Some of our laws make no sense. Convicted felons like him can run for political offices despite not being able to vote (though depending on the state, this may only apply only once they start their sentence). Though that can be a good thing (like one of the Central Park 5 getting elected to Harlem’s council of representatives after being exonerated), it allows actual criminals to subvert the justice system.
