ok I know no one asked me but the reason they are out of sync on their extended free leg twizzles (the 1st set) is because he spots the the first two rotations pretty heavily and she doesn't spot at all. Thats why he can hold his free leg higher than hers (cuz turning his head makes it easier to keep his leg up with a cross check). Just an observation.
I think this is a good program from them. I'm seeing more performance quality from Anthony. Christina's skating skills continue to improve and probably the best of any skater at this competition. Lots of change of holds, difficult holds, building speed more efficiently than any team here. Oh, the curve lift is gorgeous.
Has an ice dance team done Carmen before? I automatically think of Calgary 1988 and Debi Thomas and Katarina Witt. This actually seemed fresh and innovative to me, which I wasn't expecting when I heard what they were skating to!
Yes people have done Carmen but I don’t think anybody’s done Karmin like this. Actually dancing it. And yeah I do recognize the costumes but I love that they went back to the color palette from the Carmen Anaya special in about 89 or 90 after the Olympics that starred Bryan Boitano Katharina vet and Brian Orser. And yes their coach did skate to this with his partner, but it’s hard to make something so memorable different and I think they do a good job of it. They did this by a few new lifts and certain cuts the music that everybody’s used but not in the same order. If they can just work on the characters a little more. It could be massively successful. And by the way this isn’t the first time they skated to some thing familiar. A few years ago they did summertime which his parents used as a professional exhibition in 1996 so just saying maybe they were Paying homage to their coach this year just like they paid homage to his parents a few years back. There’s nothing wrong with that unless that’s where they intend to stay. I’ve always liked the good throwback and this is a good throwback in a good way.
The Carmen special I am referring to was called Karmin on ice. It’s on TH-cam if you wanna come look it up. For at least part of that Katerina Witt is in yellow.
Many dance teams have skated to Carmen in the past. There's a reason Carmen is considered one of the warhorses in figure skating. The two dance teams that immediately come to my mind are Navka & Kostomarov in 2006 and Krylova & Ovisiannikov. Dick Button had this to say while commenting during Krylova & Ovi's performance to Carmen: (paraphrasing) Her facial expression will reach to the 70th row of the arena. Unfortunately, there are only 30 rows here. 😂
Wow- this was my favorite freedance! If Madison HUbbell did this it is fantastic! All the other teams look the same as last year, same lifts, same transitions etc but this looks inspired and fresh. Who did the choreography? Scott or Madison? Dont say both because it's always ONE Coahes main work. Great job and beautifully skated. I cant wait until later in the season when Christina can feel more comfortable finishing things and letting loose! Awesome!
I agree! The program is interesting and new for them so it does take her a while to get confident with the programs. I love seeing Anthony this confident!!
I disagree. It looked sloppy and I didn’t feel any connection to the music or each other. . Zingas/Kolesnik were way more interesting and deserved higher scores.
It's a good program but they both need to be more intense.
And much better extensions. And He needs to lose some weight. And music needs to end on a tonic chord. Awful!!

I actually love technical analysis because I don't have a skating background, and I'm sure others agree!
I like this program but they need more synchronicity in their twizzles. WOuld like to see them perfect this routine more.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (their current coach) did! 2013 worlds is one of their best skates to that even with the mistakes.
