Schiphol was one of my favorite airports to fly into. Highly professional controllers and their English is impeccable. Some say they are easier to understand than Boston Controllers.
I really do appreciate your videos, please continue making them for as long as possible. They’re very entertaining, insightful and educational and I enjoy watching them. Greetings from germany
Glad you like our capital! On the channel ‘Not just bikes’ you will find a lot of interesting videos on the difference between North American cities and Amsterdam. It’s from a Canadian guy who lives in Amsterdam. Anyway: nice video! Greetings from The Netherlands!
Just to add some context to the arrivals at Schiphol. Where the security level of the departure country is not up to our standard or a 100% check is needed, is when you get to go first passed security and then into the main terminal for non Schengen flights. The USA has a security level that is on par with EU so you just enter the main area from there you go to reclaim where you first pass border and then customs. This only applies to non Schengen flights with Schengen flights you just enter the terminal and either go to reclaim or go to the border control point that sits between the two areas.
Also enjoy those Milka candy bars. Bought them in Germany about 20 years ago, then found them at a international store on the West Coast. Enjoy your new car!
My home country, next time if you can go to a Albert Hein supermarket and get your wife some of thier chocolate, as good or better than Verkade. Nice to wee you eating frites with mayo as well, not many Americans like that. great video
It is interesting and fascinating to hear you break down your duties like this. The other TH-cam pilots don't go into so much detail. It's interesting that a training captain was now flying the triple 7 for the first time. I thought that once you switched aircraft you get bumped back down to FO. Or is it because he was already working at for several years as a captain at Kirkland Airlines? I also find it fascinating that he switched from Airbus to Boeing. I often wonder about whether or not pilots held type ratings across aircraft companies like this and what it took to maintain the status of your type rating.
At this (and every United States Airline I know of) it’s pure Company seniority that determines what aircraft and seat you can fly. No requirement to fly a plane as a FO before Captain. Thank you for the kind words. I try to keep it down to earth
Your effort into making these is definitely noticeable, I am a huge fan of your illustrations on the jeppesen charts, it really adds to the story. Out of curiosity, why did you sell your car/ whats your short-term verdict vs the Hyundai
@@geekontheflightdeck Say no more... even if the Hyundai would be the better car (which I don't know if it is), that's a significant difference. The Chevy looks pretty neat, don't have it here in Europe
Hello Darren, student pilot here, I had a quick question for you: Do airlines in the states track a pilots radiation exposure? I just finished watching pilot Pascalklr’s video on what you should know before becoming an airline pilot and he mentioned that at his airline the company has a tracking system for radiation exposure, specifically because his flights take him over Greenland. Love your videos!
Thanks for the kind words. I think radiation is more of an issue near the poles. My airline does not track it. We do have ozone scrubbers and I wear long sleeve shirts to limit my exposure.
Got randomed at MKE on the last day of my IOE on the E175 last week, was wondering if I could make it all through IOE without getting randomed but it wasn’t meant to be.
Quirky question Darren, but inspired by the ironed shirt mention - if you spill on your shirt, will the airline pay for the hotel to launder/dry cleaners, or is that on you? I'm assuming you always take a second shirt.
Hi Darren, how old were you when you switch to become a pilot from IT hardware. I work as a Data Analyst and scheduled my first Discovery flight. Thanks.
I was 29. After your discovery flight get a FAA 1st class medical. You only need a 3rd class but better to qualify for a 1st class now than try later and hit a speed bump.
That’s so weird about Amsterdam how it doesn’t have a sterile hallway for international arrivals. What do you do, just follow the signs like you would any other time?
How many cars have you had since being married? My grandpa is a car addict and has had 31 cars in 50 years of marriage... he just bought an ioniq 5 and he's already trading it
Being married? Cadillac Catera, Toyota Matrix XRS, Acura TSX, Mazda5, Toyota Prius (Bought for my wife and I got her old Prius), BMW I3, Tesla Model 3, Smart ED, Bolt, Bolt EUV ("free due to Original Bolt recall), Model X Plaid, Ioniq 5, and now Chevrolet Equinox EV. The Model X Plaid is my fun car. So 14 in 22 years but really 13 because one Bolt didn't count. Longest was my Model 3 and i3 each for 4 years. Shortest was the Ioniq 5 at 7 months. Yeah I have a problem. Glasses are cheaper. Ha.
@@geekontheflightdeck September 2022. Exit the plane and follow a route that has no access to a restroom until you go through passport control. Collect your bags and then you exit out to the public side. There could be some confusion with my 2023 trip to FRA. Flew into CDG 5 times post 2005.
@@geekontheflightdeck It all depends on the origin of the flight. If the origin airport meets the criteria, the passengers are seen as properly checked. Very nice and interesting videos.

Wow. Thank you very much for your kind words and support.
You gave a nice summary. Enjoyed this one too. If you get a flight to amsterdam next month. I can show you around. Keep em coming…

Congrats on 40 lbs! You look great
Yay!!! Another Darren Byrd video!!!
And not London 😂
Love the videos bro. Work for SWA and can’t wait to transfer to fly some big planes

That’s so awesome that your daughter is in marching band!!! I did it when I was in high school, percussion. I was in the pit or front ensemble.
You know it’s a second job for us driving her around to practices and events! She plays the trombone.
You went over my roof by waypoint RIMOL 😮😆👊🏼

The Hyundai is fantastic but I was spending $540 a month on it. More than I need for an airport/secondary car. The Chevrolet is $187 a month all in.

Fun fact - Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has an elevation of 11 feet below sea level.

Can you also do videos on your car like the tesla and the equinox
How many pairs of glasses do you usually take with you for a trip?
5-6 on average
Put up a review of the equinox I heard they got some smoking deals on them !
I just might do that. I scored a heck of a deal
Did I understand you correctly, cabin crew don't get meals on your airline?
Correct.
"Yeah, But" makes sense, there's a T at the end. Yeah buddy? for YAHBT? 🤔

I’ve never used them sorry
definitely YAPBT

INBRD. Inbred. Some will day it's inboard but....I believe it's in Alabama so....
Not much containing your excitement about the "lovely lady" you dropped off first ;)
what app do you use for your parking and taxiway charts
Jepp FD Pro

All flights at Schiphol airport are international. There are no domestic commercial flights.
Does FAA require one pilot under 60 even on 3 or 4 man crews?
I believe it’s recommended not required
