Rescuing those dogs shows a beautiful and caring soul. I have read about his life struggles and wish him all the best. I hope he manages to overcome his addiction to drugs. I also read that after being disqualified from the 2020 Iditarod for testing positive for meth, he went to rehab. I wish there was a video of him arriving with those 21 dogs, that must have been spectacular to see!

Have to say what a wonderful transition from the world of drugs and alcohol to a man of honor and integrity

neil grinder the two don't have to be mutually exclusive. Addicts have huge hearts and care a lot, so much that it's usually somebody betraying them or hurting them in some way for them to even begin using. I guarantee you lance was and is just as humble and good natured as he ever was.

I know what you're saying and agree, but I think it's fair to point out the people I've known who've been alcoholics yet at the same time are the best human beings around.

I'm not a Lance Mackey fan but he earned my respect for this. What a story and you can tell Mr. Janssen's dogs love him since they didn't leave him. I was happy and relieved when the reports came in that his dogs were brought in, not to mention pissed that no one else went back for them. Hats off to Mr. Mackey

I'm in tears listening to this report. I heard about it during the race, but to see this video now. Wow to 2 great mushers and their dogs.

What an awesome guy lance is , he cares more about his dogs and the well being of others than himself , I hope he beats cancer snd the struggles he faced and from all the interviews I’ve watched he is a very humble man that loves his animals and people 🙏🙏🙏 god bless him for caring about this man like a brother and making sure he was ok ✝️✝️

Moral of the story is all you hear is the negativity that Lance Mackey has went thru, and negativity about his dogs. but that man has a heart of gold for those who are close to him and his passion for the dogs. No one knows unless they experience it what pain does, how ornery it makes you how much you do about anything for relief, including drugs and alcohol. and sometimes even turn mean on those you love. I believe Lance Mackey is one of the bravest , and whole hearted guys around. amen and kudos to you :)

You did a FANTASTIC job with the videos of this race. I've long loved the Iditarod, (it's Jack London's fault), but never got to see the humanitarian part of it. Between your videos, and Dude Like Hella, it was a wonderful experience for those of us who don't live up there. Also, thank you so much for letting him tell his story uninterrupted. I wish reporters in the lower 48 would learn that it's much preferred. Thank you, so much, for sharing with us.

Not condoning leaving the dogs, but their priority is the musher first. The dogs can survive those temps, and stayed because their guy was there.
