I found this movie on a video store shelf many years ago and when I had watched it I thought, “Hey, this is the plot of that Michael Chrichten book I read a long time ago!” Never got around to re-reading the book but I do have a copy of the movie in my DVD collection.
I've read the book twice and it's an enjoyable read, definitely more dry but it's good; I have no issue with it being male dominated considering the subject matter, and women weren't treated well in years past, it just shows how very far we've come. The movie is great , I watch it every year. Nothing can compare to Herger laughing in battle when the Wen come with the fire dragon, though there are so many great scenes; the oracle scene and the language acquisition bit are top notch. If you haven't seen it, do.
I was one of few chosen at Concord Mills Mall in NC that got to do a test screening for the movie 😁👍
Love the movie. Will have to check iut the book. Thanks!

I think the fact that the book is a revisiting of "Beowulf" is an important point that you might have mentioned.
He's trying not to spoil it, ;)
