Ah, the old Shake Your Fishing Rod At Gitbags strategy! That made me chuckle. HG may well add in the waved fishing rod as a ship call down mechanic, which would be ace!
You can clearly see that first ship start to land before you even got to the wave in the quick menu. That being the only "positive" result I'd say this does not work but it would be cool if it did.
I used to wave at train drivers , they didn’t stop either 😂 😂. Something else to check out , A David Attenborough wannabe has done a whole series on Life in Euclid and I think he,s done a good job, worth a look.
I believe that this is a living simulation that Sean and his team have created , this system is becoming way more then we understand currently and in saying that and you reading this you start to understand
I have npc ships landing near me almost every time I am walking around on foot and I never wave at them. I am inclined to believe it is a random thing that has nothing to do with waving at them, however I do agree it would be a cool game mechanic!
They land near bases. I have one base I frequent a lot for nanite farming, egg harvesting, resources being mined, etc and now and then an NPC lands nearby to sell his goods.
I'd even go as far to say that they should replace the random landings with, once you hear the ships, wave, and that would cause one of them to land. I've also always wanted a way to place an order from your freighter, like through the GTT, to where, say, within 60 seconds, a vendor arrived in the hanger with your order.
I don't know about consoles, but on PC you can bind quick menu buttons to hotkeys, so you can just press a single button to instantly wave instead of having to mess around with the quickmenu. Also woah what was your character doing with his head at 6:28 ? I've never seen that movement before. Edit: Instead of signaling to ships on planets, I'd much rather have the ability to call other ships in space. It feels very unfair how everyone can call you but you can't call them.
I've done a lot of no starter ship challenges so I've spent hours running across planets hoping one of these guys would land. I always watch them fly overhead to see where they are going and I sometimes wave that them as they go. They rarely land. I don't think it's a thing but I'm hoping I'm wrong about it.
X modules traders land by them selfs often after u set foot on planet. So its hard to say if its legit mechanic. Would be nice if we could send txt messages to other players from friend list by using communication tower or directly to the player when in ship. simliar like we recive calls during doing main story.
There's one way to get their Attention 100%, Fire ur mining beam at them lol they won't land, but to mess with u, they'll Fire at you, doing no damage lol
I shot a ship from the ground recently with my multi-tool, and it turned and attacked me. I don't know if they do this every time, but they have to be within range of the tool.
@CaptainSteveVPT most welcome, always live finding hidden mechanics. And if this is really only a coincidence, I would love to see it become a real feature!
@Captain Steve Question "Do certain planets have a particular sporn for Sentinel ship's, as in colours and types?" I'm new too NMS but have learnt the way intended!
imho it doesn't work and was just a complete fluke if it seemed to work. I tried for an hour last night and I had not one single time. I did have one land behind me while I was afk so my only success was obviously not of anything I did. I tried with my OG save of 1200 hours as well as a 250 hour save and I tried a new on both normal and a custom with skipped tutorials. I do agree, this should totally be a thing.
Well the attempts you have shown you were more off to the side of their flight path instead of right under and the person in the vid waved right in front of and before the ship went over head of them. Thats just my observation. I will have to try for myself and see.
A flare gun or an emergency broadcast device would be a way to do it. Replace the trade rocket with a signal flare, cus who uses the trade rocket? 😂 By the time in the game you can have it, you don't need it anymore. Side discussion: give us the trade rocket earlier, in the first 20 hours of the game. Make it an object that can only be used once then you gotta craft or buy another one. Cus its only use is "oh jeez my inventory is full." Anyplace you can spend the money, you can sell the goods so its not really all that useful.
i think ya got click baited Captain of the Steves that guy hd the name tags turned off and had a friend timed and land right by him and using a mod made him look like he had modules for sale or had a bunch he already purchased to trade like when you n chums traded eggs year or two ago, and that should have landed right by you and not a long distance away, compared to that reddit post the ship landed right by the player and not a long away like what happened to you captain, ive seen a lot of click bait videos from friends like Prestonplayz his co-worker Chase would be so crafty at making perfect clickbait videos of Minecraft and some other games also, you got CLICK BAITED.

I tried it over a dozen times and it happened only once and I'm 100% convinced it's a random fluke thing
If you make 5 landings pads, you will get all the NPC Buds you ever wanted!

I did videos like that once.. called them Fauna Photography... search "captain steve fauna photography"
think the jury is still out on waving but will give it a try
I was attacked from the air multiple times when walking around a small moon. Turns out you are never safe from pirates
I get attacked when fishing off my skiff. Guess the department of fisheries takes catch size seriously.
We need a piece of tech to add to the suit. The Electronic Thumb from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
I believe that this is a living simulation that Sean and his team have created , this system is becoming way more then we understand currently and in saying that and you reading this you start to understand
If you start shooting them in your mech they start firing back. If you get out of the mech they continue to shoot at it!
Yes, Hello Games...please add this to game!
You can assign a shortcut key to do the wave gesture which would be much faster.
We need a thumb ring, like in Hitchhikers Guide
What they also need to do is increase the build limit and how many bases load up in a planet.
That would literally require a new game engine, its not like their using UE5

I'm thinking that it might not work at night, since you probably can't be seen when it's dark.

Welp i was really hopping for a more definitive and repeatable result...thanks for looking into it cap
No probs buddy... thanks for tagging me in.

Fairly random really chap...
Its still winter man... put some clothes on😅
I think when inventory full and you are near any building they land nearby too.

I would stop for you. But, I'm not a Git Bag. 🤣
@@GeorgeHadley-pv2tq hahahaha...
Not sure if the waving works, but I see landed pilots pretty refularly, including ones that sell the after-market upgrades.
So is Hello Games saying, "It took them this long to find this?"😊 (Or just a fluke....)
Well the attempts you have shown you were more off to the side of their flight path instead of right under and the person in the vid waved right in front of and before the ship went over head of them. Thats just my observation. I will have to try for myself and see.
I have shot at passing ships, and they have turned around and lit me up before.
Never heard such a thing, but would be cool if real 👍

@@gwoody4003 Flare Gun... that's a great idea.
I'm on a paradise moon and it seems like all of them have x modules
Try 50 waves and 50 no waves see what you get.
...Would rather not...lol
I many a time have traders land at my bases. Land on my just built landing pad many times.
*flare gun DLC
🤣It works for me very closed to a trading depot.
Don't think works just that person was trolling when they did that video. You have ships randomly land all the time but you cannot hail them.

Interesting 🤔
Do the no gesture in water
Hmm 🤔 how about that
Key bind it
yeah I have all my fav emotes on shortcut ;)
