very cheap to us.
Although with the market fluctuations there's no guarantee that any one product is cheaper in one or the other country at any one time.
But there are trends.
Meat, tobacco, alcohol, high sugar products etc are almost always more experience in Norway then the other two countries, because of taxation on those things.

But it's more just the whole having a government that actually backs you up part that makes it worth living here.
Living in a country where people and the government actually cares...

Definitely. I can't think of anywhere else better for raising children
All the nordic countries have a lot of support systems in place to ensure that you will be ok if you are living here.
But it might be tough while waiting on said systems to kick in.
In Norway for instance you have to pay taxes for a little bit to get the right to use our welfare systems.
That in turn means that you need a work permit and tax card I think?
And that in turn will require a residence permit.
(It doesn't have to be permanent, but might have to be long term).
Are there Swahili speaking people there? It’d be relaxing to hear Swahili amidst everything there?

The apartment thing is more of a problem for the bigger cities. Same with the prices. And now they’re talking about making rent based on the market...which probably is going to make rent a lot higher 😳

@@aneshalove226 well, kind of...social democracy, which in the beginning were more like socialism, but never really there. They were more like today’s Vänsterpartiet. :)
People probably are, that’s what the system brings. No one wants to build rental apartments, they want to build apartments to sell. So they raise rent until normal people can’t afford to live there anymore, then build new expensive condos instead.
Btw, prices are high...which in part is because of that workers get decent wages and since the owners don’t want to make less of a profit; they raise the prices instead.

The safety net is quite sparse, its reputation is much better than the reality. But varies considerably from state to state and town to town.

very wrong you created at the end. many Swedes do not have houses or accommodation in Spain. we are not a socialist country, we are a capitalist country, if we had been a socialist country your hair would not have cost SEK 2,000 or SEK 1,000 for your eyelashes. but we have strong unions and the same job the same salary. young people who have their first apartment have saved up 50000 euro in stockholm usually a couple who work for 5 years and lived at home with their parents

It may depend on from which country your dentistry degree is. Some countries medical degrees are not automatically accepted in Sweden. It might be accepted here, or you might need to study a bit more for your degree to be accepted, or you might need to get a whole new degree. I don't know from which country or which degrees this is applied to, but I recommend looking it up if you're interested.

Many think that others workers are not allowed a living level wages or that someone else should pay for school, healthcare, transport etc. Stockholm is a capital, all capitals are expensive. Swedes usually find friends throug your interests, so join one of the very many associations for so many interests. You're trying to talk to people on the street in big cities. Research has shown since many years, that people in crowded place need to keep a distance to the masses. Ask your coworker what happened. Maybe her boyfriend called afterwards and she felt she had to see him. Sweden isn't a socialist country. The main party in this area are the socialdemocrat, thats a mix between social liberalism and socialism. Sweden has also changed a lot towards capitalism. Firstly the main factories were moved abroad in the 70ties. Secondly many vote for capitalism. So now many children with needs don't get care 24h, many elderlies have to continue to work even 80 year or go homeless, the grocery stores are closed one by one in the country side the last service. I just had new information about the municipal service available, since I work as nurse, and it cuts upon cuts, so our patientens, where should they go. Also a tip for getting friends. As you said many live here without even learning the language and this usually comes with your attitude of being very critical. So many start critizing you immediately. Many also turn to their own language to cut out the original inhibitants. Others that learn the language and the culture and show appreciation, say it's not so hard to come into the swedish society.

But it's ggetting harder and harder, since we're moved into capitalism. So the tiny house and shared living is rising for the working class. I'm glad I'm not young today.

Worth shopping around the nordic countries for the right immigration laws for your needs.
There's slight differences involved, and once you live here and have a citizenship it's fairly easy to move to any of the other nordic countries.
